Hoyer: ‘Some Validity’ That $600 Unemployment Benefit Disincentivizes Work – ‘It’s Not 600 or Bust’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “New Day,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) stated that there is “some validity” to arguments that the $600 unemployment benefit disincentivizes people from returning to work and stated that Democrats do not have a position of “600 or bust” on the unemployment benefit.

Host John Berman asked, “One of the things that Republicans — some Republicans say is that $600 serves as a disincentive to go back to work. It is more in some cases than they say that people were making at the beginning. So, what do you say to that?”

It is hush money

Right?

Let the communist government (BOTH Parties) debase the fiat currency and hand it out to the population so they will go along with . . . The new communist society.

It is sickening and un-American

Our values are long gone. So many people are sitting home getting paid more then alot of jobs offer. I don't blame them. Why would you go to work, work more hours and bring home less money. Again long gone are values. We have lost all respect for the USA. Every place I know is hiring. Hotels, restaurants, bars, take out, fast food, groceries, salons....I can go on and on. Why work if you can sit home. This is why socialism doesn't work. Get rid of welfare. I bet those jobs will fill up so fast. And we can work on learning to respect each other. Nothing in life should be free. Or keep paying people to sit home. These people will continue to vote in the person that gives them free goodies. And will never understand a person that feeds you can starve you. It's all a social experiment. Plus, if we do away with welfare, who will they use to burn down and protest? It is all part of the plan right? Or not.

The new communist society? The president is Republican and Congress have been a Republican majority for how many years? You're right, it is un-American to give a damn about the working class.

Perhaps they don't want to go back to a service job in which they risk their health and the health of their families for a country that can't be bothered to wear a damn mask for 10 minutes.

I have been waiting since May for Ocean City to call me back to work but they continue to force me to take the money Maryland gives me no matter how much it is.

People are staying away from jobs that have little to no human contact. Nonsensical.

@611 Bullshit. Ocean City has so many hiring signs, you can't walk a block without hitting another. I've worked in Salisbury since the coronavirus and even quit one job because it sucked and got another. If you aren't working you're a lazy bum. Plain and simple. And no I don't care if you have a doctorate and can't find your preferred work. Get off your lazy ass and earn your keep. Sooner or later the free money will end and the rush of everyone to get a job will have you struggling to get one. There won't be a final bailout in that timeframe and many of you are going to be homeless.
