Time Running Short For Wicomico County To Hire Attorney

SALISBURY – County officials say the clock is ticking to select a new county attorney.

The Wicomico County Council says an extension that allows for Paul Wilber to serve as acting county attorney will expire on Nov. 4.

But when asked for an update on the search process for a new attorney last week, County Executive Bob Culver said he declined to speak on the matter until Wicomico County Purchasing Agent Nicholas Rice could share his opinions on the procurement process and the reasoning for recommending Wilber’s law firm – Webb, Cornbrooks, Wilber, Vorhis, Douse, Leslie & Mathers, LLP – to continue providing legal services.

“I think you all need to know what his feelings are on that,” he said.

In May, the council voted 6-1, with Councilman Bill McCain opposed, to fire County Attorney Paul Wilber effective July 31.

I think we have a right to know why he was fired and why the council will not let anyone else in the firm represent the county. I would also like to know why the county council can have their own attorney and the executive branch can not? How is the legislative branch allowed to determine personnel matters?

Until there's a chargeable crime, it will remain a closed personnel matter.

This is what happens when elected officials are corrupt. So much for transparency. Don't they work for us??

Wilber was replaced by the city and the mistakes he made were costly...start with the ridiculously low liability for the WWTP contractor. It was also on his watch that any information requested by the public and sometimes even sitting council members became a matter of a FOIA request and legal consultations and reviews. Bob, I support you, but must say it’s lunacy to stay the course with Wilber. How about Robert Taylor, Steve Cox or others with strong municipal experience and a track record for fair billing and dedication to public trust and accountability?

They should pay out of their OWN pockets. This would keep everyone more honest

"In early August, the executive recommended the council appoint Wilber as the county’s attorney, nearly three months after the council voted to remove him from the same position."

What a dumb move by the county executive. I have never heard of resubmitting a name of a department head that was just fire. LMAO

You might want to read the Charter. Everything you want to know is in it. It is on the internet for your disposal.

Bingo!! I don't think Bob has been paying attention to the corruption that Paul Wilber was involved in during the Barrie Tilghman administration.

In 2006 while employed by the city taxpayers, Paul Wilber and Barrie Tilghman worked a deal out where NOTHING can be traced such as submitting bills to be paid that were not itemized! I personally believe this is illegal.

Cannon wants his man in that position, another CROOK. That way him and his cronies will have their way with no resistance.

Bob is willing for the County to pay for his inefficient and ineffective loyalist.

And I am otherwise a strong supporter of Bob. But he has got this one very wrong

What mistakes?? Again. Another NO EXAMPLE blow hard. Lawyers give advice. It's up to the politicians to take it or not. The people you mentioned couldn't hold PAUL WILBUR JOCKSTRAP. FACT.

You are sooo stupid. Your blaming Wilbur when it was the insurance company had the cap. Moron. Not too mention the dumbass JOHN JACOBS who was the driving force for this so called state of the art WWTP which that dufuss NEVER HAD OPERATIONAL. He's probably a relation of yours.

What ever you say JOHN JACOBS. STILL throwing others under the bus for your mistakes. No wonder nobody trust's you or work with you in VDOT.

The People voted for an Executive form of County Government but the County Council refuses to accept what the people wanted. They have spent every minute trying to take back Executive powers with their endless amendments to reduce this power in each election. Kind of reminds you of what the Democrats are doing in Russia Gate and Ukraine Gate doesn't it?

What a sad person you must be 3:43!! Paul Wilbur spent his entire career as a loyal public servant. He's done an exceptional job dealing with all the backstabbing corrupt city elite. We all know who they are. Not to mention having to listen to lies and rumors from people like you. I know Paul Wilbur. I don't know you. Your first impression reveals a lonely, vile, and hateful person. You must be one of the corrupt elite from the county that Paul Wilbur must have squashed so time ago. A man with integrity against you. A corrupt lurking person in the shadows.
