British officials create 41-mile detour for 65-foot-long road closure

Talk about taking the long way home.

Motorists in southwest England will need to pay special attention when driving through Dorset County next week, where officials are putting a 41-mile detour around a 65-foot stretch of construction work.

The diversion will take drivers along several roads and into another county before heading back into Dorset County. Local residents have blasted the council's decision.

"It's just crazy and there doesn't seem to be any logic to it," said Heather Chapman, who runs a camping business near the closure.

Is that England or repairs, roundabout construction, and armadillos to seduce bikers in Salisbury?

Yes,the dam repairs - or lack thereof- are similar. Any progress?

6:13--
I actually saw some workers about a month ago, although working wasn't an accurate description. I know someone who lives beside it, says no one was out there all summer. Not quite the story we're being fed, huh?

I see they FINALLY put some new asphalt on Rt 13 in front of Checkers, I wonder when they will repair the sidewalks? 10 things started and nothing finished. My car and sanity has taken a hit everyday when I have to drive through this mess.

Really 12:28 - and now that the roundabout is started at the other end of Carroll Street, we almost don't have another route to take. It'll just be that much more congested and hard to get around on 13. Could be worse, I guess - we could live in Kent County

Sounds like da bury.

I'm not a resident of Salisbury, but do go there quite often. Please elect Wayne King for the next mayor. Hopefully some repairs (bike lane eliminations) can be made on the city streets before some spandex bicycler is struck and killed by a driver trying to make sense of all the unnecessary confusing bike lanes painted everywhere, and getting worse. I don't ride a bicycle in town, but sure would hate hitting one because of all the confusing lines. It would be devastating to any driver and effect them for the rest of their lives, not to mention the deceased and family members. These bike lanes are an accident waiting to happen.
