A Viewer Writes...... Bennett Middle School 10-9-19

A substitute teacher was hit in the head by a thrown apple in the hallway, by an angry student. She was taken to the hospital by the Fruitland ambulance at 8:15 this morning, it hit her so hard the apple was all over the floor. I want to remain anonymous, but want the community to know what teachers and staff go through with the kids, everyday!

My niece, who is a teacher was headbutted by a student which resulted in a concussion....very sad that this profession is so dangerous and the teachers are defenseless.

Wow! And I guarantee they were given a special treat for listening and getting themselves together. Or the teacher has the child put right back in the class like they are the monster. This is what is happening daily in every school. Teachers have no say. Sad that once an appreciated career has become what is has. The county wonders why there is a substitute shortage...

I wish people would get facts straight. It was Brnnett Middle School boy Fruitland

It was Bennett middle not fruitland. But you had all the facts before blasting on social media.

How was the teacher hit and transported at 815? The school doesn't open until 8:45am?

They will turn the brat over to the custody of his/her parent, which is the custody they were under when they did this despicable act. The parents don't give a fat rat's a$$ , which is why the brats are like they are. No discipline at home. They are taught to have NO respect for anyone or anything.

I'd like to know why children on house arrest, wearing ankle monitors are allowed in school. Why schools don't go on lockdown when a gun has been reported on a student. And why the school board thinks it's ok for teachers to put their lives at risk for these kids and they have no protection themselves.

Kid should be expelled and charged with a crime.

Give discipline back to the teachers, kick the rotten apples out!

Anonymous said...

Wicomico Board of Ed needs to DO something about these bad kids instead of turning their heads. And you wonder why so many teachers are leaving. Discipline the kids!!!!!!!

The classroom has become a war zone.I guess now the liberal administration will give this student a trophy for having a great aim.It is time to bring back the paddle and do it in public view of the students.

So, the kid hits a teacher with an apple. The injury requires an emergency transport to the hospital. How do you apply the WCBOE Code of Conduct rule (see below)? And what does "safely and appropriately handled through school procedures" mean?
The county is going to start losing teachers in mass because of the lack of discipline and the unwillingness of leadership to deal with the problem.

"The School Resource Officer (SRO) or other appropriate law enforcement agency will only be contacted in the event of substantial harm or threat of substantial harm to the physical safety of students, staff or other persons that cannot be safely and appropriately handled through school procedures or to respond to criminal conduct of persons other than students. Actions taken by law enforcement will be considered to be separate and apart from any disciplinary actions taken by the school."

This makes me so mad if I ever found out my child disrespected someone (anyone) It would not b good. Just sad hope the teacher is ok.

Put all the bad apples in one school and allow corporal punishment.

An apple a day keeps the teacher away.

Class doesn’t start until 9:15 & kids aren’t let in until 8:45. What kids are there at 8:15??

Anonymous said...

Bennett Midddle opens doors at 7:45 to students. Class begins at 8:15

Anonymous said...

They don't want to. The bad kids will stay in public school, the good kids parents will be forced to pay for private school and the $avings from the huge drop in enrollment will go directly into the pockets of politicians and their friends.

Same reason that the 2 minors who fled the scene of a murder and hid a weapons over the weekend were back in school Monday. The schools are not allowed to suspend or expel, and the severe behavior issues of a few dominate all of the resources that are available.

There are two sides to every story and I am sure there is video of what REALLY happened. I wonder if the "Viewer" actually witnessed the occurrence??? Just because a few bad parents don't hold their children responsible doesn't mean this child will have no consequences at school or home. Don't be so quick to judge before knowing all the facts!

a apple a day keeps the doctor away well i guess not

Teacher's can blame only themselves. They watch for year's how the teacher's union and school board passed all those unsafe procedures. They didn't care. They kept getting money. Now the zoo animals are turning on them. What did you think was going to happen?? You allowed unqualified teacher's and criminals run rampant. Nobody held accountable for anything. But hey. You still got the raises. KARMA!!

Hey special ed ... Bonnie Walston is this your lovely student. Donna and you all need to lay your head down and retire. Time to bring in law and order in to wcboe.

I taught in Wicomico County for 8 years and left due to the lack of support from admin. A student in my class tried to turn in field trip money the day of our trip, after having a month and a half to turn it in, and I told him no. He became so mad that he told me he was going to stab me in my pregnant stomach and kill my baby. He threw chairs at me, cussed, and stormed out the room looking for a knife. He was only taken out of my room after a few days because I requested a threat assessment where they determined he was indeed a threat to my safety. But he wasnt punished bc he refused to go to ISS (which they only assigned him a half day of bc who really cares about a student who threatened to murder me and my baby right?) and nobody did anything. Admin also ignored my request to move him out of my group during a back to school night the week after the knife incident so I was left in the same room with him that night. His mother complained that I was going to deny him the right to go on the field trip and they actually let him go anyway. My teammate's classroom was destroyed by a student and my teammate had to clean it up instead of the student. A student walked out of my coteacher's classroom after tearing things off her wall on a daily basis and nothing was done. Another student roamed the halls, ran in classrooms and spit on teacher desks, and PEED IN THE HALLWAY and since the mother threatened to sue if anyone touched her son all admin did was follow him around all day . ADMINISTRATION WAS USELESS!! My new school in a different state has a contract both parents and students must sign and students are booted from the school if they do not behave. I was about to quit teaching and am so thankful I gave it one more shot somewhere new. They have got to bring back consequences and demanding respect. Wicomico county is a joke.

The original story said Fruitland Intermediate. That’s what I was commenting on.

No parents should be charged with a crime.

Anonymous said...

No transparency and no accountability. Yet year after year they request and get more money.

Wicomico County needs to change. Our teachers are in danger every single day. People think it’s just high school... it’s elementary school. Kids throw chairs, hit teachers, spit on them, threaten, kick, etc. teachers have been to the hospital and the kid barely gets a slap on the wrist. Teachers are scared to even report or talk about these kind of things in fear of getting in trouble or written up so it gets brushed under the rug so easily.

Yes I do pay to send my child to private school and ITS THE BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT !!!
Private school will not put up with bad behavior. They will kick them out to go to public school.
I will say it’s different types of kids at private school because they are raised with values, morals and respect. The kids are safe, receive an excellent education, and God is allowed in school.
More parents are sending their kids to private school or home schooling. They have had enough of the worthless public school system with these unruly kids.

Northwest Woodsman: We all know who makes up the demographic that have no respect for teachers, police, or the community. I went to Snow Hill High School when segregation was in effect and there were never any issues of violence or lack of respect. I don’t even recall a fight or scuffle during my whole school experience and the only drugs were nicotine or alcohol.

If it was me I'd be pressing charges against the student and the parents. There are rumors that the board of education persuades teachers not to press charges or convinces them it won't do any good. Follow the money I guess. The truth is until the good people in the schools, teachers, students and families start fight8back than all of the evilness in the schools will continue to thrive. Good must prevail over evil in a civilized society.

The education system went to hell in 1964 and we all know why. There is no advantage to sugar coating the situation any longer as it is only going to get worse.
JUST LOOK AT BALTIMORE AND WHO IS RUNNING "OR SHOULD I SAY RUINED " THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.It ain't rocket science.!!!
A high school diploma today isn't worth a bucket of p--s anymore. It is no more now than a participation trophy-sad but true

what raise? If you think teachers have any say you clearly have no clue.

Anonymous said...

7:53 PM can you give just one example? Just one or are you another one just running their mouth?

Anonymous said...

Parents of Wicomico county students need to protest by picking a day to keep their kids at home to get the BOE's attention.

Anonymous said...

Who cares what school it was in. It is a school....period! Ridiculous

Anonymous said...

Two sides doesnt matter when it comes to a child hurting an adult. Get a grip

Anonymous said...

8:28 I can’t speak for 7:53 but I can tell you I put 2 kids through Wicomico County school system and I have personally seen everything 7:53 said over the course of 18+ years. From intermediate all the way to high school. Do you have children in the public school system or are you just running your mouth?

Anonymous said...

Wow sorry this happened to you, but it’s so true. I’m in the process of finding a better district as well. So glad to hear there are some districts that take this crap seriously!!! Let the higher ups be threatened or beaten up and I bet they’d do something then. Sad but a lot of teaches are in the process of either leaving or changing careers.

Anonymous said...

That’s because kids know they get no repercussions at home or at school. What do you expect when they watch adult liberals throwing tantrums for three years? What do you really expect?

Anonymous said...

9:11 There’s a lot of truth to that.

Anonymous said...

Wrong. The doors open at 7:45 and instruction begins at 8:15
