The Trump administration on Monday moved to end asylum protections for most Central American migrants in a major escalation of the president's battle to tamp down the number of people crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to a new rule published in the Federal Register, asylum seekers who pass through another country first will be ineligible for asylum at the U.S. southern border. The rule, expected to go into effect on Tuesday, also applies to children who have crossed the border alone. The new rule will affect asylum seekers coming through Mexico from countries like Guatemala and El Salvador.
There are some exceptions: If someone has been trafficked, if the country the migrant passed through did not sign one of the major international treaties that govern how refugees are managed (though most Western countries have signed them) or if an asylum-seeker sought protection in a country but was denied, then a migrant could still apply for U.S. asylum.

Interesting concept. A little filtering is a good thing.
So lets see. Your own state department has confirmed these people are indeed fleeing from dire straights. Your own State Department has already confirmed that major swaths of the next country over (Mexico) are dangerous to travel to. So yeah, lets make things even more complicated by another dumb dumb policy move.
It's not that hard Congress and POTUS: cut the red tape to make it much easier for folks to be screened and unleash the power of the private sector to connect these people with available jobs! Crisis over.
Sorry 11:29. Those who opt to jump the border illegally should never be allowed in this country, ever. Their dire straights is not fleeing anything but poverty and you want to give them jobs that should be for AMERICANS. If they come in legally then the American thing to do is let them in
1129, being poor is not a reason for asylum. Wanting a better life for your family is not a reason for asylum. They need to come here the legal way or stay in their own countries. We have enough poor and people in dire straights to take care of. Look around.
11:29--
How do you not see that allowing a huge glut of people in only hurts American workers?
We've heard that same bogus argumemt throughout US history
Something tells me none of you habe done your homework on asylum law, looked at the official reports from the State Department or any other agency, or actually have a sense of the history of immigration the the US. Lets keep it at the presemt for a moment. We have record unemployment and as Trump has stated, jobs are booming. So are you saying we should not look for more efficient ways for workers to come in and fill these jobs?
Jobs for Americans is what you mean. Correct!
Bogus - not really. Are you prepared to take these people in your own home. Are you prepared to give your money (taxes) to support these people. Maybe you have it to easy and can't see the Forrest for the trees.
I am saying. Come in the legal way. Just like those you applied and showed an interest in making America their home by working not taking free hand outs. Dems just want votes. Let's do something about the homeless instead.
If you think "handouts" are the immigration driver, you are a fool. Stop lostening to Limbaugh and go read some real analysis on the issue. Hell, I could have swore pre-Trump you were saying these people were here to take your jobs. Which is it??? LOL
Here’s the big question. If they want to come here why don’t they just go through a point of entry. You know the legal way. Instead they’d rather jump across illegally in the dead of night where they won’t be seen. Why? Probably because they don’t have the best intentions for this country and it’s citizens. So for you bleeding hearts aka 12:08 I suggest you stand at the border and take everyone of them into your own home. You guys like to gloss over the illegal part. But are quick to yell racist when the wall is mentioned. Give me a break. Please explain to me why you would rather give handouts to illegal immigrants when our own citizens are struggling? You know the homeless, the elderly who can’t afford their meds, our vets who aren’t getting the help they need. There are over 50,000 vets that are homeless. I don’t see you crying about them. Gtfoh with your fake outrage. Stop parroting what the msm tells you and use your brain.
