After a likely Senate confirmation of President Donald Trump’s nomination, Lt. Gen. David H. Berger, 59, would take over command of the Marines from the current commandant, Gen. Robert Neller, in the summer. He also would be promoted to general.
Born and raised in Woodbine, Maryland – a rural town in between Frederick and Baltimore – the three-star general attended Tulane University in Louisiana and graduated with an engineering degree in 1981. While there, he played on the college’s lacrosse team, according to a yearbook.
After graduation, Berger was commissioned in the Marine Corps as an infantry officer. He served as a company commander in a reconnaissance battalion of the 2nd Marine Division during the first Gulf War.

I'm sorry but the information is erroneous. Jefferson fields was a native eastern shoreman who was a Lieutenant General and served in Vietnam. Upon his return he was appointed Commanding General of the Marines Development and Education Command. He was awarded two Navy Distinguished Service medals.
Lewis J. Fields was the Commanding General of all Marine forces in any hostile theater encountered.
Getting back to the Commandants' position, he is strictly an administrator and holds no authority over the delegation of duties of deployment during engagement of hostiles in any theater of battle.
Traditionally he is appointed a four star general of the corps, this is because he serves with the Joint Chiefs and part of their respective counsel. He is the 'Top Knot' appointed by the President for a four year term of office and must be confirmed by the Senate renewable 'once'. He is furthermore under the scrutiny of the Secretary of the Navy as the Marine operations and administration.
Fields was born in Delmar, Del. and went to High School in Crisfield, Md. where his family resided.
Surely he deserves some credit for an 'Eastern Shoreman's accomplishments for he was a 'working man'.
If they wanted a Maryland native why not pick Lt. Col. Tim Corbin from Pocomoke City? He was Marine One pilot for Bill Clinton and had to put up with tons of bullshit from Hillary. It was hazardous duty because he was always dodging flying lamps and dishes while having to smile and say, "Yes Ma'am. Whatever you say, Ma'am."
I understand Corbin earned three Purple Hearts on just one trip from Andrews to Camp David and had seven pieces of china removed from his head and neck.
