Pocomoke City Police Seize 843 Cartons of Cigarettes
On 10-31-2018 Pocomoke City Police were conducting a traffic stop at Route 13 and Stockton Road when a vehicle failed to move over. Pocomoke Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, a 2017 Volkswagon with NY plates. Upon making contact with the driver police noticed a large blanket covering a large box in the cargo area with several cartons of cigarettes in plain view. After further investigation it was discovered the occupant of the rental vehicle was carrying 847 cartons of cigarettes from Virginia into Maryland. Pocomoke City Police, assisted by the State of MD Comptrollers Office determined the cigarettes had a retail value of $54,373.50 with a tax loss to the State of Maryland in the amount of $16,860.00. Arrested was Gamil Ali Aljahmi, age 23 of Bronx, New York. He was charged with a felony count of transporting unstamped cigarettes and cigarette possession unstamped over 30. He was held at the Worcester County Detention Center on $10,000 unsecured personal bond.

He was taking them to new York where the cost of a PACK is $10 twice the cost in VA
Another jihadi that laughs at our laws.
Another Muslim smuggling cigarettes to support terrorism. So glad law enforcement is addressing this under Trump!
Unfortunately, it is rampant because enforcement was lax under previous administration.
Once again, Maryland officials are taking credit for . recovering non-MD tax revenue) loses. Why, is NY paying us for this? Maybe they are not. MD crooks, they are VA crooks, whose crooks are they?
If he wasn't going to sell them in Maryland, how can a loss of Maryland tax be considered? Did he have a Maryland address? A Maryland driver's license?
It seems obvious that this guy was on his way to NY, where cigarettes sell for over $11.00 per pack, over half of that in NY taxes.
More bullshit from the great state of California, I mean Maryland.
LE should stop posing with the evidence of tobacco "smuggling". The crime is with the state in which they're sold, not the one through which they're transported (on Federal highways.)
BATF should be on this, not states.
Seems like this ethnic minority has this type of smuggling as a monopoly.
Bought in Virginia- sold in New York, absolutely no tax loss in Maryland. How stupid do they think we are.
No Maryland revenue was lost. This guy looks a lot older than 23. I wonder if he is on a work visa.
Thank you Pocomoke PD for trying to get that POS illegal alien off the road. But Seriously, only $10,000 bond? WTF!!

So you are saying that ICE should be arresting illegal aliens and not local police?? I see how you are Mr. Liberal Sanctuary City.

Any large sums of untaxed cigs are not allowed to be transported on Maryland highways. This law has been on the books for over 40 years that I am aware of. What part of this don't you Socialists understand? You got an illegal alien off the street and you think this is wrong? Well maybe you should move to the middle east you freaking traitor.
its an ATF issue not mayberry PD. Md is stupid enough to impose high taxes on cigs... cant fix stupid(md)
Looks like to me a tax loss for Virginia, not Maryland
When will you slower lower realize and understand that EVERY terrorist threat that this country faces started with your tax money? America has funded BOTH sides of its war on terror for 30 plus years
How exactly when they were purchased in Virginia?
7:44 how can it be a tax loss to Virginia. If they were bought in Virginia they would have had a Virginia tax stamp. About 50 years ago I remodeled a liquor store in wash DC and there was a guy that came in there every week and loaded a station wagon with cigarettes that he sold in NY. At that time Wash DC had a very low cigarette tax. The liquor store owner emphasized to me he wasn't doing any thing illegal just selling cigarettes the taxes were paid on.
Why don't they start locking up the stores/distributors that sold these cartons these smugglers? Certainly the cartons are all traceable, and the store had to know what was going on.
7:44 how can it be a tax loss to Virginia? If they were bought in Virginia they would have had a Virginia tax stamp. The Virginia taxes would have already been paid by the cigarette manufacturer. Years ago I was a merchant seaman and we got cigarettes free of all taxes, about 16 cents a pack. They were purchased thru an agent and to stayed locked up by the captain until we were in international waters.
The state tax is paid by the wholesaler. The federal tax is paid at the manufacturer level. The question is where are these crooks buying the VA cigarettes. Many manufacturers impose a carton sale limit on retailers in order for them to receive any merchandising or promotional offers. All law enforcement needs to do is check wholesale deliveries to retail. It's pretty simple.
Who cares? Only taxes being about black markets! No one is stopping all the MD people buying furniture in DE! No is stopping someone who buys TVs cheap in DE and resells online in MD! Go to the BJs and Lowe’s in Millsboro....you will see a lot of MD tags, avoiding taxes. The state of MD as the going to get the tax revenue to begin with! They were avoiding,DE, MD, NJ, Ny, PA taxes. Have a flat excise tax on all tobacco products and you take the crime out of it. Taxes like this only risk the lives of officers, keep lawyers in business, tie up the court systems, and the list goes on.

You make no sense.
The crime of smuggling is being committed when they drive within Maryland's borders. Wherever they are caught is where they are arrested.
Good Job Police! We hurt this foreign criminal in the wallet and that means less money sent overseas to our enemies.
Crime of the century SMH.
I buy clothing, furniture, accessories - many things for my home - in Delaware because of the tax break.
Wealthy mid-Atlantic people always buy their yachts and register them in Delaware for the exact same reason.
I'm on a fixed income (retired) and a smoker (wish I wasn't, but I am), and for some reason I'm breaking some law by going to DE or VA to save 40 to 50% on my cigarette purchases.
It make no sense to me.
Thank God for Virginia Smokes!! Because a lot of cops would have absolutely nothing to do but jack each other off😂
But not 800 illegal aliens😡
We used to be free
