Type of Incident: Motor Vehicle Collision/Impaired Driver
Date and Time: 12/12/17 at 1750hrs
Location: S/B 113 at Newark Road, Newark, Worcester County, MD
Vehicles: Veh#1 2000 International 8 wheel Oil Tanker (empty-no load)
Accused: Suspect (At Fault)/ Driver Vehicle #1: Joseph Sweeney 55 yoa New Jersey
Narrative: On 12/12/2017 at approximately 1750 hours, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Berlin Barracks responded to a report of an oil tanker partially in the roadway and stuck in a ditch in the area of S/B 113 at Newark Rd.
Upon Troopers arrival, the above operator was contacted & through investigation the Troopers discovered that the driver was impaired by an alcoholic beverage. It was also learned that the driver was travelling N/B on 113 when he crossed the center median and struck the ditch on the S/B side of 113 and Newark Rd. Further filed tests were conducted and the driver was subsequently arrested for DWI and submitted to a breath test resulting in a BAC of .18.
There were no injuries and the vehicle was drivable.
Disposition: DWI, DUI and related traffic citations issued- released on personal recognizance
