When I was a kid I loved camping but we didn't have those fancy tents they have now. Myself and another kid built a lean to and had a fire in front of it,we slept there quite a few nights when the weather was way below freezing it worried my mother to death. Those are memories an old man like me really cherish.
We too had the luxury of having wooded acreage that my brothers and I would build lean to structures for overnights. There is nothing like the great outdoors and alas too many call it home.
People that have all the gear to camp, are the true survivalists. When natural disasters strike, they will not have to run to a shelter for the masses. Just load up the car, and head to high ground. But don't forget the guns!
1113, therein could be the problem - having to drive for hours for higher ground.
From where I stand, can't go north to Delaware, can't go south (Pocomoke, VA Beach), nothing but water east and who the hell wants to go west over that darn bridge to crazy-ville!!!!
Guess I'm real screwed with my tent and sleepin bag!
Although there is much more low ground than high ground on the Eastern Shore, there is still plenty of high ground that has never been underwater, ever, here on the shore. High ground is all around us, if you look for it. I live on a small hill in a development that has experienced two 500 year floods in the last 30 years, and the water has never gotten close to my house on either occasion, even though I live right next to a flood zone.

Amazing. 80% of the homeless in America are white.
