WBOC Still Won't Call It A Tornado 8-8-17

That being said, let's take a poll on this matter then.

Do you believe Salisbury experienced a tornado after all the evidence we provided yesterday?

YES, I saw the video.

I couldn't believe my eyes/ears when WBOC went to Wicomico Emergency Services and interviewed them. How many meteorologists does WBOC have on staff? It was as if they were in major damage control trying to use someone else to explain why they all, (WBOC) got it so wrong again.

Yes; it was a tornado. If WBOC says it was a tornado, then they have to explain why their weather app didn't alert people as they claim it will.

Anonymous said...

Yes I do

Anonymous said...

They cant call it one until the NWS confirms that it was. Just like the recent one in DE.

The video, and pictures clearly showed a twister. ABC AND CBS NEWS reported this as a tornado as well as the weather channel. The words possible tornado was never mentioned. I believe they are in major damage control and their credibility is now on the line. Definitely asleep at the wheel on this one, and very late to the party in reporting the damage. As a matter of fact they are now begging viewers to send them pictures of the storm and storm damage. This is something they should have been doing from the start of the reporting of this storm.

8:49, Not even a confident, we believe it was but it hasn't been confirmed yet. WHY do they hire these educated and experienced people then. Why didn't they know it was coming? Or even it being a possibility. I'm sorry but if they worked for me they'd all be FIRED. We experienced so many wrong reports this past winter. Don't call yourself a news leader when you have to depend on a local Blog to know something is going on.

Straight Line Winds can cause the same damage as a Tornado! It just recently happened in PA earlier this year! I'm not sure who confirms what it was, but it's definitely not the Mayor or the Blogs! I would like to know which of the two it was

Anonymous said...

Citizens multiple videos proved it was a tornado.

Did anyone else pick up on Dan saying the App will only notify you if you are within a mile of the event, "it won't bother you if you the storm will not affect you". As far as I know no one received an alert via the WBOC app, only Weather channels app even if you were within the mile range of the tornado.

Ol Dan was bumbling a lot last night at 6pm trying to sidestep about the lack of an alert.

It was a SHARK NADO !!!

8:54 Must be one of the staff of wboc!
Damage control!!!
Love it!!!

Dear 8:54 ,
straight line winds in excess of 175 MPH can push cars and other objects , not lift them , this was not the case in Salisbury Md. . Several cars and other objects were lifted by circular winds this is called a tornado . It was also included on the weather channel that circular winds were in the Salisbury and the tornado WARNING was issued stating to find a safe place to hide from this tornado. Are you still in denial like that guy Day? You got to be a left wing idiot.

Local news cannot warn on a system that the National Weather Service has not issued a warning on. That policy is standard across all broadcast media. There are no doubts about it, the NWS blew it and they should be held responsible for it. This is also why the sirens did not sound, phone messages were not sent, etc. Also, while it was a tornado, it cannot be official until the assessment team from the NWS issues their final confirmation which should be later this afternoon.

Why deny something when you have visual evidence? It's like Dem's and the Russian collusion crap. They can't see what's in front of them because it might prove that they missed something so obvious.

Lets be honist. Yes it was a tornado and we all saw the video. Ues wboc weather app is an absolute joke. Yes mayor Jake days Facebook page is a waste of time and yes SBYNEWS is where people go to find out what is going on around Delmarva.

Anonymous said...

yes , tornado

Anonymous said...

No. Barbara Mikulsky came to Salisbury and made a speech at the college. It was just some of her hot air being released.

Anonymous said...

8:46 AM All that idiot did was babble on and never answered the question as to why no one activated the sirens until AFTER the tornado.

Anonymous said...

The fact of the matter is, they failed us and many lives were put in danger because of this. The only decent thing for WBOC to do is ask for Dan's resignation as the head meteorologists of WBOC.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't take a weather genius to look at the videos of the TORNADO. My guess is it's about withholding federal money for the repairs people deserve who suffered damages.

JoeAlbero said...

9:26, CYA, Look, you cannot tell me that WBOC waits for the NWS to alert them first. Sorry, I'm not buying that. Even you say they won't confirm it until this afternoon, so how can they send out an alarm/alert when it doesn't come for a good 24 hours after the tornado hits? You make no sense. I'll add, I've seen WBOC state ahead of a storm that there may be a possibility of tornado force winds or a possible tornado. WBOC screwed the pooch on this one, period. More evidence their meteorologists aren't worthy of their title.

To those of you trying to state we are just a Blog, we have never stated we can predict the weather. We, (unlike WBOC) keep tabs on nationally recognized professional services and publish what we feel the public should be aware of. We were the first to break the news on this storm/tornado, (once again) and delivered images in as real time as humanly possible. Hence why so many news outlets asked permission to use those images.

As someone also stated, most if the images we provided were shot before 1st responders arrived AND not one of the images you'll see here or anywhere else show WBOC or WMDT on the scene.

You have no idea how tornadoes are identified, or confirmed. For those that declare what happened in Salisbury yesterday to be a tornado, your ignorance is showing.

JoeAlbero said...

9:54, What will you be saying after it is confirmed?

How many people will call BS if the NWS doesn't confirm what we all saw in videos?

When you see cars thrown in the air and rolling over and over again, I'm pretty confident they'll call it what it was, a tornado.

I'm pretty sure most everyone will agree you are with WBOC or WMDT trying to CYA.

WBOC has been wrong on forecasting the weather for so long now that I don't believe anything they say. Have you noticed how the temperature for the day is listed in a 10-degree sweep. Today will be 70 - 80 degrees and partly sunny. I thought with all the fancy new satellites they have now for forecasting weather that it would get better, not worse. And then even with the 10 degree difference they are wrong. Truly trust nothing they say any longer.

Joe 9:47,

There are many instances when a tornado is reported by radar, but after further assessment the day afterward, leads to straightline winds, downbursts, etc and not a tornado. NWS will issue the warnings based off observations, radar signatures, etc. for safety reasons and issue the confirmation later. Based off radar imagery and videos from yesterday it was quite clear it was a tornado, but this is not always the case. What happened yesterday was a clear failure by the NWS. Broadcast media will not issue warnings, watches, etc because it will cause a clear conflict on many occasions. All weather outlets must be on the same page as to not confuse the public, hence why local NWS offices are the end all be all for watch/warning issuance. Not to mention, broadcast media, does not have the manpower nor the tools to consistently monitor conditions like the National Weather Service does. Think what you may, but this is the truth of the matter.

Yea, what's the odds, with all the places for tornado to go on the shore, that it would hit rt 13 in salisbury near the college?

JoeAlbero said...

10:08, I completely understand what you are saying and thanks for sharing your view.

WBOC has been bragging for more then a year now that they bought into the most advanced system that will allow them to better forecast the weather, including 3-D type images, the whole nine yards. THEY are the ones who allegedly comforted their viewing audience as to why they/we should ALL depend on WBOC first, yet I have not once seen them get it right.

It's almost false advertising. Some might even say it's a lie.

TORNADO HAS BEEN CONFIRMED! Just stated on fox news.

YES

YES

I'm sorry, Dan bumbled through his "cast" last evening because he was off script.

When each/every day is pre-programmed for: "Party Sunny, highs in the mid 80's", then on a live newscast a TORNADO hits the city - bumbling becomes the new format!

(sidenote: when any real TV newscast goes "off script", its the most hilarious/nutty/unorganized newscast that is truly needed now and then! The lack of rhythm really shows who is good and who is just a teleprompt reader!!)

It is total arrogance to not admit you made a mistake. There is much photographic evidence out there in both pictures and Videos. My own son who works on the downtown plaza by WMDT was on his lunch break when this happened. He was telling me about the rain being sucked up into the sky at the time of the storm. Someone he had never seen before. For a period of time he saw the rain going up instead of coming down. Maybe some of these news reporters need to have windows in their office to maybe look outside from time to time instead of looking at a computer monitor. It was funny to see Jimmy Hoppa begging viewers to submit to them pictures and videos of yesterday's storm! Looks like damage control to me!

Anonymous said...

Yes of course it was I watched it coming across the parking lot our glass started to move I ran for a interior room then the I heard a very loud pop and we loss power. What upsets me so much is that WBOC said yesterday morning flash flooding, did they not think that there would be wind and thunder storms involved in the flooding...I'm sorry but I find that just unacceptable. Next time please just say we might get a thunder storm, winds etc...

Anonymous said...

10:19 Then it must be true!! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Anonymous said...

They will only report on what those that are qualified to call a tornado, a tornado.

Anonymous said...

They won't do that because the community that was hit was mainly rentals and we know SBY lives to serve it's slumlord masters. They will get whatever they want on your dime. I did see one landlord with a chainsaw and trailer clearing his tenants yards just an hour after the tornado, but it wasn't one of the big property management companies in town.

Anonymous said...

Nothing but a tornado causes the type of damage I saw yesterday. It wasn't like everything fell in the direction of the prevailing wind. It was ripped apart and twisted in all directions. Also the fronts were positioned perfectly to cause a tornado and send it straight through town, and that is exactly what happened.
By the way Dan, WBOC will fire you if your commenting here while you are on the clock so cut it out.

Anonymous said...

A warm and cold front were already colliding in that line so being that it was perfect set up conditions I would say 1:1 odds it was a tornado.

Michelle Evans said...

Yes! Absolutely!! I ran right into it and saw with my own eyes!!!

Anyone who saw the video of the circular winds moving SE across Dogwood and the unfortunate car getting rolled out of the parking lot onto Dogwood doesn't have to ask that question. Regardless of how many educated morons say otherwise.

Dizzy Dan and the Executive Producer need to be Fired there BOTH Incompetent ....How did they NOT see this storm coming from over the bridge with a 5 he Notice of 70 degree temp and 100 PERCENT HUMIDITY ?????? FIRE BITH OF THESE CLUELESS FOOLS BEFORE THERE INCOMPITENCE GETS PEOPLE......K I L L E D.

Anonymous said...

They only report on Dover Tornados.

Anonymous said...

Actually 926, fifteen mintes before the tornado struck the area around Cheers, my AccuWeather App said there would be wind conditions that would create tornadoes. So yes, it was predicted a tornado could occur.

Anonymous said...

I was in a building on South Salisbury BLVD when it occurred. Definitely was a tornado, never experienced anything like it. You could feel the power of the wind even inside the building.

Anonymous said...

Of course even their own Dan said it was, they are just afraid to say anything anymore because they have to take their extricate their feet out of their mouth first.

At 1:08 my NOAA radio went off with a warning not watch. So why not a local alert?

Anonymous said...

it was a Shark Nado people ........

Shark Nados don't show up on Triple Doppler Radar !!!
