Wow 5000 calories. Easy. No thanks.

Cut the negative comments. They have much better food than a lot of restaurants around town that might be more appealing to the eye. And trust me, they make plenty of money!

@8:01, yes they do! All their veggies are great!

Many of us mourn the passing of Donald Dayton this past week. Condolences to his wife, Annie, and all his family...many memories, many years. Rest in peace, Donald.

It used to be really nice. The place has really gone down hill and needs updated. It's absolutely gross inside. I went in the other day and took one wiff and walked out. I really want this place to go back like it used to. I know I'm not alone when I say how filthy this places. Everything is sticky and grind me to include the menus. I hope the owners see this and take action. My guess is they will do nothing because the same people will continue to go and not care how dirty the places. Since it is a small local restaurant that has been around for years I'm sure the good old boy network wouldn't dream of giving them enough for cleanliness and shutting them down until they've fixed the problem.

I ate there awhile back. I agree food looks good,. However, it is loaded with salt. Nothing like raising that blood pressure to dangerous levels with just one meal.

Last time I ate there a customer next to me who complained to his waitress about having dirty silverware. Instead of just replacing the silverware the waitress began to argue with the customer in front of the whole restaurant. Several people, including myself, called the manager/owner to complain right after that happened and the owner was backing the waitress (heard the waitress was related to the owner but can't confirm that). It was so bad even the other waitresses were coming to our table and apologizing. Haven't been back since.

Can't be too unhealthy. Everyone in there is 70+ years old.

tHE BEST Greens I ever tasted there!

I was there once and IMO it was so dirty I never came back.

It's old-style Eastern Shore fare. This platter is a favorite with those who left their dentures at home.

Good food, reasonably priced, good service....good review....but oh my there are some snotty people in Salisbury. Apparently can't just let something nice stand on it's merit. Pick, pick, pick!

LMAO!

And, if you don't like the food fine. No need to make stupid comments.
and yes "YOU" choose your veggies... You can even have double fries with gravy if you so choose. This is America where we can order whatever food we wish.
This is a great place to eat.

What's that gelatin looking stuff on the meat?

I love their fried chicken and greens

11:33 Leftovers from that hole in the wall that closed in Pittsville. Welcome to the slower lower - home of the where can I get the most slop for the cheapest price. Sorry that this happens to hit too close to home for most of you but as you say if it's true it's not a stereotype.

It has always been a good place to eat and see friends. The staff also is very friendly always. The waitresses have been their for years how many places do you see that, where you know their names and smiles. And Tony who has been there for years is the best of the best.

My husband LOVES going there in the winter to eat muskrat. Yep, definitely an Eastern Shore restaurant. Here's my thought. So what if the furniture isn't new and modern? It's nice to go somewhere and remember how life used to be, and how it still is there. Thank you Dayton's, for your many years of service to the community.
P.S. Everyone should try their pork chops, you won't regret it! :-)

Go early if you want any food. They sell out to all the retired people that eat at 4:00PM, every day. I've tried to eat there several times after work, not real late, maybe 5-6PM, and found that the special is sold out. This has not happened 1 or 2 times, but more like 5-6 times. I don't even try to eat there anymore. I'm not retired. It's a place for old people that don't want to cook for themselves anymore. Just look at the customers when you go there. Hence the home-cooked style specials. Maybe when I retire someday, I will go join the old folks for a mid-afternoon meal. For the life of me, I don't understand why they have any hours after 6PM. They're always out of food.

We used to joke it was "God's waiting room".but the food is great if you dont count calories.I always get a reasonable and delicious meal every time! Facelift yes..but the food is so good it doesn't matter.

Anonymous said...

It's a great place if you don't like it go somewhere else hint hint thankfully we do live in a country where you can. Yes the food CAN BE high calorie just like any restaurant

Anonymous said...

I see people are complaining about this good but they will eat the he'll put of McDonalds in healthy

I walked in there and thought I was in the Twilight Zone. Silver hair, walkers, dentures and oxygen bottles. Chicken is OK.

Now that the sorry excuse for a diner in Pittsville closed, they all are driving at 26 mph to Daytons.

Anonymous said...

If you are worried about your weight stay home and eat lettuce.

Anonymous said...

3:55 You forgot to add that they are driving 26 mph in the left lane all the way there. :)

Anonymous said...

26mph to catch the early bird 🐦 special. 😂😂😂😂

My dad's 76 and drives like a bat out of hell. Sober even. California stops the whole deal.

Would you take a look at that food in the picture. It looks like a 1973 Swanson 📺 dinner. You can buy two TV dinners for the cost of that one dinner plus the drink and tip. Just gross. Please. This is what you call an old fashion home cooked meal?

The serve muskrat for God's sake.

We go there about twice per month and enjoy every bit of it. Great atmosphere, great food and great prices. So if you want 2 ounces of meat, 4 ounces of veggies that are not cooked well and rubbery rolls, then go to the big expensive places. There are certainly plenty of them around the "Bury"

Anonymous said...

That looks like a school lunch!....that kids won't eat! Meatloaf is what Mom would feed us when she wanted the hamburger to go farther. Needless to say, we never asked for it for dinner, but we got it anyway.

Anonymous said...

Ray definitely fits the demographic. I better use words that more of you will understand - he sounds and looks like he fits the description of a typical daytons customer.

I ate breakfast there on Monday. Scrambled eggs were the liquid kind not fresh eggs and weren't cooked well. My stomach took hours to get right. Needless to say, I won't be back anytime soon.

I was there tonight! No complaints with food. The server was disgusting! Very inattentive. Coffee was cold. She was clueless! Never spoke her name. Once she heard me say to my guest we would not return, she then came over. Tried to be pleasant! Very unpleasant person! Appearance very unattractive! Said no cornbread. Yet she came out with a side dish she was eating! Daytons lost more customers. Do better with your servers! If you want the business to thrive. Better choices of servers! Those there lack everything!
