North Carolina Is Now Drug Testing Welfare Recipients and Applicants

North Carolina social service offices are now drug testing some welfare recipients and applicants.

The law requiring testing of any Work First recipient suspected of being a drug user was enacted in 2013. After a year’s delay in implementing the law, the state began requiring the testing in August.

Of several thousand people who have been screened, 89 people took the test and 21 of them tested positive.

Benefits for adults are cut off or reduced if a test is positive or if a test appointment is missed.

I think this is brilliant! But why stop at welfare? I say anyone receiving public money has to pass the test.. this would include all politicians, local/state/federal workers..... pretty much anyone who gets payed in tax dollars.

11:28 - Social Security is an insurance program that employees pay in to. Just like you going out and investing in an annuity.

Do some research - before you spout drivel!

1:47 You are right! The morons on the shore assume its a government handout when in fact WE,the working people, pay in to the SS kitty all our lives. It is OUR money, not a welfare stipend for lazy people!

11:28,,,,I am assuming you meant Social Security Disability recipients should be tested. It is rampant with fraud. Up over 400% in ten years and being drained by dollars going to illegals.

Wrong, wrong and wrong, while it is true that most people pay into Social Security during their years of working and paying payroll taxes the truth of the matter is most current recipients are also currently drawing much more than they have ever contributed. The base year where that scale flips is actually those born after 1958 on average. So yes for the majority of those receiving Social Security and that will enter into the Social Security payee system within the next 8-10 years you are getting other peoples money. Truth hurts.
