Reasons Used to Justify Damage Caused by Wind Power:
- Dependence on foreign oil
- Global warming
- Clean and renewable energy
- New "green" jobs
Does wind power reduce foreign oil dependence?
- Wind turbines produce electricity, but only 1% of American electricity comes from oil.
- Producing electricity with wind doesn't help because electricity isn't coming from oil.
- Even if wind could produce all our electricity, it wouldn't impact oil.
Does wind power reduce carbon emissions?
- When wind blows traditional power plants are throttled back slightly, but not shut off.
- They are kept running to be ready when the wind slows.
- Fuel consumption and c02 emissions continue even as wind turbines produce electricity.
Does wind power create “green” jobs?
- On average 1 low-paid maintenance worker is employed for every 12-15 turbines.
- Turbines are manufactured overseas and assembled onsite by specialized firms.

Supporters Say the Damage is Justified
They say the communities that are disrupted, environments that are destroyed, and people who are made sick need to "sacrifice" for the greater good. People most severely impacted by the damages are dismissed as "NIMBYs" and accused of being selfish.

Now Ireton wants to have wind turbines here in Salisbury and says it will create lots of jobs.
He was on TV last night shilling for the investment group from Texas that wants to do the wind farms in Somerset County.
It is doubtful if wind turbines are practical anywhere. They are definitely not practical in areas with low level, intermitent wind, like the Eastern Shore.
Everybody ignores the constant danger to eagles, falcons, buzzards, etc.
I`m SO tired of hearing about all the JOBS the windpower projects will bring to the Shore. I am a retired crane operator who had 32 years of experience in high steel and heavy lifting projects.
The jobs to which these self appointed experts (Ireton,Pioneer Green) refer are highly skilled positions i.e. Heavy Crane operators, High Steel steeplejacks, and electro-mechanical technicians who have been trained by the producers and erectors of these machines. A good case in point is the Crisfield project underway right now. The general contractor is from Sudelersville Md. and has brought his crew with him. The foundation contractor is from Balto. Md., and has done the same because their individual craft needs AREN`T HERE. They DO NOT TRAIN because this type of dangerous workers require JOURNEYMEN who recognize the risks. When the erector comes, mostly ALL of his men come with him because they travel the U.S.A. doing this work hand in hand because of the liability involved. If you want a job it would probably be picking up trash for minimum wage, subject to union affiliation. The liars whom have promised all this should be ran out of town along with the political asses who are backing them. Bob Aswell
Ireton's full of crap. The only jobs the turbines create are those who manufacture them. That's it that's all. There are no jobs created on a local level with these things. A large percentage of them end up abandoned anyway.
Wind turbines are dangerous junk.
They are being improperly placed too close to roads and homes causing miserable living conditions for people and killing massive numbers of wildlife while producing a marginal amount of energy. It is time to stop this parasite industry before any more damage is done.

another dirty secret that Siemens and the manufacturers of wind turbines -- mostly foreign firms -- have been able to cover up: fires that occur high above the ground in the turbine modules that cannot be controlled and release deadly toxins and create a risk of spreading if it gets into nearby woods or buildings.

The ice throw risk circle is over 1400 feet. We the kids at Somerset Intermediate have to wear a hard hat while at school?
Adding wind to the mix weakens the grid while decreasing its efficiency. When wind energy is dumped, the ratepayer still pays for it and when it is producing because of the need for backup, ratepayers are paying 1.5 times more for the energy.
I am not willing to pay $300 for $200 worth of energy, are you?
