Although the number of overtime payments to state employees made in 2013 remained roughly the same as those made in 2012, the sum of those payments rose by more than $8 million, according to a database provided by the state comptroller’s office in response to a Public Information Act request.
In 2012, the total amount of overtime paid out to all state employees totaled $126,719,585. Over 2013 the total payments rose to $135,050,262 — over $8 million more. Roughly one-third of this increase is due to an across-the-board living allowance raise which occurred in January of 2013.
The extra rise in overtime indicates either that more total overtime hours were worked this past year, or that higher-paid employees were working the same number of hours.

Wicomico county sheriffs dept. in undermanned to make it so officers can work loads of overtime and get rich!
So what? They work huge numbers of hours, they deserve to get paid.
Some have full pay retirements and regular pay...Double dipping into tax payers pockets.
When someone calls out sick, or is unable to work for some reason, the person who works for them gets time and a half. The person who called out gets regular time pay. Therefore that particular shift cost the state and the taxpayers 2 and one half times the original salary.
Most of the time the deputies are sleeping behind a building or eating in a restaurant, then when they get a call they jump to action. LAZY, that is why they are so fat! Go back to the days of the radio stayed in the car, then you will see police work improve! I know one deputy that jacks up his car and places a brick on the gas peddle to rack up the miles as if he is on patrol, while he is in his livingroom watching TV shows!
