These numbers are absolutely horrible. WOW! I knew the economy was bad, but now I can actually see it.
Joe, thank you very much for providing me with this information. I am very grateful for all your diligent work.
Looks as though we are going ass backwards. Sales taxes are down, incomes are dropping, jobs are disappearing. How can Governor O'Malley say we have rebounded. We are worse off today than we were 4 yrs ago.
Plain and simple - our county has been economically devastated. The information says it all.
Looks as though we are about to get another round of tax increases.
This looks to be good fertile political ground for Pollitt to campaign on.
About the only thing I can think of to brag about is when are next round of EBT cards to be released.
All of our local networks should be all over this. This information is staggering.
The economy is much better on the western shore where there are jobs.
Obama's stimulus is promotion of governmental welfare. He and our Governor should be ashamed of themselves.
Can anybody say"Obamacare"!
Until all of the working voters go to the poles ...we will continue to see the 47% stomp on our paychecks..to get free stuff ..federal grants to build welfare housing... sidewalks..bike lanes....and schools we cant afford all of which the demoturds are willing to waste our money on..but no industry growth in fact these idiots enact laws and taxes to chase them away...this is why this 15year fruitland come here is soon outta here..
One general observation, the decline in revenues are consistent. By the looks of the numbers, we have already entered another recession.
The data reflects a horrible economy. Unbelievable!
5:21 I'm no fan of Obamacare but that is not the blame for the problems in Wicomico county. It is a local and state issue.
Let's be alittle realistic people....the shore has been sinking for awhile political factors aside. The shore on a whole is a mess... No real jobs, people leaving, zero progress...and bypassing Salisbury two ways is probably the dumbest move I can think of. Blaming Obama and o'malley won't fix things most of the shores issues began long before the two village idiots went into office. Now is too late.... Attracting companies to Maryland isn't gonna happen. The shore is on life support and it's only going to get worse .
To 6:44 Posting - I agree with the eastern shore being on life support.
But as a lifelong resident, I do not ever recall the economy being this bad. There used to be some industry even as far back as the mid 60s. We had a Chris Craft plant, Wayne Pump, we had several large scale sawmills including ES Adkins, and, an abundance of Seafood processors - like Nanticoke Seafood. Granted, we did not have the abundance of fast food establishments like we do now - but we did manufacture something. In my honest assessment, Wicomico is experiencing a depression.
This economy is a reflection of a society that has gone berserk. The counties leaders keep hoping for a different result without initiating any substantive change. Let's face it, the system is broke.
Revenue. Cap. That is all.
To 9:08 - I can tell you have been drinking again. Why don't you dry up and get a real job.
The revenue cap would be a band-aid on a mortal wound.
One thing for sure, raising the sales tax rate yielded less money for the State. By the revenue numbers, it looks as though either the people started shopping in DE or they just decided to spend less, and/or both. I know on all of my big ticket purchases I always go to DE.
Create jobs, encourage business to move into the area, stop spending and invest in training and education.
Think back folks. All was well here until 2006. Thats when the Democrats took control of the Government and it's been going down since then. Our country will not survive as a free enterprise business producing economy as long as we have a Socialistic president.
Really??? All was well??? Were the heck were you? Companies were leaving long before that. Sure you had a construction high but that was it. You had no real jobs then and the real estate bubble was it on the shore. Things were going south it just wasn't obvious if you weren't looking. Most of the industry was gone by then. So maybe do some research before you post.
714 it's way beyond a depression. You lose jobs, people, and ignore progress and things go south. The shore has based its success on oc, and chickens.... Bad call.. No high paying jobs for the long term. Add the bypasses so most travelers never drive thru Salisbury, they drive around... Real smart.... Not! Good luck Delmarva you need it.
Location, location, location. What most people fail to realize is that Wicomico county has been on a down hill slide for decades. It appeared that all was good for a few years leading up to the housing crash because people with money from the western shore were buying up property at inflated prices. Real estate agents, builders, landscapers, and businesses selling interior design/furnishings were supporting the otherwise faltering economy. When the housing bubble burst the only remaining industry became service positions in retail/restaurants and fast food. There are a handful of people with the means increase their wealth in this environment (landlords/large scale farmers/doctors/lawyers). Everyone else is struggling to survive or on public assistance. You can blame it on the democrats/Obama/O'Malley all you want but the reality is that only you are to blame. There are plenty of areas in the US that are thriving…low unemployment/double digit increases to housing prices/new industry paying six figures, but these areas welcome change and diversity. Many of the highest ranking places to live in the US are located in cities with universities, yet the majority of posters on here have animosity towards SU. Google best places to live 2014. Keep calling anyone that has different opinion than you stupid/communist/dumocrat all you want. FYI, I am a republican educated/business owner but not afraid to respect the view of others and learn from those that have different viewpoints. If you cannot understand where they are coming from, you will never be in a position to be be in front of them.
I have basically been saying this for months.... Glad to see someone else actually has their eyes open..... But sadly the people of Delmarva play the blame game......now there's nothing left to do but watch it crash and burn. More companies will leave, tourism will continue to slow..... Good luck born here's the jokes on you.
It's more than just OweBlameLess...
The local politicians we have elected (even though I voted conservative personally, we collectively elected them), have directly contributed to our localized downward spiral.
As examples, one only has to look at states / regions where conservatives run the state / lower levels of government that are experiencing positive expanding growth in both population and tax revenue while not overburdening their citizens.
The 40 tax increases and increased spending every year in the O'malley regime along with poor local management all worked together to invite our manufacturing jobs out of Wicomico to other states, and the previous administrations started the mess. 7 major businesses/ employers per year have closed their Wicomico doors for the last 20 years.
Let's try raising taxes again and adding new ones (rain, property)and see if that will attract those businesses back here to Wicomico.
Unless the leaders wake up to real facts, the rest of us might as well just start packing.
8:00 - the leaders are not going to wake up to the facts...their own facts are what they want!
The voters need to wake up to the facts and elect a better government...problem with that is there are very few of the right people willing to run so we're stuck with the lesser of the evils...
salisbury hasn't been the crossroads of delmarva since the bypass was built around it. salisbury is ground zero here in wicomico county, the epicenter of disaster

Well that all makes perfect sense. People are making less money so that spend less. #2 and #3 directly affect #1. Perhaps the County could take a lesson from the common people: If the County's income is reduced (AKA tax revenue) the spending should be reduced (AKA budgets). If the lowly citizens of Wicomico County can get it, then why can't the "experts" in office understand the concept?
Lets not forget the State roll in this. In 2012 they intentionally devalued most rural land using the 2012 Septic Bill. What they failed to consider is that spending is dependent on how wealthy one feels. So reducing landowners net worth resulted in their spending in the cities and towns is down. In turn, the income of the people dependent on the spending is down, too. And the Democratic death spiral presses on!
