Defense Secretary Hagel Plans Pentagon Cuts That Would Take Army To Pre-WWII Levels

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Monday that the Army must shrink to pre-World War II troop levels to preserve funding for elite counterterrorism operations and maintain the cybersecurity programs needed to counter threats by emerging rivals such as China.

In the first major strategy proposal put forth by Mr. Hagel since he took over as the Obama administration’s defense boss a year ago, the former Republican senator outlined a wide-ranging restructuring of the Pentagon budget over the coming five years.

Hagel is not much more than an OweBlama 'yes-man' that doesn't understand the overall concept of defense as a strategy for this nation.

If he had done a little better while he was in the military, he would be a Republican - instead of the gimme-job Democrat he is now!

If anyone here is old enough to remember when WW 2 came along, America was so ill prepared we dam near lost! We had soldiers training with bromes and shovels because there were not enough rifles in our armories to equip front line troops and recruits.
For anyone who has not gone abroad, most of the world hates us, and to let down our guard is stupid! We are asking for an attack! Maybe Obama hopes we get involved in another war, then he can suspend elections and name himself King!

We will need the growth of more militias to ensure our own safety.

856 other countries don't like us, true.

Those same countries aren't looking to attack us via armored divisions charging across the battlefield. Nor should we be going on any more bogus 100+ k troop marches into the desert, or any other theater for that matter, for a decade or two.

Anon 8:30 AM,

Chuck Hagel is actually a Republican which makes me wonder why he is bowing down to these liberal actions.

Defunding defense is essentially inviting attacks on our homeland. If we are going to cut our military in any way, it needs to be cut overseas. Bring home troops, withdraw military presence and concentrate our spending at home.
