Last week Governor O'Malley boasted about the lower unemployment taxes Maryland businesses will see next year. He claimed the lower rates are a sign of the "progress" of Maryland's economic recovery under the O'Malley-Brown administration.
"What recovery is he talking about?" said business leader and Change Maryland Chairman Larry Hogan. "There are 6,500 fewer small businesses, unemployment has doubled, and 120,000 additional people are unemployed since O'Malley took office. This is just another chapter in Martin O'Malley's book of fairy tales," Hogan said.
Due to the recession, unemployment claims all but depleted Maryland's Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, going from a high of $680 million in 2009 to a low of $50 million in 2010. Governor O'Malley cajoled and bullied business groups, who initially opposed his plan to replenish the unemployment trust fund.

Well when you raise it so high as he does, then lowers it some, they act as if your getting a break...
YOU'RE NOT, just like the bay bridge toll fees, it went from 2.50 for 30+ years and paid for everything the bridge needed and paid for workers...
NOW the tool fees will be at the end 8 dollars from 2.50 but you all think you did some good by fighting it from 10 to 8 yay you saved us 2 dollars over all even though it went from 2.50 to 8... the govt still got what they wanted ebcasue they knew if they rasied the bar so fucking high, if they got it, thats a plus for them and if you fought it liek you did, and only lowered it 2 dollars in the over all final fee they still win and we still lose because they got the toll increse and not to mention they can rasie that even more still...
OH NO this won't hurt us, yet when the truckers pass this bridge and have to pay that toll, where do you think the cost of that toll goes, THAT'S RIGHT INTO THE COST OF THE PRODUCT THEY SHIP FOR YOU TO BUY...
so now you get to pay 8 bucks each time your cross the bay bridge and you get to pay higher cost on products they ship to us because of the cost of the toll...
Don't you all also love how we pay taxes to cover things the city is supposed to do, but now we pay them taxes for the same things yet they don't do them and then fine us if we don't do it for them... GOTTA LOVE GOOD OLD USA...

Maryland and the country are beyond bankrupt as it is.
It's about money and nothing else. Hiring a foreign worker relieves the employer from paying unemployment insurance. Don't pay into the fund and it can service less (and need to cut benefits to Americans). Great strategy for an elected official as long as they can continue to convince you that Americans don't want "the job".
