When someone is sentenced to let's say 30 days in jail they usually get weekend jail time.
We came to learn that may completely change somewhere around Oct 1, 2013.
Instead, inmates will be placed into a community service program. Many will be sent to the landfill and the majority will be doing physical work instead of sitting around all weekend.
I was also told, (not confirmed) that inmates will be able to go home Saturday night but are required to show up again on Sunday.
Personally, I think that is a fantastic decision by County Judges. Delaware has been enforcing this very process for many years. It saves the taxpayers a ton of money.
What's your thoughts?

Seems like an incentive to commit a crime and not worry about a harsh punishment.
Should have happened years ago.
I agree with the working at the landfill or cleaning roadways, but not going home for the weekend. Just how many do you thing will actually return on Sunday night? This is supposed to be jail not a week at the Hilton.
Maybe they can pick up some of the highway trash we are inundated with since the waste division raised their rates.
Just imagine how many guys will use the outside work to get hurt and sue the county !
Go for it!
At least the drunk drivers will be home for Saturday night to take their wife out to the Bar.
I think we should allow them to clean the White House.
Isn't this the same establishment that has set criminal free on a couple of occasions? How do they keep track of all the comings and goings?
Bring back Road Gangs! Work the hell out of them. The won't come back.
Maybe they can do some of the jobs "Americans" won't do??
This is going to make some of the wives very unhappy.
When one of these inmates goes and does something really stupid when they are under the jurisdiction of this program, they will stop it so fast your head will spin. Other agencies do the same thing...a knee jerk reaction based on the actions of one idiot.
