NTSB: Plane Found Fractured On Ocean Floor

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report on the Ocean City plane crash that killed two off-duty police officers says the plane appeared intact as it hit the ocean and it was found together, but fractured from impact.

The report states that divers found the fractured small military-style plane together on the ocean floor but the left wing was lost during recovery. The NTSB says investigators hope to salvage video from a camera in the rear cockpit. A second report will be released when the investigation is complete and a final report will include findings and a probable cause for the crash.

Maybe the wing fell off and that may have initiated a crash?

The plane appeared to be intact at impact during the video, there are differing opinions as to whether or not the plane was in a spin. If so that could indicate a stall condition during an aerobatic maneuver, pilot error, it could also indicate mechanical failure of control surfaces causing loss of control and or recovery ability. If the video was recording it will more than likely yield the cause of the crash.

Then there is the dreaded Pilot error thing.

There was probably a reason the plane was discontinued.
