Gun-Maker Beretta Wooed By 2 Neighboring States Due To Maryland Gun-Control Bill

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — As a far-reaching gun-control measure aims to ban assault weapons in Maryland, neighboring states are trying to woo away a Beretta factory, whose employees would be unable to buy some of its products.

Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, who represents the district where the factory is located in Accokeek and has received $12,000 in campaign contributions from Beretta since 2005, noted Friday that senators changed the bill with Beretta in mind, but he says the company still isn’t happy.

“We have, I think, helped the company as best we possibly can in terms of them continuing to be able to do business in the state of Maryland,” said Miller, who voted for the bill, although he expressed misgivings about it. “We’ve allowed them to manufacture. We’ve allowed them to sell, and we’ve cut back on their paper work.”

No, I read the bill yesterday. I would be unable to send my gun in for repair and they would not be able to send it back to me, as a banned gun may not be handled in that fashion by any MD gun dealer. In addition, nothing in this bill will prevent Sandy Hooks or any other mass shooting. In fact, my making anyone who goes to see a psychologist be forced to acquire a letter of sanity on day one (a letter no Psychiatrist or Psychologist would ever write on day one) and send it in to the feds pretty much guarantees that someone with bad thoughts or instability will avoid psychiatric care like the plague; thereby CREATING abetter possibility that another mass shooting WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!

they won't be the only ones leaving the state..I'm already selling my house and moving to Virginia

I believe Beretta has a plant in Pocomoke. The Virginia State line is. just a few miles south. If Virginia is smart they will give Beretta a piece of land to build on and reap the benifits of taxes and jobs.

We have some serious issues with the MD State Government and most of it started after electing our current Governor. I can see where in the fairly near future that many other industries start moving out of the state, along with many of its citizens. I for one am seriously contemplating leaving MD and move across the border to DE. Joe posted a youtube video the otherday featuring a lady who once opposed gun ownership but now does not and I feel that everytime someone in the State legislature puts forth some idiotic idea regarding either owning or manufacturing that they should be made to see that video and to keep playing it until the "thickheads" finally understand it.

Just my 2 cents and I apologize for this comment not necessarily being related to the post.

Move your company over the border to V.A. much more business friendly and it will send a clear message to all the liberals. Americans love the second amendment. It will only get worse in M.D. more tax payers are leaving day, I plan on being one in the next year.

companies moving out of maryland will not send a message to those in power because those in power are in their own little utopia. they really don't think we peasants know anything. they want to take the guns

It seems the Baltimorans are ruling the Eastern Shore I say break free from them - Blow the bridges up and become a new State then we cant be screwed by them any more

Miller's statements like "we've allowed them to manufacture here, sell here, and allow them to continue doing business here". That's the problem. Maryland Democrats have made this state unfriendly to business. And, Beretta can freely move to another state that would appreciate their business. We should embrace business in stead of making them think the owe the state for being here.
