1 Dead, 9 Injured In Lightning Strike At Pocono

Lightning strikes at Pocono Raceway after a rain-shortened NASCAR race Sunday killed one fan and injured nine others, one critically, racetrack officials said.

Multiple lightning strikes occurred behind the racetrack's grandstands and outside one of the gates as fans were leaving, Pocono spokesman Bob Pleban said. It wasn't immediately clear how many of the fans were actually struck by the lightning itself or were injured by related jolts.

Having gone to many NASCAR races. When weather that bad is seen on it's way, the race should be stopped before the storm gets there. That wasn't just a "rain storm" which is fine. It was severe thunderstorm. When watching racing, you can't hear
anything, and with all the action on the track, pay little attention to any weather.
Still a huge fan, watch every weekend but I feel NASCAR should've stopped the race sooner to give the fans a chance to seek cover.
I'm a Jeff Jordon fan, and nice to see him win. But sad it cost someone their life.

That was a warning to Jeff Gordan. He didn't win that race. It was handed to him.

I remember when a storm came up in Dover and killed 2 people. They need to warn people way before it gets there.

11:51, Someone has to win a rain shortened race. I bet if it was your driver it would be okay. Besides, how much bad luck has he had this year? Good to see he got some good luck for a change. Besides, I doubt that anyone with 86 victories can be acused of simply being lucky. Jealous? Who do you root for....2 win Jr?
