Hawaii Couple's Daughter Taken Away for 18 Hours Over Alleged Sandwich Theft

A Hawaii couple’s 3-year-old daughter was taken away from them for 18 hours after they were arrested for forgetting to a pay for two $5 sandwiches.

"This is unreal this could happen to a family like ours," Nicole Leszczynski told Hawaii’s KHON.

The outing-turned-nightmare happened Wednesday while the family was shopping at a local Safeway.

"We walked a long way to the grocery store and I was feeling faint, dizzy, like I needed to eat something so we decided to pick up some sandwiches and eat them while we were shopping," Leszczynski told the news station.

Whine , whine , whine ,I forgot to pay for shoes at the shoe store or my clothes at another store. You stole 10 bucks , so get over it. bet you won't do it again.

You don't just forget the two sandwiches you just ate.
"You" were trying to forget the ten dollars you owed the store.
Your not only a thief but a liar.

The liberal mentality... I'll just eat this food now because I want to.

""It was a complete distraction, distracted parent moment," Leszczynski told KHON.

What was the Father's excuse? Did they forget not to keep the labels for the sandwiches so they could be scanned at the register too?

Sounds like common thieves to me.

Lest ye be judged said...

As a parent, I am outraged, less by the incident itself, but by the callous demeanor of these posts. Although my wife and I have never taken anything, I can tell you that there have been plenty of occasions where our children have certainly distracted us. Safeway security should have certainly detained the family until the situation was cleared up, but to have the parents arrested (let's not talk about doing this to a 30 week pregnant woman - stress can cause all sorts of problems, and then tale her daughter?), and take such extreme measures, despite the fact that the family offered to pay right away - are you kidding? Beyond this, where is your sense of compassion Delmarva? Last time I checked, not one of us is in a position to judge others - that is reserved for God alone. Maybe all of those folks who have posted their comments should think about a time where they made a mistake...I know I have made many. Better yet, maybe we should all just keep our mouths shut.

As a business manager, I don't give a damn if you are pregnant or just stupid, you don't take a car for a test drive and get "distracted" and not return it. And don't give me any of this b s you can't compare a sandwich to that either. They are theives, plain and simple. $1 or $100, it is WRONG regardless of the financial situation they have.

I am guessing that they were regulars at this store since they walked there and they have "forgotten" to pay for their stuff before and not only were they busted this time but also store management just got fed up.Some of these people use their kids too, thinking "oh no one is going to accuse a pregnant woman with a kid in a stroller for stealing".
Arresting them was overkill,a simple ticket to appear in court for theft would have sufficed, but I side with the store.I work in retail and so I know all the little tricks people use to attempt to steal merchandise.Especially infuriating is when you know someone has stolen before from you but you have no proof. When you finally catch them in the act,you are not going to just let it slide.

Are you serious? Compassion? HA! Almost non-existent here and most other places as well. And most on this blog view compassion, politeness, or any other good quality as a weakness.

It's guilty until proven innocent. Everybody is perfect and have no time for people who make mistakes.

Are we supposed to be impressed because you say you are a business manager?

Even if true, it gives you no more credibility than anyone else.

And judging from your comment I would bet money you are a crappy one at that.

And no you can't accurately compare this to test driving a car. Is that what you do, sell cars? You sound like a typical used car salesman. And then have the gall to call someone else a thief?!

LMAO. You guys are some pretty big thieves your selves with no morals. Just want that dollar bill and don't care who you lie to to get it. Even your own mothers.

So take that greasy smile and go back to ripping people off and leave us alone.

If you intend on eating the food go to the cashier and pay for it first. People need to be responsible for their actions.

So 4:10 PM, what do you normally steal?

It's called "grazing" and it is illegal.
