WASHINGTON - Ticks are most well-known for spreading lyme disease, but there are other tick-borne diseases to worry about in the D.C. area.
There have been 11 case of Rocky Mountain Fever reported so far this year in Fairfax County, and another four in Prince William County, David Gaines, the public health entomologist for Virginia tells InsideNova.com. A case of the disease has also been reported in Maryland.
The disease is carried by the American Dog Tick, and caused two deaths last year.
The symptoms are a sudden onset of a moderate to high fever, severe headaches, fatigue, deep muscle pain, chills and a rash. They usually appear within two weeks of the bite of an infected tick

OMG, I thought everybody knew that. You folks better listen up as Lyme disease is bad here on the shore and I know of several cases of Rocky Mt. Fever in dogs here ( mine included about 5 years ago) , people can be next here as well. !!! My dog had not been off the property here in Wicomico County. People need to stay informed on these issues. Especially watch your kids this summer.
As a chronic lymes suffer ,I can tell you its NO JOKE! I suffer daily with this dreadful disease..There are days I cant function..Doctors around here dont know how to treat this disease..They think a 30 day pill will fix it >>WRONG..... Please be careful ...Never been so sick of being sick.....Ticks suck..
Lyme disease is does not discriminate. You could be the next victim. Doctors don't understand it. Employers don't believe that you are really sick. Neither do your family members. Ticks carry nasty diseases that are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to treat, sometimes impossible to get rid of.
