Delaware Getting Its Money’s Worth from Turnpike, Bridge

The fee to cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge rose from $3 to $4 on July 1.

The twin suspension bridges connect the Delaware Turnpike, or Interstate 95 in Delaware, on the south side with the New Jersey Turnpike on the north side, as well as a series of other major routes.

The Delaware Turnpike is the most expensive per-mile toll road in the country: It costs $4 to cross just eight miles. "That much more than pays for that piece of pavement," said John Gilmour, a College of William and Mary government professor. "Delaware is just using the fact that people" -- like Washingtonians -- "have to go across Delaware to get places, to extort money from them to pay for all their transportation expenses."

The $21 million raised by the toll increase will help fund both the bridge and Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

Where was all the uproar from you regarding this toll increase? Oh, that's right, it is Delaware.

well I'm quite sure the baybridge could go to $4 without to much outrage.
But from $2.50 to $8 is an outrage.
Delaware thanks you very much.
Since we only pay eastbound, wait till the #'s sttart coming in.
Baltimore will travel around
( probably just stay in RehoBch )
and then return over the bridge free westbound.
I'll bet anyone $1000. the numbers east vs. west will be much different with the $8 comming.

Any moron that wants to travel up north from baltimore and around would have to pay the susquehanna toll and the delaware tolls and drive a further distance. So let them. Although delaware residents will probably claim the few pennies saved at the gas station on peanuts and a soda thanks to no sales tax will justify the extra 50 miles of driving.

12:33, The toll is $4 each way in Delaware. That would be the same as $8 one way on the bay bridge. (you know 4 + 4). I will bet that nobody drives a hundred miles out of their way to save a few dollars.
