Chicken Festival Kicks Off In Delaware

Folks in southern Delaware are ready to pay homage once again to the Delmarva region's poultry industry.

The 62nd edition of the annual Delmarva Chicken Festival kicks off in Georgetown, with festivities scheduled throughout Friday and Saturday on the campus of Delmarva Christian High School.

The event, which began in Georgetown in 1948, offers arts and crafts, a home and trade show, musical entertainment, and, of course, the popular giant fry pan.

The festival is sponsored annually by Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. a trade group.

Organizers are expecting some 20,000 people for this year's event.

Admission is free.

This industry is at the heart of our economic wellness. Without it, the Lower Shore is doomed. Plan to help in some way. Poultry companies, do your part too. Stop hiring illegals, take better care of our world with less wasted and contaminated water, dead birds and feathers on our roadways, less runoff, and better treatment of the people who work for you. Hopefully, there can be a long term benefit for all! Have a great celebration!

"Stop hiring illegals" We went to the festival today. I was not impressed at all. I think the employees you mentioned were there listening to a band that catered to them. I would have thought there would be more people there. Maybe there were more there earlier today or will be more tonight. We got there about 4:30 and were gone by about 5pm
