WICOMICO COUNCIL DOES A DOUBLE BACK-FLIP FOR DEVELOPMENT

At yesterday’s meeting the Wicomico County Council rejected the request of the County Exec., Richard Pollitt, to increase the fees for various development review processes by the County. How ironic is that: Mr. Pollitt was Martin O’Malley’s campaign manager for Wicomico County. Has “Rick” forgotten his hero’s ad attacking Ehrlich that we heard over and over last year: “Hey, Bob, a fee is a tax.”

Hey, Rick, read our lips: NO NEW TAXES!

And the Council also voted to voice its opposition to O’Malley’s proposed ban of individual septic systems. Let’s hope that the likes of Conway and Cane, who almost always support O’Malley, hear the Council’s message loud and clear.

At long last we have a Council with enough stones to “just say NO” to the liberal agenda of Pollitt and O’Malley and their acolytes in groups like the Wicomico Environmental Trust. Let’s hope our representatives on the Council keep up their good work when it comes to that proposed new “Comprehensive Plan.”

At some point, we as a county will have to ask what services we no longer want. The county CAN'T afford to keep going the way it is. The county keeps growing, as shown by the census, yet the funding is curtailed by the revenue cap. That cap keeps the county from even offering the same level of service from year-to-year with a growing population.

So, if you want services, like making sure a new development doesn't create pollution that ruins the water source of nearby houses, you have to pay for it. If you want the county to assume the roads of a development, you have to pay for their upkeep.

Seems to me, the revenue cap supporters are the ones not facing reality - they want the same services, but for more people, for less and less money each year. Simple addition will tell you it won't work.

So, revenue cap supporters - what would YOU cut? And don't just say "waste and fraud!" Name the specific programs you would want cut, and by how much.

duck around - You have it all wrong. You are making this a lot more commplicated than it is.

This is what the majority of Wicomico Countians want.

They want a small unobstrusive form of government.

Less regulation + reduction in Goverment = Prosperity

Prosperity = More tax revenue(Reaganomics proved this)

Simple addition will tell you it will work - I just showed you.

You didn't answer the question. What services are you willing to cut? You can't keep current services + growing population - less money.

And Reaganomics proved just the opposite. It's an absolute myth that Reagan cut taxes throughout his administration. He did just the opposite. From Forbes.com: "Everyone remembers Reagan's 1981 tax cuts. His admirers are less likely to tout the tax hikes he accepted as the 1981 recession and his own tax cuts began to unravel his long-term fiscal picture--a large tax increase on business in 1982, higher payroll taxes enacted in 1983 and higher energy taxes in 1984."

And you still didn't say which services you want cut to get that smaller government you desire. So, what will it be? What gets cuts to get that smaller government? Something's gotta go. Name it.

As a lifelong residence of Wicomico County I'll tell you this much - this is the best County Council that I have seen in my entire lifetime.

It is refreshing to see this County Council take the taxpayers interest seriously - as opposed to caving-in to special interest. This has not happened in Wicomico County since the 1974 County Council - 37 years ago.

Get over it - there are still plenty of 'holes in the dam' that need to be plugged. This County Council has already set the coarse - I say stay with it.
