WASHINGTON — Is marriage becoming obsolete?
As families gather for Thanksgiving this year, nearly one in three American children is living with a parent who is divorced, separated or never-married. More people are accepting the view that wedding bells aren't needed to have a family.
A study by the Pew Research Center highlights rapidly changing notions of the American family. And the Census Bureau, too, is planning to incorporate broader definitions of family when measuring poverty, a shift caused partly by recent jumps in unmarried couples living together.

just look at the unwed birth rate among black mothers. i think thats a huge scue in the numbers. when we keep feeding them just so they can have more babies, its not going to stop. i think its up to 75% birth rate to unwed blacks now?

How are black mothers and gay people to blame for the institution of marriage falling apart? Gays for the most part can't get married, black mothers to a larger extent today aren't getting married. I would say marriage is falling apart because the people getting married don't stay married, because they are not happy with the institution of marriage. If women's liberation is to blame, think about what the state of marriage was before that, women were held in legal bondage to a man in an institution that didn't work for them. If women's lib set them free, you should ask, free from what? What role do the men play in all of this?

I wouldn't trade my marriage for anything. It's a choice in this free country and I choose marriage. Just another reason for society NOT to take responsiblity or make a committment.
I can see why the divorce rate is so high just watch how the 40 y/o gals act they sleep with men, women three somes it's crazy out there. Then they wonder why they're alone it's a sad state.
It's prevalent in black society and unfortunately, it has carried over into the white society. I'm not racist, but you know I'm right. If there's no legal bond, the baby daddy can just go on his way and the mother can collect welfare. If baby daddy is umemployed or in jail, you can't get blood out of a turnip. Everyone loses, especially the child and the taxpayers!
