No! especially not by a woman.

no. mr. barkley was doing a fine job and should have been made chief.

It's hard to say from the outside, but I think if you ask the officers in the dept, you'd get the best assessment.
But it looks to me like it wasn't broke, so I don't know why Ireton thought it needed to be fixed.

Chief Barkley is the best for the job.

WOMAN! Same feelings about chief Depino in ocean city. They got over it. The new chief is from new york...maybe she knows about gangs and crime. Give her a chance.
I like Ivan Barkley and think he did a great job. If the mayor hired this new chief we need to get behind her 100%.

the mayor and council must be idiots. they are forever hiring from the outside instead of promoting from within. talk about a morale killer, that will do it. oh well, ssdd. thanks sjd

great maybe she will bring some REAL cops from NY with her.

No; however, Chief Barkley is a class act and will welcome her. They will be an important team together and hopefully they can start ridding Salisbury of the trash.

Webster should have been enough proof that promoting with in is better than from the outside. Salisbury never learned their lesson I see.

as I said in another post, if they are not going to provide the resources to better the city, it won't happen! It doesn't matter where the chief is from or if the chiefs is male or female! It won't get done! I'm not sure who would want to work for SPD with the lack of resources to properly run it! Poor thing doesn't stand a chance!

no i dont, but wasnt his nomination rejected by the council? or was it rejected by the mayor? i thought it was reported that mayor ireton nominated mr. barkley and the council rejected the nomination?

Anonymous said...

Yes. Crime has not gotten better since he was put in charge. Not saying it was his fault but a new direction is needed.

Anonymous said...

No it was a no brainer. Liarton is making huge mistakes his political career is done.

Are you serious? It's not broken?
Have you followed the crime reports lately? Yes, it's broken and somebody needs to fix it NOW!
I'm all for bringing someone in from the outside if they have the experience and the DESIRE to fix things! No more good ole boy people!

LOL @ 12:19.....liarton! that's funny!
as much as i like mr barkley, maybe some fresh perspective is needed. let's give it a chance.

Not at all

Nope, he should have hired Ivan for the job. He's done more for the dept in his 10 months being in charge than Webster did in his whole career. That being said, I do believe we must stand by the person chosen for the job 100%, gender and state of orgin aside.

I think you people missed some of the reports last week, rumor has it Ireton did choose Barkley but was rejected by the council.

And cut out the sexism. This is the 21st century and women are just as capable as men. Did you not realize OCPD is run by a woman? She does a fine job. Get over your medieval mindset. Political affiliations aside, our VP was almost a woman, our Sec of State IS a woman, the Speaker of the House is a woman, and hopefully our next Lt. Gov will be a woman. Seriously people, just because you're anonymous doesn't give you the right to be blatantly ignorant.

Ireton didnt choose Barkley..it was Leatherbury that got rejected last week

@152pm
you say -
"Political affiliations aside, our VP was almost a woman, our Sec of State IS a woman, the Speaker of the House is a woman, and hopefully our next Lt. Gov will be a woman."

and then we wonder why our country is shot and only getting worse?

Anonymous said...

Yes! By Ernie Leatherbury Jr. S.B.

No. Ivan has the full support of the SPD personnel and more than qualified. This is just another slap in the face of our City's servants. The day will come when we can show Ireton the door and disrespect him.

Ireton is not going to do anything that makes sense. That has been proven. He is head idiot and will prove that over and over. Barkley, a LOCAL and EXPERIENCED Salisbury police officer should have remained in that position.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely not!

The town wanted him for Mayor, and you got him. Live with it. Maybe you wont make a stupid mistake next time....its not the Mayors fault. Its the ones that voted him into office. You got what you asked for.

I think Mayor Ireton was wrong not to keep Acting Chief Barkley. Major reason: Ireton broke his word. When he announced that Barkley was his choice for interim chief, he very enthusiastically--almost gushingly-- stated that Barkley could have the job "as long as he wanted it." (I think they were his exact words). Not to appoint him permanent chief speaks to Ireton's integrity.

Are you all kidding me?!! Some of you are showing what chovenistics (sp) oinkers you are displaying. If interem Chief Barkley was truly qualified for this job, he WOULD have been chosen. Yes, I'm aware how much people like him and he seems to be a very nice man and and how much his fellow police officers admire him, however, if he was truly qualified, during his tenure as Chief, we would have less crime in the city, not more. And I can't see anybody (City Councel or the Mayor) getting in his way to do the job he presented. I also don't agree with half of what the Mayor says and does, but having moving away from a some what crime area and the policing being inept, what Salisbury needs is a bulldog not a everybody like him (her) person.
By the way, maybe my son might not have been robbed at gunpoint by 3 people, one with a hand gun and one with a shot gun. Thank God my son gave them what they want and showed them there was no more to give before they ran.

Your right, but 8 1/2 months , less money , more furloughs don't benefit anyone either..especially if stopping crime was the mayors first priority

The crime in Salisbury & gangs have gotten worse under the watich of the entire SPD. They need leadership that is different and with large scale experiences to combat what has gotten out of hand. I say give her a chance and support to make a change. I wish her the best.
