Republican Primary -
Four Republicans are vying for the two slots to emerge from the GOP primary. Our choices – A. Kaye Kenney and Mike McDermott.
Kenney, a Wicomico farmer and small business owner, has served Wicomico County as a member of the Liquor Licensing Commission and on the Charter Review Committee. She has also been actively involved in making sure that the Wicomico County Liquor Control Board ceased using taxpayer funds for illegitimate purposes.
McDermott is a career law enforcement officer serving with the Worcester County Sheriff’s office. He also serves as the mayor of Pocomoke. Prior to becoming mayor, McDermott also managed his family’s poultry farm.
While both Kenney and McDermott may be slightly more moderate than those of us here at SbyNEWS, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Both will be strong fiscal conservatives if sent to Annapolis. Both will look out for the best interests of the citizens of District 38-B. Both share the common sense values we need in our legislators.
Democratic Primary -
Three Democrats are seeking their party’s nomination to represent 38-B. Incumbent delegate Norm Conway and Berlin mayor Gee Williams are the clear choices for 38-B Democrats.
Conway is the current House Appropriations Committee chairman. As such, he is in a position to deliver funding for projects here on the Lower Shore. Conway has a long record of service to the people of Salisbury, Wicomico County, and District 38.
Williams has served the people of Berlin and possesses above average name ID in Worcester County. This is needed if the Democrats are to retain both seats.
Both are staunch supporters of the O’Malley administration and have been able to dance on fine line between supporting left of center policies while not appearing too out of touch with constituents back home. This trait is key for Democrats who wish to succeed in Annapolis while being able to gain election in a district that is right-of-center.

I think you have made wise choices. A lot of people I'm talking to want to see A. Kaye and Norm in Annapolis. What a great pair they would be!!! It isn't about the party - but the people. With Norm's tenure and powerful position and A. Kaye's well-rounded experience, they would be a dynamite duo for District 38B.
Norm Conway certainly may be "in a position to deliver funding for projects here on the Lower Shore" but he has yet to do so. He is very adept, however, at delivering the goods for the union bosses on the Western Shore.
Thats a nice outfit, state colors and all.
5:51pm You are so wrong. Norm has delivered funding for many projects here on the Lower Shore. His record tells all.
The OC Elks, a community organization, is STILL waiting on permission to install a lousy 5 slots in their club which will increase their CHARITABLE contributions. This is not an issue for Wicomico as the Elks there already has their 5 legal slots. Why is this such a difficult task for Conway?
I thought Gee was a croook and your editorial endorses him?

These are PRIMARY endorsements. While we may not be thrilled with some of Gee Williams's record, he still should move to the next round.
When we post our endorsements for the general election I am pretty confident that you will see some Republicans and some Democrats. It just goes to show you that I don't have the final say on who we endorse here.
Personally, I would be surprised if Mr. Williams receives SbyNEWS's endorsement for the general. Mr. Conway might. You'll just have to wait until the end of October.
Nice letter to the editor for A. Kaye Kenney in today's Daily Times. It's written by a person I truly respect, Lew Riley. Looks like he knows Ms. Kenney and holds her in the highest respect. That's good enough for me, she has my vote, too.
Mike McDermott has an amazing balance of service to our community as well as leadership and government experience.
