Dennis Hopper Dies At Age 74

LOS ANGELES — Dennis Hopper, the high-flying Hollywood wild man whose memorable and erratic career included an early turn in "Rebel Without a Cause," an improbable smash with "Easy Rider" and a classic character role in "Blue Velvet," has died. He was 74.

Hopper died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice, surrounded by family and friends, family friend Alex Hitz said. Hopper's manager announced in October 2009 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The success of "Easy Rider," and the spectacular failure of his next film, "The Last Movie," fit the pattern for the talented but sometimes uncontrollable actor-director, who also had parts in such favorites as "Apocalypse Now" and "Hoosiers." He was a two-time Academy Award nominee, and in March 2010, was honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

So Cancer takes another soul. So sad, So sad. Wonderful rugged Actor, your screen presence will be missed.I remember him playing a crazed photojournalist in Francis Ford Coppola's harrowing Vietnam War drama."Apocalypse Now" (1979)

May he rest in peace....my favorite Dennis Hopper role was in an obscure little known 1987 movie,"Rivers Edge".One of his costars in that movie was none other than his future "Speed" costar, a very young actor then,Keanu Reeves.(theres a trivia question for your next party)
In "Rivers Edge", Hopper plays a pot dealing one-legged Vietnam Vet whose life partner is a blow-up doll(he actually refers to it as a person)because he doesnt trust people.
Among other little known movies he did was Texas Chainsaw Massacre II,in the early 80's.He played a tough as nails ex Texas Ranger hellbound on avenging the deaths of his niece and nephew at the hands of Leatherface.
And how can I forget his roles in George Romeros "Land of the Dead" or the epic box office bomb,"Waterworld". His career went way beyond the most popular films he did...even in so-called bad movies he was great.
Sorry to ramble but he was one of my favorite actors and will be missed.
