Question of the Day, Fri 6/27

Today is National HIV testing day. Have you ever been tested for HIV? Have you had a loved you die of such a disease?

Today is also "Decide to be married" Day. Are you happily married? How many years? Are you happily divorced?

Is it ironic that both HIV testing day and decide to be married day are on the same day?

Back in early 90's when we(the public)were just learning the horror of this disease (even though our gov. kept this under tabs for years)My husband & I divorced after 12 years and I began dating this one fellow, somewhat of a down home country boy.Well I made him go with me to the health dept. for us both to get tested. We were so embarassed we sat with our sun glasses on in the corner. He was scared to death,I think if he had the chance to take off he would have! But,we both got tested...and had to wait 3 WEEKS!!!! to find out the results! It was the longest 3 weeks in my life!Needless to say thank goodness,we were both negative. It was a good wake up call for both of us...it's scarey how folks now see AIDS: like the common cold....I'll never underestimate how deadly it is.

You only need to be tested if you are someone at risk for contracting AIDS. 96% of those who contract AIDS are male homosexual intravenus drug users.

I was tested several times after separating from my(cheating)husband! All negative but very scary...!
I am also happily divorced!! :)
On a more pleasant note, I am engaged to be married in September, so I guess I've experienced all three. Cherish each day with the ones you love and rid yourself of those who threaten your happiness!

I was tested during my last pregnancy (about a year ago). The doc said it was standard. Not sure if it was standard for just her or everyone. But I guess they need to know if you have HIV because of what it can do to the baby.

I lived in Hollywood for 12 years and do know 6 people who have died from Aids. All but two were gay, the others into drugs. When it was first recognized in the 80's it was a death sentence. Now with the 'cocktail' of drugs that is available people live many many years with it. I know two people who have lived 20 years with it now. I may even know more as people don't talk about it as much as they used to because of the treatments available.
What I find really disturbing is that here on the shore, because people think that it is only a gay disease the numbers of people with HIV are out of control.
Stupid uneducated teenagers are having sex and not considering it sex.
Teens (ever since Bill Clinton) do not believe that oral sex is sex.
Because of our puritanical roots, being gay is not only really looked down upon but it is kept in the closet and according to my young adult children and their friends there are quite a bit of young men and women who are gay and living as straight.
They are in heterosexual relationships some even with kids and are having extramarital affairs with gay partners. These are people that are raising the #'s of cases. They are living in denial, not telling their partners, and when things don't work out are leaving and taking the disease with them many times without even knowing.
Unfortunately, this is even more prevelant in the black community than it is in the white. Being a black gay man is even harder to admit than being a white gay man.
People have got to come to grips with who they are, and live with it RESPONSIBLY!

I was tested for HIV both times I was pregnant. Also tested when I meet my hubby - we both went to make sure we were "clean" before...you know....

Decide to be Married - Yes I am married, will be 6 years in Sept. happily - yes, content - yes. If I could do it all over - we would have went to the court house - the hassle of a big wedding wasn't worth it.

I was tested because of my cheating husband screwing everything that had a twat! It came out negative! I am happily divorced from the "son of satan" now and have been happily married for 4 years to the first person who ever loved me back as much as I love him! Life is good!

Happily in love wife

The son of a friend of mine contracted HIV/AIDS after receiving a blood transfusion in a local hospital. He was in a serious motorcycle accident in the mid/late 80's. I guess they hadn't decided the cost of testing blood was worth saving lives. He passed away a few years back. He was not gay, was not on any kind of drugs. He was the victim of a stupid driver and the blood given him at the hospital. He was the victim of the hipocricy of the bureaucracy that decided it would be to expensive for the Red Cross, hospitals and blood banks to test blood before using it on other innocent, unsuspecting victims of their negligence.

Money killed him.

Married for 22 years, my first, her second. Her kids all married twice.

I don't believe in divorce. I believe in polygamy, though. 8)
I have been faithful since day one. But I'm tired of being faithful to one woman; I wanna be faithful to lots of wives!

The only HIV test I had was when I was pregnant. I was relieved but not surprised it came back negative.

I am married and very happy. We have been together for years and after having a daughter, living together for 3 years and buying a home together, did I decide I was ready to get married. I was really already living like I was but we just made it legal on paper.

This year will be our 4th anniversary, but our 11th year together.

Love ya babe! (He is a reader of this blog too)

Been tested for HIV a number of times, standard operating procedure for a number of doctors. Clean every time. Had a cheating husband for awhile, could have contracted who knows what with that alley cat, but luckily did not. I have known a number of people with AIDS (not all gay or drug users, some just innocent victims of cheating partners), a few died, some are still living with it. In a happy, healthy relationship now for over 8 years.

Cruggly,

In my past life in the Wood, I was a hair stylist, being around a lot of gay guys just comes with the territory.

Don't be hatin!
