Can Everyone Help Ben?????

I was wondering if you could suggest a place to go swimming. With the "crap" in the river that is eliminated and years ago I was told by my doctor not to swim at Schumaker because I had a severe skin infection he believed came from the the "still" water. My best friend and her kids are coming down and to avoid the cost of Ocean City or the National Park (love them dearly though) We are planning on going to Raccoon Point by Princess Anne I just wanted to know if anything was closer. Can't afford or really think it's a wise idea to have a pool so I thought I would ask the question. My neighbors have no ideas. Thanks for reading this and I hope it finds you and the "staff" very well

Ben

May be to far, but Killens pond water park in Harrington De has a great swim park for adults and kids. Last time I was there it was 2.00 per person. http://www.destateparks.com/kpsp/watrpark.htm

Just checked the site, it is still two bucks.

Ben. We have a pool (and a pond). The pond would be good for you. (Sorry...couldn't pass up the yawning net on that one). Seriously, stick to well chlorinated pools in this neck of the woods-mosquitos will be less bothersome there anyway. Good luck.

Cherry Beach in Sharptown on the Nanticoke River. It has its own designated swimming area, a picnic pavilion, & 2 playgrounds for the kids. No 'sketters or flies!! Very quiet & enjoyable.

There is always free parking available everytime I go to OC. Pack a cooler and you're set. If your friends are from out of town, dont let them miss out on the best part of the shore.

Could you please tell me WHERE the free parking in OC is? I must be an idiot cuz I'm always stuck paying $$ at the Inlet!

May be further than you want to travel but Public Landing just past Snow Hill. i recommend wearing some sort of shoes as there are a few crabs and such but the water is pretty shallow ( about 3 ft) just off the pier. last time I was down there there was even a small slide.

National park at Assateague is 10 bucks for a 7 day pass that can be used as many times as possible in that week. Thats a bargain if you ask me. Sure the price of fuel to get there is high but it would be to go to any of the other places suggested. Assateague blows away OC beach wise and you can take beer there! Avoid the state park with all the trappings of concession stands and pack a cooler. You wont regret it I never have.

in OC, generally there is free on street parking north of about 30th street. Much free on street parking from 65-85 and north of 120.

It is time for the county (Wicomico) to build a county pool. We need one to teach our children how to swim. It is simply irresponsible for an area this size to not have a county run indoor pool. Ask the Y how full they are. Ask SU how full they are.

BTW.. thanks Mr. Mackeys for
returning my phone calls, emails, and letters in this reguard. Your such a great public servant [/sarcasm]

TO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP Assateague IS NOW 15 $ FOR A WEEKLY PASS AND 30 FOR A SEASONAL PASS // PRICES HAVE GONE UP BUT ITS STILL WORTH IT // NOT TO MENTION THEY ARE BUILDING NEW PARKING LOTS AND BATH HOUSES // I HOPE THIS IS FOR THE BETTER //

with all due respect to anon 3:41, I live pretty close to Cherry Beach, and would not take my kids to swim there. I've heard of more than one drowning there in (recent) past years.

8:05 The drownings are usually DRUNKS that shouldn't be there after the park closes at dusk!!!! Trust me I am one of the people that have gone to find & pull them out. Cherry Beach is a nice place, I grew up there on the Nanticoke River. The Cove in Nanticoke is also nice...Just stay away from the Wicomico River.

Shad Landing between Snow Hill and Pocomoke on Route 113 has a huge pool in the park.
There is a small fee, but it is usually clean and well guarded.

DO NOT GO TO THE COVE IN BIVALVE. THERE ARE TONS OF SNAKES DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF DAY. THE BLACK SNAKES ARE VERY AGGRESSIVE.
