Breaking News! Massive Fire in Ocean City
Joe is on the Scene now of a major fire in Ocean City. I'm told it's very near Trimpers and that every fire company from Bishopville to Pittsville has been called in. I just heard the Parsonsburg siren but they may have been toned out to cover another jurisdiction.....I don't know. Joe will have pictures soon. Wish them all well!

the fire started in the upstairs apartment over the t shirt shop between the dough roller and marty's playland according to a cook from the dough roller that was near tears in the parking lot. as my son and i came out of sunset grill from brunch we noticed the smoke and arrived downtown as the first firetrucks were arriving. one hour later the smoke was still a rolling black cloud and we noticed fire trucks responding from as far away as rehobeth and millsboro. the dough roller building was consumed as were the apartments above and part of the martys playland apartments. i understand everyone got out okay. what a tremendous loss for billy gibbs and his partner. cindy jester
Congrats on scooping the Tilghman Times yet again...NOTHING on their website about a fire in OC at all...nice job!

WBOC has video of the fire and from that video it looks like Dough Rollers is the business on fire.

Heard it started at Dough Roller, and might be a grease fire. Some say Playland might have been destroyed, along with Daytons and some T-Shirt joint.
I understand that it's Dough Roller on the Bkwk. near Worcester.
Well I'm sure we'll hear about the overkill on how much equipment was sent out to this fire. Don't they know they should send one truck and then call for more as needed...yada yada yada Poor OC firemen they'll never hear the end of this one. Good thing is Hebron and Sby won't have to hear about it for a change.

Only Hebron and Salisbury THINK their fires are the biggest and most important and must bring out all the guns to put one out.
Obviously YOU weren't at the OC Fire but I personally wish you were, so you could see what responsible fire fighting is all about.
Thanks Joe for your understanding and coverage. There were two adjoining buildings, plus two other exposures saved, a lot of equipment and personel, you can send them back, but sucks to need them and wait.
good pics of the fire. Good job to all. However I can't resist though. This is the reason why the vol. assistant chiefs need more training and updated training. Come on, I never heard more screaming on the radio in my life mr. oic. Sounded like a cluster. No one could even understand you on the radio chief. Plus by the pics it seemed like no command post was really established. Look in the fire officer books sometime. Not trying to bash and quaterback the call cause I only listened to it but I guess its still standing. Good job black helmets for that looked like agressive fire attack to the front I would assume by the pics.

It was definitely not a grease fire - all of the restaurant's grills and ovens are in the front corner of the restaurant - where the boardwalk meets the side street. The restaurant wasn't even on fire first, the shirt shop went up before the fire blew through the restaurant.
Assistant chiefs eh? The OIC has more experience than any of the "BLACK HELMETS". Where were the off duty fire/ems guys that live in oc? no where because they weren't getting paid. And i could not help notice that when everyting was being picked up, there wre about 15 black oc fire/ems guys sitting down next to engine 16 while all the other companies assisted each other in repacking all equipment. Good class guys show your true colors.

hey 12:49 there is a difference in being in the fire dept for a long period of time and being experienced with fire ground operations as an oic. He is very experienced but come on anyone can run a fire alarm activation. oh the black helmets were exhausted after pulling lines actually in the building. what do you expect? cant put the fire out and clean up at the same time. plus I doubt he has more experience than all the black helmets there. plus they have alot longer resume of qualifications.
12:49 there were 8 paid people there, 1 came in, and yes filled out an overtime slip. The picture in form of E-16 tells the story, 3 were not paid would you like the names? Why do you expect us not to get paid for a job we do everyday, don't you?
Some of those are men who are chiefs in other volunteer companies. One came as a volunteer doing his duty he took an oath to others who were chiefs came in and filled out his overtime slip. Know where there head is $$$$

2:27 if your also a volunteer who was dispatched why would you fill out an over time slip? Its like saying im only gonna go help someone as long as im getting paid. Little Selfish?

If you want to play that game, either are three of your four chiefs. Nearly all of the paid firemen are volunteers elsewhere. Most are officers in districts which run far more fires and MVC's than OC.
