It Looks Like No Division Is Back!

Plastered mainly in the Downtown Plaza area were the signs of the old "No Division" tagger. Most of his work was done at the Old Mall but now that it has been blocked off it looks like they're concentrating on the Plaza area now.

This wanna be tagger uses shipping labels that he sticks to the back of signs and so forth where most people can't see them anyway, LOL, Idiot! More than likely the other Taggers are laughing their a**es off at this guy because he's so afraid of getting caught.

Well, IMO, he should be afraid because since the Police have stepped it up several notches Downtown, none of this is going to continue much longer. Game Over!

I was wonderin' if'n the downtown taggers might not be followers of our li'l buddy NoDivision.

Ya didn't perhaps ask the youngster on wheels if'n he knew anythin', didya? Some o' these taggers are also "gamers," "skaters," and such. So's I been readin', anyhoo.

Wheat Pasting & Stenciling
Actually No DIvision comes from a different breed of taggers. Unlike the sprayers, he predominantly uses "wheat pasting" & stenciling. Both have become a big thing in the graffiti culture over the past decade. Their work is very quick and easy to apply, and is more interested in the more subliminal approach. They usually aren't too big, but when they are, they usually deface billboards in broad day light. SCARY. Many are quite educated individuals and SHOULD know better.
Note the sticker on the backside of the sign (fifth photo down). The one on the right is a world famous "OBEY" symbol and was created by Frank Shepard Fairey. A celebrity and practically creator of this form of tagging. Shepard graduated from RISD in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration and has founded multiple design firms. The latest of wich is "Studio Number One" in 2003. I am surprised it's taken this long before an "OBEY" sticker has shown up in the 'Bury.
If my sources are correct, like Shepard, No Division also has gone to Art college and has earned awards for his legal works. I also understand that the police already have some kind of contact to reach him.
The worst thing about this kind of tagger is the speed and ease of application. In many cases, the "artist" posts these stickers & stencils (like the "OBEY" image) on the net for people around to globe to use in their own cities.
Shepard's own web site is rather in your face about his "propaganda engineering" (his words, not mine). His most recent material he offers for people to download is his recent anti-bush and anti-war campaign stickers & posters.

Those lil stickers are real quick to apply. Just "Smack" and it's done.

I'd be looking real close at anyone walking by a sign with those new "big Brother" cameras.

If anyone is interested, a good samaritan could remove most stickers without leaving a trace with "Oops", "Easy Off", or any adhesive remover that can even be purchased in Mal-Mart.

If all this graffiti keeps mounting without being cleaned up - the task could get so out of control that even a volunteer group my not want to take it on.

And what the hell is your excuse, Mr. I volunteer and recovery?

WOW!! I was merely giving a suggestion. No need for the personal attack.

FYI - I got my "Ooops" adhesive remover sitting right here next to me.

Funny you should say that though - I don't see solutions on your blog, but I know "SOMEONE ELSE" has been quite busy putting solutions on theirs.

No personal attack. We're a bit on edge today, eh? I'm simply saying, you've got the answers, why would YOU expect everyone else to go out there and clean it up while you regret all you have done in the past?

I think it's great you're offering solutions. I would have simply liked to have heard, I used this recently on the graffiti I saw and it worked great, for future reference.

Oh, by the way, I have been on the streets both day and night with dozens of Officers for several days now. Believe me, I'm doing my part, unlike those who are sitting there bitching and complaining and not being a part of the solution. Do also note, I'm not complaining there isn't more help. It's kind of hard to read messages where others have the verbal solutions yet they're not participating with the solution.

Time to walk the walk.

I can agree with that. Also I don't doubt you are quite involved. As you know so have I been with this issue.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on cleaning up graffiti. I have indeed used the "oops" to remove a couple decals, that's how I know it works. It was my hope to make it out today and remove some in the downtown area. But the weather is not in my favor.

Now my only fear after posting this, is that little camera of yours. I'd be glad to remove some of the decals if you don't take pics of me doing so. I promise not to do anything illegal - lol.

I'll make a deal with you. You can either join me in cleaning those "stickers" up or I will give you my word publicly that "if" I see you out and about and you are in fact removing those stickers, I will NOT post your picture "anywhere." You have my word on that.

Sounds great. If I can refrain from reading your posts and researching on the Graffiti issues of the world, I should be able to manage some free time later this week.

Email me about when is a good time for you and I would be glad to go with you. It would be helpful as I am sure you know where all the stuff is.

BTW - I have also found that plain Rubbing alcohol works great on permanent marker.Especially on smooth surfaces.

WARNING ABOUT "OOPS" AND ADHESIVE REMOVER
Start off in a small surface area to insure that the paint you want to remain will not rub off as well. Same with clear plastics as it may actually "eat" some plastics. That alone should demonstrate the need for gloves when handling. Although I rarely do. But hey - it's my skin.

Wait a sec! By "No Division stated months ago", do you mean he posted? He's a blog reader?

That would be interesting indeed.

joe albero said...

Oh, do entertain me further. Tell me why this would be indeed interesting to you?

G®@pHiX said...

Dunno, just find it interesting that he had actually interacted with people. I know — not as entertaining as you'd have hoped. But here's an idea that may be...

...since your the first willing to help me with cleaning up some graffiti, you'll get first dibs fer space on the legal wall of graffiti. HEHE! in fear of what you might put up, me thinks we shouldn't be surprised if the city has EVERYTHING cleaned up by tomorrow morn!

Actually, those are all REALLY old stickers... like at least a year old...

Nobody is "back"... quite the contrary in fact. And certainly not in the "hottest city to paint in america". I live many hours away, have for a while now...

Slack by the way, whoever he/she/it is, is a toy... a toy with some balls! but his hand is beat.

G®@pHiX said...

I guess it wouldn't make much sense for to drive couple hours, throw up some stickers and then head back. Slak is certainly no jpf
