A 52-year-old black man is being charged with destruction of property after allegedly getting caught spray-painting a swastika inside campus living quarters, according to Fox5.
Officials for the school discovered the swastika on a trash cart inside the fifth floor of Hagerstown Hall.
One student, apparently bewildered by the news, didn’t seem to recognize the possibility of Ronald Alford Sr.’s artwork being an attempt to stage anti-Semitic sentiment at the college.

US immigration population hits record 60 million, 1-of-5 in nation
A huge boom in immigration, legal and illegal, over the past 16 years has jumped the immigrant population to over 43 million in the United States, according to a new report.
And when their U.S.-born children are added, the number grows to over 60 million, making the immigrant community nearly one-fifth of the nation's population, according to federal statistics reviewed by the Center for Immigration Studies.
Steven Camarota, the Center's director of research and co-author of the report, said, "The enormous number of immigrants already in the country coupled with the settlement of well over a million newcomers each year has a profound impact on American society, including on workers, schools, infrastructure, hospitals and the environment. The nation needs a serious debate about whether continuing this level of immigration makes sense."

ICE Deports Criminal Alien after 3-Year Manslaughter Sentence
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers deported a criminal alien following the completion of his sentence for killing a man in North Carolina.
Bonifacio Cano-Perez, 34, an illegal alien from Mexico, struck 72-year-old Kenneth Hoffman while driving a Ford work van in the parking lot of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. The blow threw Hoffman into the air. Cano-Perez ran over him again and dragged the elderly man about 12 feet before the van came to a stop, the Statesville Record and Landmark reported in April 2016. Witnesses said the Mexican national did not stop until bystanders yelled at him. Cano-Perez had no driver’s license and has a history of vehicle crashes.
An Iredell County Superior Court judge handed down a 16 to 29-month prison sentence following the conviction on charges of involuntary manslaughter. The sentence appears to be the maximum allowed by North Carolina law at the time of the offense.

The government will dole out nearly 2 million work permits this year to immigrants who for the most part came to the country illegally or have some other tentative status, but who have been granted a foothold in the U.S. thanks to a loose immigration policy, according to statistics released last week.
Almost all of those permits are discretionary, meaning the government could deny them if officials choose.
Meanwhile, the country’s main technology guest-worker program has essentially become a pipeline for Indians to gain a foothold in the U.S. job market, according to the statistics, which show that people from India filed nearly 75 percent of all applications this year for H-1B worker petitions, the main high-skilled guest-worker program.
The statistics were released as part of President Trump’s commitment to more transparency in the immigration system, under the terms of his April “Buy American and Hire American” executive order, and are giving researchers new insights into how the legal immigration system affects the job market.
The most striking data set involves employment authorization documents, or EADs, which are the work permits the Homeland Security Department gives to asylum seekers, refugees, certain foreign students and others — including those who qualified for the Obama-era DACA deportation amnesty for so-called Dreamers — who are in the country under something other than the traditional employment-based visa system.

Iran Vows to ‘Follow N. Korea’ Nuke Pathway After Deal Decertification
Senior Iran leaders praised the North Korean regime this weekend and claimed the Islamic Republic is encouraged to follow Pyongyang's nuclear pathway following the Trump administration's decision last week to decertify Iranian compliance with the landmark nuclear agreement.

PBS Airs Anti-Pruitt Documentary Funded By Environmentalist Group Backer
A new PBS Frontline documentary that paints Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt as a tool for the fossil fuel industry received major funding from a group that has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to environmentalist activists like the Sierra Club.
The documentary, "War on the EPA," received major support from the Kendeda Fund, an Atlanta-based nonprofit focused on the environment and sustainability.
The documentary features interviews with numerous Obama administration backers, including Gina McCarthy, the former EPA administrator, and Betsy Southerland, a former EPA director making $250,000 who claimed earlier this year she resigned in protest because of the Trump administration's budget. Southerland was eligible for early retirement and told coworkers she was retiring because of family issues.
Southerland tells PBS that Pruitt's EPA is a "clear and present danger to public health and safety in this country."

Pentagon May Ground F-35
The F-35, once touted as the world's most promising combat jet fighter, is so plagued with massive cost-overruns and poor design that the best thing to do is scrap efforts to make more than 100 of them fully ready for combat, according to the Pentagon's new chief of the program.
Vice Adm. Mathias W. Winter said the Defense Department is considering "leaving 108" F-35s in "their current state" because the Pentagon cannot afford to spend the money to fix the planes, the National Interest reported Monday.
"In total, Congress has authorized — and the Pentagon has spent — nearly $40 billion purchasing approximately 189 F-35s that, in their current configuration, will never be able to perform the way they were expected to when taxpayer dollars were used to buy them," wrote Dan Glazier, a retired Marine Corps captain and expert on the F-35 with the Project on Government Oversight.

State Dept. Claims it Has No Records of its Travel Loans to Refugees
In response to a Judicial Watch lawsuit, the State Department claims in a legal document that it has no records involving refugee travel loans that the agency gives foreigners overseas to buy plane tickets to fly to the United States. The program is operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an intergovernmental group that assists refugees worldwide with hundreds of millions of dollars from Uncle Sam. The money is channeled through the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM). In fiscal year 2016 the State Department gave IOM $477,257,564, according to the agency’s report on contributions to international organizations. That doesn’t even include millions more that the State Department gives the IOM for special refugee resettlement “platforms” that pop up throughout the year.
On its website the IOM writes that it provides interest-free loans “furnished by the Department of State” to “all refugees arriving in the United States:” Judicial Watch launched an investigation into the refugee loan program and filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the State Department last year to uncover details. In the request Judicial Watch asked for all records from 2010 to 2016 reflecting the number of Refugee Travel Loans furnished by the State Department’s PRM to the IOM per year, the number of travel loans that are defaulted upon per year and the amount of money written off per defaulted loan. The State Department failed to respond to the FOIA request by the federally-mandated deadline and Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit earlier this year.

NBC is tentatively standing by its embattled news president, Noah Oppenheim, who killed its long-gestating investigation into scandalized producer Harvey Weinstein. Oppenheim, who’s denied any ties to Weinstein, is now facing allegations that he sat at the same table as Weinstein at a glamorous New York gala in April. It's a tense situation in the halls of 30 Rockefeller Plaza which could give credence to President Trump’s recent claim that NBC News is “dishonest.”

118 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty last year in the United States, the FBI reported on Monday.
That was up 37 percent from the 86 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2015.
In 2016, 66 of the 118 deaths of law enforcement officers were felonious and 52 were accidental. In 2015, 41 of the 86 deaths of law enforcement officers were felonious and 45 were accidental.
Another 57,180 officers were assaulted in the line of duty in 2016, and 16,535 (or about 29 percent) sustained injuries from that assault.
"All of these numbers increased from figures reported in 2015, when 45 officers died accidentally and 41 were feloniously killed in the line of duty," the FBI said. A total of 50,212 assaults were reported in 2015.
Of the 66 officers killed by criminal acts in 2016:
--62 of the 66 were killed by firearms;
--51 were wearing body armor at the time they were killed;
-- 4 were killed intentionally with vehicles;
-- 17 were killed in ambushes, 13 were killed answering disturbance calls, and 9 were killed investigating suspicious people or circumstances.
