If you do nothing else today, watch this video.
It is excellent clean comedy. Priceless!!!

Federal Health Decision Expected To Affect 10K Maryland Residents

About 10,000 Maryland residents will be affected by the federal government’s decision to delay by a year new rules that require employers to offer health insurance.

About 5,000 people who would have been able to get insurance through their employer beginning in January, when the so-called employer mandate was supposed to take effect, will likely turn instead to the state’s individual health exchange, according to the Governor’s Office of Health Care Reform. An additional 5,000 people will be uninsured as a result of the White House decision July 2 that would push back until January 2015 the key provision of the federal Affordable Care Act that requires companies with at least 50 employees to offer affordable health insurance or pay a penalty.

The rule was originally scheduled to go into effect in January 2014, in concert with other key pieces of the law, such as the requirement that most individuals purchase insurance, called the individual mandate.

Ruthless Mexican Drug Cartel Recruiting In The U.S.

A Mexican drug cartel known for kidnapping random civilians and beheading its rivals has expanded its operations into the U.S.

The gang known as Los Zetas is recruiting U.S. prison and street gangs, and non-Mexicans, for its drug trafficking and support operations in Mexico and the U.S.

An FBI intelligence bulletin notes that “multiple sources” reported the shift in Los Zetas recruiting. The cartel sought to maintain a highly disciplined and structured hierarchy by recruiting members with specialized training, such as former military and law enforcement officers.

Fixing Up Seniors' Homes To Help Them Age In Place

Alberta Hough struggles to feed herself a snack, her arms shaking badly from Parkinson's disease. Days earlier, the 84-year-old fell while eating, sliding off her kitchen chair.

The rest of Hough's day isn't much easier to navigate. She wobbles into a bathtub with no grab bar. Her feet catch on damaged floor tiles. Part of the banister she needs to steady herself on the stairs has pulled out of the wall. At the back door, a rickety wooden ramp no longer supports the scooter that helps her get around.

The environment in which you live can be as disabling as a disease, and too often, older Americans wind up in a nursing home not because they're super-sick but because they can't get through their days safely at home.

America's Oldest Drive-In Theater

As the oldest continually operating drive-in movie theater in the U.S., Shankweiler's in Orefield, Pa., remains a beacon of summer fun and a working monument to the bygone American pastime of watching movies from cars.

The speaker poles are still standing at Shankweiler's Drive-in Theatre in Orefield, Pa., now in its 80th consecutive season. But there's no sound piped through them: no tinny, ringing dialogue, like so many announcements droning out of a high school public address system. That ended long ago — in the 1980s — when drive-ins started broadcasting audio over AM radio frequencies.

Then came crisper FM stereo broadcasts, something Shankweiler's pioneered in 1986 when co-owner Paul Geissinger built the first such broadcast unit for use in a drive-in. That audio is still coming across FM, but now it's from digital files. And after a major renovation this past year, the oldest continually operating drive-in theater in America has been stripped of its analog past and boasts all-digital projection and sound.

The speaker poles are still there, though. They show you where to park, since the lines painted across the field have worn thin over time.

An industry pioneer, a national institution
Shankweiler's isn't the only drive-in theater still operating in the United States, but its history encompasses the industry it helped pioneer. It was there in the beginning, opening in 1934, just a year after the first drive-in, the appropriately named Drive-In Theatre in Camden, N.J.

Shankweiler's Auto Park, as it was then called, was the nation's second. By the end of the 1930s, there were 18 drive-ins across the country, most on the East Coast, with a third clustered in New England. And while the post-war years of the '40s saw a spike in automotive movie-going, with the total number of drive-in theaters rocketing to some 820 sites, it was the onset of full-blown American car culture that made them a national institution.

By the end of the 1950s, there were nearly 5,000 drive-ins — more than one-third of the number of indoor movie theaters in the country at the time. Theater size ballooned, too. There were drive-ins in Texas and Michigan that accommodated 3,000 cars, and it was common for new facilities to open with space for 1,000 or more vehicles.

Syphilis Cases Rising In Detroit, Driven By Young Men In Their 20s

Facing an alarming surge in syphilis cases, Detroit and state health authorities are launching a campaign alerting the public about the sexually transmitted disease that they say is making a comeback among a much younger crowd than in previous years.

“One of the things we’re learning is that with adolescents and young adults — they’ve not seen it, not experienced it, and they’re not seeing the early signs and symptoms,” said Karen Krzanowski, manager of the sexually transmitted disease section of the Michigan Department of Community Health.

“Many times, these things are cyclical,” said Loretta Davis, president and CEO of the Detroit Institute for Population Health,. “There’s ... prevention fatigue.”

Cut Off US Aid To Egypt? It's Not Just A Good Idea, It's The Law

There has been a military coup in Egypt, overthrowing the democratically elected President.

By law, the U.S. must cut off aid to Egypt until a democratically elected government has taken office.

Here's the relevant law, from the webpage of Senator Patrick Leahy:
Coups d'Etat

Sec. 7008. None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available pursuant to titles III through VI of this Act shall be obligated or expended to finance directly any assistance to the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup d'etat or decree or, after the date of enactment of this Act, a coup d'etat or decree in which the military plays a decisive role: Provided, That assistance may be resumed to such government if the President determines and certifies to the Committees on Appropriations that subsequent to the termination of assistance a democratically elected government has taken office: Provided further, That the provisions of this section shall not apply to assistance to promote democratic elections or public participation in democratic processes: Provided further, That funds made available pursuant to the previous provisos shall be subject to the regular notification procedures of the Committees on Appropriations.

Stoplight: A Walk For The President

Do Walmart, Target And Home Depot Hurt The Economy?

Controversy around big-box stores like Walmart, Target, Lowes and Home Depot is nothing new, but communities are getting smarter about tackling these corporate giants — sometimes against considerable odds. In Cape Cod and a handful of other areas across the country, the Economic Impact Review is becoming a vital tool for handling development disputes and related issues. The review forces a detailed, thoughtful conversation on the true local economic impact of big-box construction. The result, reports Stacy Mitchell at Grist, can be empowering.

You might think opposition to big-box stores is limited to chichi communities with decided ideas about their look, feel, and “character” as evidenced in communities like California’s Sonoma, which has a long history of very rigid restrictions on development. It turns out, opposition to these stores is about more than whether they look attractive or preserve the historic heritage of a community. Many people are legitimately concerned about the local economy, and unfortunately, development review meetings commonly exclude this vital factor from the conversation.

Chicago: More Black Mob Violence. More Denial

Now the cops in Chicago are getting pissed off that the media is ignoring black mob violence downtown.

I received an email from a Chicago cop saying so.

This from the Great Blog: Second City Cop:
If the media doesn’t cover it, did it actually happen?
The fireworks downtown were a complete disaster again tonight, but I’m sure we’ll all hear about what a smashing success it was tomorrow morning. The terrorists were running around in large packs with multiple citizens relating that these cannibals were throwing M80′s at the good citizens that were actually willing to spend their hard earned money in crime ridden Chicago. Not only were the groups throwing explosives at people, but it wouldn’t be a weekend in downtown Chicago unless they conveniently renowned iphone and handbags from their owners. My favorite part of the evening was when a sergeant asked the officers stationed at the Oak Street Beach entrance at Michigan avenue to push back the group to prevent then from reaching the beach, the officer calmly stated “there’s only me and one other officer, so I don’t think that’s happening.” What a circus.
If it was a circus, more people would be laughing. Here, the clowns are in charge, not the ringmaster.

Intenstive Care Doctor Beats Restrained Patient For Insulting Him

A major twist to the story. Apparently the patient was a former police officer who was convicted on rape charges - he raped this doctor's 10 year old girl with other men being involved too. The patient immediately recognized the doctor and started to tell him in details how he raped his daughter, cursing him and his daughter for his "ruined" career. ".............He started to insult the vile words my daughter, telling how he raped her" More

More Gun Lies From Gabby Giffords

Gabby Giffords and her still-weightless astronaut husband are like a gun-grabbing Foghat, eternally playing the state fair circuit of American politics. Now they are literally going on tour again, hoping that their audience will forgo the old favorites and welcome a track off their new album.

She’s really just a one-hit wonder hoping to match the airplay of her power ballad “I Suffered a Tragedy So I Have Special Moral Standing (To Advocate Stripping You of Your Fundamental Rights).” The sad truth is that she is the Psy of liberal advocacy, far past her 15 minutes yet valiantly trying to recapture the glory of her gun control Gangnam Style.

Her new tune is apparently entitled “Patriot” because her latest op-ed uses some form of that term four times in about 750 words. I guess it’s now “patriotic” to want to impinge on the constitutional rights of fellow Americans. She doesn’t explain why.
