United Arab Emirates Gives $5M to Joplin Hospital

 Joplin is getting another big boost from the Middle East as the Missouri city rebuilds and prepares for the anniversary of a devastating tornado that killed 161 people.

United Arab Emirates Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba was in Joplin Friday to announce that the oil-rich Persian Gulf nation is donating $5 million to Mercy Hospital for a pediatric section and the development of a neonatal intensive care unit, a first for the Joplin hospital.

Mercy was one of the most prominent of 8,000 buildings destroyed in the May 22 twister. The towering structure was left little more than a shell after the EF-5 tornado cut a wide swath through the southwest Missouri community. The hospital was knocked 4 inches off its foundation. Every window was blown out. Several people inside were killed or injured.

Obama's Literary Agent in 1991 Booklet: 'Born In Kenya And Raised In Indonesia And Hawaii'

Breitbart News has obtained a promotional booklet produced in 1991 by Barack Obama's then-literary agency, Acton & Dystel, which touts Obama as "born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii."

The booklet, which was distributed to "business colleagues" in the publishing industry, includes a brief biography of Obama among the biographies of eighty-nine other authors represented by Acton & Dystel.

It also promotes Obama's anticipated first book, Journeys in Black and White--which Obama abandoned, later publishing Dreams from My Father instead.

Millsboro- The Delaware State Police Sussex County Drug Unit, with the assistance of the Sussex County Governors Task Force, as well as the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at a Millsboro residence following a several month long investigation into illegal drug sales in the area.

On Friday, May 18th, members of the State Police Sussex County Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a home located in the 200 block of Long Neck Circle in the development of The Pines of Long Neck. Two residents of the home, Theresa Tolomeo and Vincent Tolomeo, as well as John J. Ford were taken into custody at the residence. During the search of the home, detectives located approximately 20 mg. of heroin packaged for sale, (2) Oxycodone 30 mg. pills, (8) Endocet 10 mg. pills, (81) Oxycodone 10 mg. pills, (4) Alprazolam 1 mg. pill, (44) Oxycodone 5 mg. pills, (1) Tramadol 50 mg. pill, and approximately $49,000.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Theresa Tolomeo, Vincent Tolomeo, and John J. Ford were arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. Theresa Tolomeo was arraigned and released on $3000.00 unsecured bail. John Ford was arraigned and released on $750.00 unsecured. Vincent Tolomeo was arraigned and then committed to the Department of Corrections after failing to post $36,000.00 secured bail.

The relationship between Vincent and Theresa Tolomeo is unknown.

CHARGES: Multiple Counts of Theft, Theft Scheme

NARRATIVE: Over the course of the past five months, Detectives from the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation have been conducting multiple investigations into the activities of Meggin Lynn McKnight, the former director of the Ocean City Humane Society.

In February, 2012, the Ocean City Humane Society reported that someone had been removing nominal amounts cash from a cash box in the office. Through a covert investigation, Meggin McKnight was identified as the person responsible and was charged with four counts of Theft less that $100 and Theft Scheme under $1000.

In the second case, a fund raiser was held at the “Crab Alley” restaurant in West Ocean City. The benefit raised approximately $230.00 as well as various supplies to assist with the running of the shelter. The money and supplies were given to McKnight, however only the supplies were ever given to the shelter. Meggin McKnight was charged with Theft less than $1,000.

In the third case, fundraisers were held in October and December of 2011 at the “Paws and Claws” store in West Ocean City. Again, the funds, approximately $240.00, were given to McKnight who never turned the funds over to the shelter. Again, McKnight was charged with one count of Theft less than $100, one count of Theft less than $1,000 and Theft Scheme less than $1,000.

McKnight was employed by the Ocean City Humane Society for approximately four years.

All three cases are currently active in the District Court of Maryland.

Father of 30 Kids by 11 Women Can't Pay Child Support

A Tennessee man's problems paying child support aren't so surprising: He has 30 children with 11 different women.
Desmond Hatchett, 33, of Knoxville, is pleading with the state to help him pay for child support, citing the fact that he earns minimum wage. Hatchett made national news in 2009, when his tally stood at 21 children.

 “I had four kids in the same year," he said. "Twice.”

Statement From Governor Martin O’Malley On APRIL Jobs Report

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor’s release of preliminary employment data for the month of April:

“This was a disappointing month of job creation in what remains the best quarter of private sector job growth since 1999, and our second best quarter since BLS started measuring in 1990. Maryland's businesses are in the midst of their best start of the year for new job creation in over a decade, creating 15,700 since January.

"Maryland has now recovered 74 percent of the jobs lost during the Bush recession (compared to 42 percent for the nation overall). On balance we have seen private sector job growth in eight of the last 12 months with an average monthly gain of 3,167 jobs. As our workforce continues to grow, our unemployment rate increased slightly to 6.7 percent, but stands nearly 20 percent below the national average."

"The most important job we create is the next one. With a steady reduction in new unemployment claims and steadily declining numbers of families needing temporary assistance, we're hopeful that the positive trends we've seen in job creation over the last 12 months will continue. But there is still more work to be done. Maryland continues to recover stronger than most states because of the choices we make together to create jobs and invest in innovation."

Israel to Hizbullah: Next Time We Fight to Win

This week AFP published an important report that shouldn’t slip under the radar.

It quotes a “senior military official in Israel’s northern command” saying that, while Hizbullah may not want another war with Israel, Iran would order it to attack Israel in case of an Israeli strike on Iran. In that case, says the official, the Israel-Hizbullah clash would go “much faster” than the 2006Second Lebanon War.

That conflict, which lasted 34 days, ended with Hizbullah somewhat shaken by the prowess shown by Israel’s air force, mainly in the war’s opening days when it took out Hizbullah’s long-range rocket launchers in Beirut.

Oh no, Bozo! Clowns plan protest at NATO Summit

This weekend's NATO Summit in Chicago is expected to be fraught with protesters. But authorities said they're keeping a keen eye open for a group of clowns who have vowed to take their pies and protests to the streets.

On its website, one member of the The ClownBloq said the group "is both a joke and NOT a joke."

Police agree, with sources telling WBBM-TV that the group is one of the more radical protest organizations, who peel away layers of clown clothing during protests to avoid detection.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley issued the following statement on the unanimous decision by the Maryland Court of Appeals that valid, out-of-state same-sex marriages must be recognized in Maryland:

“Today’s unanimous decision by the Maryland Court of Appeals confirms that the policy of recognizing out-of-state same-sex marriages that we have implemented in the Executive Branch is valid and consistent with the law. To treat families differently under the law because they happen to be led by gay or lesbian couples is not right or just. Today’s decision is another step forward in our efforts to ensure that every child is protected equally under the law. As a free and diverse people, the way forward is always to be found through greater respect for the equal rights of all; for the human dignity of all.”

Buffett to Buy 63 newspapers

Warren Buffett made good Thursday on his promise to buy more newspapers, agreeing to buy 63 daily and weekly newspapers in the Southeast for $142 million from financially troubled Media General Inc. of Richmond, Va.

And Buffett said Thursday he may buy more newspapers. “Any time we can add properties we like, to management we like, at a price we like, we're ready to go.”

The newspapers, in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida, would be combined with the Omaha World-Herald Co. into a new Berkshire Hathaway Inc. division called BH Media Group. They would be managed by World Media Enterprises, a new sister company of The World-Herald.

Chicago Cops Disappear Activists Ahead Of NATO War Council

Police in the Windy City recently underscored the fact that the United States is now a police state little different than the former Soviet Union or East Germany.

In the video here, National Lawyers Guild (NLG) spokesman Kris Hermes says Chicago cops broke down an apartment door and arrested activists without a warrant.

Arizona's Secretary Of State Threatens To Keep President Obama Off The Ballot Unless He Sees A Birth Certificate

Talking Points Memo this morning pointed to this interview yesterday between Arizona conservative radio host and Secretary of State Ken Bennett. In the interview, Bennett said it would be "possible" that he keeps President Obama off the Arizona ballot in November unless he receives "confirmation" from the state of Hawaii that Barack Obama was born there.

We've reached out to Bennett, but haven't heard back yet.

Bennett insisted in the radio interview that he's not a "birther," the term that has become synonymous with the conspiracy theorists purporting that Obama was not born in the United States.

"I believe that the president was born in Hawaii. Or at least I hope he was," Bennett said.

He just wants proof. So, about eight weeks ago, he said, he contacted authorities in Hawaii for confirmation. He said he only wants an email.

State Police Investigating Pedestrian Fatality: TEACHER

Pedestrian: Eleanor B. Pusey, 78, Laurel, DE

Resume:
Laurel, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a pedestrian fatality involved in a crash with a motorcycle.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:03 a.m. this morning as Matthew A. Kondash, 28, was operating his 1982 Yamaha motorcycle on Sycamore Road traveling east bound toward Beaver Dam Branch Road east of Laurel. Kondash was approaching a sharp right curve, while just ahead of him, was a vehicle traveling in the same direction in the process of negotiating the same curve. This curve was marked with a solid double yellow line indicating a no passing zone. Kondash closed in on the vehicle and maneuvered his motorcycle into the west bound lane, while still negotiating the curve, and began passing around the vehicle. As the motorcycle exited the curve, he switched back into the east bound lane of travel. At this same time, Eleanor Pusey was walking from Epworth Church/School, which was located on the north side of the road, to the south side of the road where the school children were participating in a field day event. Ms. Pusey was then struck by the motorcycle in the roadway and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Matthew Kondash was thrown from the motorcycle. He was flown from the scene by LifeNet to Christiana Hospital for serious injuries he sustained in the crash.

The children and other staff where well off the south side of the road at the time of the collision and were not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The investigation into this crash is continuing and charges are pending.

OCPD REMEMBERS FORMER OFFICER JAMES “JAY” HANCOCK

It is with deep sadness that Chief Bernadette DiPino and the men and women of the Ocean City Police Department must announce the passing of retired police officer and former Ocean City Council member, James (Jay) Hancock.

“Our prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,” said Chief DiPino. “Jay served this agency faithfully for more than three decades. This is a tremendous loss for both the community and our OCPD family.”

Jay served as an Ocean City Police Officer from May 24, 1971 until his retirement on October 1, 2002. He served in many capacities within the department. Early in his career, he was assigned to the Patrol Division, working various shifts, protecting the streets of Ocean City.

Later in his career he worked in the Services Division. He performed front desk duties, supervising the detention facility and the communications area in the former Dorchester Street facility.

Jay served the agency in his most visible capacity as a Public Information Officer. He handled all media duties and served as the face of the department for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the National Information Officers Association. While on the city council, he also served as a member of the Police Commission.

Prior to joining the OCPD, he served in the U.S. Armed Services. He also earned his degree from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia in 1970.

Funeral arrangements will be announced as we learn them.
