JMU sends students home, transitions to online classes after more than 500 COVID-19 cases reported

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- James Madison University will transition to primarily online learning and students living in dorms will be asked to return home after more than 500 COVID-19 cases were reported on campus.
"In-person classes will transition online no later than this coming Monday, Sept. 7. Additionally, residents will be asked to return home by Sept. 7 unless they seek an exemption to stay," the school said in a release.

Test do not show the load amount but just positive or negative. Another words the virus is less then the flu h1N1 probably by 10 of thousands. Media flu, campaign flu but not a pandemic

Liability concerns remain part of the "panic" for schools, business, etc.

If as a nation we can somehow get past the fear of being sued - maybe...but until then, heightened alert will always be front and center. Its unfortunately who we are in the early 21st Century.

Too much risk/very little reward.

9:05. Exactly. Parents need to push back.

So you’re telling me in a regular school opening 500 kids at the same time would test positive for the flu?

That's great send them all home to multiple states to spread it more. They should have kept them at school locked down for 2 weeks.

Sorry to burst your bubble but parents have nothing to do with choices over decisions at a college. They have no standing to complain about student grades or assignments because their precious little darlings are legal adults. They are just the money. Unless their adult child signs a waiver allowing the parents to speak on their behalf they have no rights to question anything colleges do. All educational and privacy rights transfer to the adult student when they reach the age of majority.
Parents can push all they want but colleges don't have to kiss their butt and bend over backwards like when their children were in K-12.
I found this so amusing when I went back to finish my degree at SU and some freshman who didn't like their grades tried bullying their professors with threats to get their parents involved. I don't know who laughed harder, me or the profs!
Once again....good luck parents on pushing back on colleges. Your children are adults now and you can't fight their battles for them anymore.

Nobody cares. Another ASININE libutard virginia university. You can't believe what they say. They don't want to open. If schools open it helps President Trump. But wait until the election is over. Just like the statues being taken down. IT WILL ALL STOP.

9:45. It’s a virus. It’s going to spread anyways. Stop with the hysteria.

945 indeed.

Another way of looking at it, a decision was made to open colleges, students from all of the country relocated to a new "home" (college) and the spread happened.

No win scenario until the script tells us there is a vaccine and then a new topic of conversation will be the lead story....that being should I get it or not - JUST in time for the holidays!!!

9:05 I'm gonna go ahead and disregard everything you're saying seeing as you're an idiot.

It all boils down to none of you wanting to actually take care of your children. We should echo the old conservative sentiment, shouldn't have children or have sex if you aren't ready to take care of them! Teachers are not your babysitters and shouldn't be exposed to diseases because you want your kids out of your house

When they send them home... I bet they won't send home the money they have already spent on the dorms and meal plans.

What did lockdowns do? None of the ships, tents, air fields were used!! Only reason for lockdown was to help hospitals and keep away from elderly. However EVERY DEMOCRAT city sent elderly covid 19 patients to the nursing homes. 67 percent of ALL DEATHS were in nursing homes cdc. The virus literally started from a sick person working in a nursing home. (Against policy) The biggest overblown media FLU in American history. You fell for it keep cheering sheep

20,000 thousand students on 800 acres. Of the 500 NONE are sick it was part of enrollment for a particular major.

"Another words". Perhaps you were trying to say "In other words"?

Couldn't agree more.
