Police Have A Suspect

Police have a suspect in the case of a poisoned letter mailed to the Senate. The letter, coated in ricin, was intercepted at a post office in Prince George's County, Md. It was addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.). His colleague, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), says the suspect is a frequent correspondent. The FBI and Capitol Police are investigating. But they wouldn't name the suspect.

Numerous Injuries Reported In West Fertilizer Plant Explosion


WACO (April 17, 2013)—Emergency crews from throughout Central Texas responded Wednesday night after a major explosion at a burning fertilizer plant in West north of Waco.

West firefighters were dispatched to the plant earlier in the evening after an earlier fire rekindled.

The explosion was reported at around 7:50 p.m. in a frantic radio call from the scene of the fire at West Fertilizer at 1471 Jerry Mashek Dr. just off Interstate 35.

Numerous injuries were reported and multiple ambulances were requested.

Several buildings were reported destroyed and a nearby nursing home was damaged.

Baltimore Suspends Speed Camera Program

Baltimore has temporarily suspended its troubled speed and red- light program following reports of erroneous citations.

Officials blame the suspension on "complications" that arose while switching vendors.

Baltimore's Department of Transportation made the announcement in a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying that two "clerical mistakes" had been made.

Renegotiate your pay? The National Association of Postal Supervisors told the Postal Service: thanks but no thanks. The Postal Service asked supervisors to re-open pay talks in light of its financial crisis. But the group says postal supervisors can't afford it. They've had three years of pay freezes, paid higher benefits premiums and faced bigger workloads because of understaffing. Meanwhile, lawmakers are debating helping the Postal Service climb out of the red. The House Oversight Committee hears from Postmaster General Pat Donahoe, Comptroller General Gene Dodaro and the heads of the Postal Service's Board of Governors and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Bond Denied For Eastern Shore Arson Suspect

A judge denied bond today for Tonya S. Bundick, the woman who along with her fiancé, police believe was behind a string of more than 70 arson fires.

Bundick, 40, appeared in Accomack County General District Court this morning for a bond hearing.

Bundick and Charles R. Smith III, 38, also known as Charles Applegate, were arrested earlier this month and each charged with one count of felony arson and one count of felony conspiracy to commit arson in connection with a fire in Melfa.

Police have said they are confident the Parksley couple is behind most of the 77 arson fires set in the county since November. Additional charges are expected, according to police.

Will They Scale Back?

The United States still pays billions of dollars for overseas military bases. The Senate Armed Services Committee spent a year investigating the cost, burden-sharing and congressional oversight of permanent bases and found the U.S. spends $10 billion overall — 70 percent of that in Germany, Japan and South Korea. The report also identified inherent problems and missteps as U.S. facilities on foreign lands are returned to the host nations. The Pentagon is looking to scale back or close overseas and U.S. domestic bases in order to save money.

Suspects Charged in Recent Counterfeit Money Crime Spree


On April 2, 2013, Ocean City Police began receiving numerous complaints regarding counterfeit
money. OCPD officers took a total of five reports of counterfeit money being passed or attempted to be passed at local businesses over the next 36 hours.

During the investigation OCPD officers and detectives identified two possible suspects and confirmed that police agencies in Worcester and Wicomico Counties, as well as Sussex County Delaware, were also investigating the passing of similar counterfeit currency. On April 5, 2013, a suspect identified as: Derrick Ryan Richardson 25, of Parsonsburg, MD, and a female accomplicewere arrested by the Fruitland Police Department while attempting to pass the counterfeit money at a local business.

As a result of this arrest, accompanied by the recovery of additional evidence and surveillance video, Ocean City investigators positively identified the suspects who passed the counterfeit currency in Ocean City as: Richardson and Justin Michael Scanlon, 26, of Ocean City.

BREAKING NEWS Feds Arrest Suspect In Ricin-Positive Letters Sent To Obama, Senator

Federal agents on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the mailing of letters to President Barack Obama and a U.S. senator that initially tested positive for the poison ricin.

The suspect was identified as Kenneth Curtis of Tupelo, Miss., federal officials told NBC News.

Both letters carried an identical closing statement, according to an FBI bulletin obtained by NBC News on Wednesday.

Pension System Advisor ‘Very Disappointed’ In Legislative Cut In Contribution

The outside advisor for the Maryland pension system told its Board of Trustees Tuesday that he was “very disappointed” that the legislature reduced the state’s payment into the retirement fund by $100 million in budget action this month.

The money comes from $300 million in added contributions of state employees and teachers passed in 2011. It is being set aside for the possible federal budget cuts from sequestration.

The State Retirement Agency and the Department of Legislative Services were also told to look into the impact of further reducing these payments in the future.

If the legislature continued “tinkering” with the $300 million added contribution, said Brian Murphy of Gabriel Roeder Smith & Co., it would show the absence of “a firm funding policy” and require recalculating the annual contribution. GRS is the system’s actuary.

There's a confrontation coming between the Obama administration and Republicans in Congress over the most basic question of immigration reform: How secure is the U.S. border with Mexico?

Legislation Would Prevent IRS From Providing Pre-Filled Tax Returns

In 2002, when the IRS and the tax-prep software industry created Free File, which gives consumers with simple tax returns the ability to file electronically without being charged, the IRS agreed to not provide its own “free, online tax return preparation and filing services to taxpayers.” That arrangement is expiring, so some lawmakers (with a bit of money from tax-prep companies in their pockets) are seeking to make it permanent.
The Free File Program Act of 2013 was introduced in Congress in February by the bipartisan pair of Illinois representative Peter Roskam and Congressman Ron Kind of Wisconsin, who each received some of the millions that Intuit and others have been pumping into the coffers of federal lawmakers in recent years.

Obama Slashed Bombing Prevention Budget In Half

In his defense, sending more money to the Muslim Brotherhood had to come out of someone’s budget. It just had to be DHS which was wasting money trying to stop bombings that could have gone to buying jets for the Brotherhood.
 Under President George W. Bush, the Department of Homeland Security had $20 million allocated for preventing the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by terrorists working inside the United States. The current White House has cut that funding down to $11 million.
That assessment comes from Robert Liscouski, a former Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection, in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15 that killed three Americans and injured at least 173 others.

GM & Ford Decide To Be Best Pals In Order To Build New Transmissions Together

Rivalries between car companies run deep, especially when they’re sharing the same American turf. So it’s somewhat surprising, if not sensible, that General Motors and Ford are coming together in order build the best fuel-efficient automatic transmission out there. At least, that’s the goal.

The two companies announced yesterday that they’ve got their engineers working on a team to design nine- and 10-speed transmissions that will go into many new vehicles.

It’s all about making the engines work less, and keeping the shifting smooth so that customers/drivers don’t notice a thing.

Released Saudi Man Member Of Al-Qaida Clan?


JERUSALEM – The Saudi national questioned by police in the investigation into the Boston Marathon attack shares the same last name as a major Saudi clan that includes scores of al-Qaida operatives.

Some in the clan are senior al-Qaida members while others are reportedly being held by the U.S. in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.

Two Saudi nationals were reportedly injured in the bombings in Boston, with one, 20-year-old foreign student Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, initially put under armed guard at a hospital. Alharbi is reportedly studying in the U.S. on a student visa.

Is Christianity Homophobic?

That "loving Jesus means hating gay people" is "proclaimed in Christian churches and on Christian television and radio broadcasts."
So declares Dan Savage in his review of Jeff Chu's "Does Jesus Really Love Me: A Gay Christian's Pilgrimage in Search of God in America" -- on page one of The New York Times Book Review.

Who is foremost among those who have made "anti-gay bigotry seem synonymous with Christianity"? The Family Research Council and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

So says Savage. And who is he? A cradle Catholic who says he "was in church every Sunday for the first 15 years of my life. Now I spend my Sundays on my bike, on my snowboard or on my husband."

One gets the point. And in handing this review to an apostate Catholic and atheist homosexual, the Times was nailing its anti-Catholic colors to the mast. Yet what Savage alleges and the Times published is a lie.

No true Catholic church can preach that Jesus hates gays. "Love your enemies" is the message of Christ. Hate the sin and love the sinner is taught as gospel truth in Catholic schools.

This has been Catholic doctrine for 2,000 years.

Md. Farmers Hoping Stink Bugs Aren’t As Bad As In 2010; Thurmont Farm Serving As Test Case

THURMONT, Md. — Farmers cope with unpredictable weather patterns that often affect their bottom lines, but the people whose job it is to feed Americans and, in some cases, the world, also must contend with pests.

Orchardist Robert Black is hoping the brown marmorated stink bugs will not appear this year in numbers farmers experienced in 2010.

“I just wish we don’t get anything like we had in 2010,” when the winged creatures severely damaged crops and gardens, said Black, president of Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Thurmont. “Everybody had a little damage last year, but it was nothing like 2010.”

Reminder for the week: Turkey season opens April 13

To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, between April 3 and April 9 DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement agents made 1,135 contacts with hunters, anglers, boaters and the general public, including 12 boating safety/fishing regulation compliance checks. Agents responded to 36 complaints and issued 41 citations. Incidents of particular note included:
On April 8, following an investigation, agents arrested Howard B. Carter IV, 35, of Middletown and charged him with possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, hunting from a roadway, third degree conspiracy, hunting wild turkey without a permit, failure to register wild turkey, illegal possession of wild turkey, hunting wild turkey during a closed season and failure to wear required camouflage while hunting wild turkey. Carter was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 in New Castle and released pending a later trial in a higher court. 

Agents arrested two local fugitives. On April 4, Lanier L. Bright, 41, of Millsboro, was taken into custody on a Justice of the Peace Court warrant and released after posting bail. Bright was also cited for trespassing after hours in a state wildlife area. On April 8, Sarah King, 40, of Millsboro, was taken into custody on a Justice of the Peace Court 3 warrant and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in default of bond. King and a companion were also cited for trespassing after hours in a state wildlife area.

On April 5, a 24-year-old Wilmington man was cited for possession of an undersized snapping turtle, which the man had offered for sale online. Agents also issued a warning to the man about two other turtles found in his possession for which he did not have a permit. All three turtles were turned over to Division of Fish and Wildlife’s aquatic education staff.

Citations issued by violation type included the following, with the number of charges in parentheses:

Wildlife Conservation: Possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle (1), hunting from a roadway (1), hunting wild turkey without required permit (1), failure to register wild turkey (1), illegal possession of wild turkey (1), hunting wild turkey during a closed season (1), and failure to wear required camouflage while hunting wild turkey (1), and possession of an undersized snapping turtle (1), New Castle County; Trespassing after hours in a state wildlife area (8), illegally offering antlered deer parts for sale (2), commercialization of native wildlife (1), and an international wildlife trafficking violation for offering for sale a taxidermy-mounted bear (1)*, Sussex County.

Md. Official Says State Prepared To Help Addicts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Maryland's health secretary says the state is in a strong position to help thousands of drug addicts who will be eligible for health insurance next year.

Dr. Joshua Sharfstein says Maryland has been investing more than $100 million a year in state money in recent years to boost substance abuse treatment, on top of Medicaid support.

Sharfstein says he's confident Maryland is poised to handle the rising numbers of insured drug addicts and get them into treatment, and won't be swamped by the increase.

As the trend has caught on, more people have been left wondering... what do they do with their feathered friends when they need to leave town? Well, Bill Bezuk of Oregon now has an answer. Chicken owners can book a room at Bill's luxury chicken hotel. Yes, you heard that right. Mr. Bezuk used to offer a basic chicken sitting service, but realized the potential for more, and built the very first luxury hotel for the birds in the U.S. He calls it The Nest, and for $3 a day, guests receive deluxe accommodations, which include organic food, fresh vegetables, and a turn-down service. Apparently, there are already a handful of chicken-boarding businesses in the U.K., including Fowlty Towers in Cowden, which offers spa treatments and chicken pedicures. Seriously... they really do.

Chevy Chase Landlord Pleads Guilty to Spying on Tenants

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A Montgomery County landlord has pleaded guilty to using a hidden surveillance camera to spy on female tenants engaged in sexual acts.

Dennis Van Dusen, of Chevy Chase, faces up to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty in Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Sentencing was scheduled for July 2. Van Dusen admitted to three counts of using a camera in a private home with a prurient intent.

Right To Work For Less

Michigan's Republican governor, Rick Snyder, dealt a staggering blow to workers last year, with the signing of right-to-work-for-LESS legislation. But Democratic lawmakers in that state have introduced a bill, which would increase the minimum wage to $10 per hour, to help combat Snyder's anti-worker law. Michigan's minimum wage is currently $7.40 an hour, and it hasn't been raised since 2008. Dave Woodward, who started the online petition at RaiseMichigan.com, said, "It's long overdue that Michigan families get a raise, and raising the minimum wage helps do that." As expected, Republican law makers in Michigan say the increase would hurt business, but more than 70% of residents support raising the minimum wage. According to the Think Progress Blog, a minimum wage worker in Michigan would have to work 80 hours a week just to afford the rent of a two-bedroom apartment. This bill would go a long way towards helping Michigan families make ends meet. Now we'll have to wait and see whether Rick Snyder will block the effort to lift families out of poverty in his state. Stay tuned.

“Favorable” Opinion Of The Federal Government Plunges To A Record Low Of 28%

I have highlighted these polls in the past due to the fact that when support for the Federal government plunges to these sorts of levels you have a recipe for serious social problems. The worst part is that the current low approval rating for this collective of parasites and thieves in Washington D.C. is completely justified in every way imaginable. It would be one thing if the political oligarchs were changing their behavior as a result of public dissatisfaction, but in fact, it is clear they are doubling down on their corruption, lies and authoritarianism. Due to the many decades of blatant theft that they and their bankster masters have gotten away with, they simply think they can do whatever they wish and get away with it indefinitely. So they will do just that until we hit a total societal crisis, which is why I find the current situation so volatile and terrifying.

Biden, O'Malley To Attend UB Law Center Opening

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden will join Gov. Martin O'Malley to celebrate the opening of a new law school building at the University of Baltimore.

The building is named for John and Frances Angelos, the late parents of Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos. He's a graduate of the law school and contributed $15 million of the $22 million in private funding for the building.

The multi-million dollar building was designed by architect Stefan Behnisch in partnership with Baltimore-based firm, Ayers Saint Gross.

Back in 2009, Google CEO and now Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, already under heavy fire for his company’s strategy to collect, store, and mine every shred of personal data out there, said [8] on CNBC, “If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.”

It makes sense. Why worry about surveillance if you haven’t done anything wrong? This, in his unvarnished manner, is what he thinks about privacy. There is none. You don’t need it. You don’t want it. It’s not good for you. It just makes you appear guilty. It’s the philosophy under which police states operate.

Google has no compunction about reading emails of its Gmail users, browsing through user details in its social network services, tracking people throughout their searches, purchases, and reading patterns. It draws conclusions and combines it all with other data into a beautiful whole. For people with Android mobile devices, there is little Google doesn’t know.

What Does Real Energy Independence Looks Like

Proponents of green energy are looking to Portugal to demonstrate what real energy independence looks like. During the first part of this year, 70% of that nation's energy was generated by renewable sources. The vast majority was supplied by hydroelectric power, which saw a 312 percent increase in production from the previous year, and generated almost 40% of that nation's energy. Wind turbines and solar energy production accounted for nearly another 30% of Portugal's electricity. In fact, so much of Portugal's energy was supplied by renewable sources, that nation exported electricity to other nations, and sold off a share of it's carbon credits allotted by the EU's carbon trading system. So, not only was Portugal able to protect the environment by switching to green energy, but that nation was able to generate revenue doing so. This is more evidence that renewable energy is not just good science, it's good business. If our nation really wants to achieve energy independence, we should be following Portugal's example and making the switch to green energy.

Anne Arundel County Council Debates Allowing Tasers

Another way to inflict violence, or a logical method of self-defense?

The County Council is considering whether it makes sense to allow residents to carry Tasers, stun guns and other electronic control devices.

To Margaret Gwathmey of Harwood, the answer is clear.

“Have you ever felt four-and-a-half million volts, Mr. Fink?” Gwathmey asked Councilman Derek Fink, the bill’s sponsor.

“Do you have children in your homes ... What a fun new toy for them,” she said of stun guns.

IRS Says Refunds Are Off 4.5%

The IRS is facing something of a delayed tax season. Just before the filing deadline, returns were running 3.4 percent less than a year earlier. Refunds were off 4.5 percent. The Wall Street Journal reports, that's because of the January budget deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. It occurred so late, the IRS had to postpone the opening of the filing season. It needed time to reprogram its computers to account for tax law changes. Experts predict that eventually, the numbers will return to normal. Tax receipts are up this year thanks to rate hikes and more people working.

Roofers Union Calls For Obamacare’s Repeal

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers is reportedly the first union to officially call for repeal of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. The health care law is prompting some serious buyer’s remorse in Big Labor, which worked hard on behalf of the administration to pass it:

Two Strikes You're Out?

The Department of Veterans Affairs wants to end its two-strikes-and-you're-out policy of health care. Right now, if a veteran misses two medical appointments without giving at least 24 hours notice and a good excuse, that's it. The VA puts them down as refusing medical care. They don't receive more health care services from the department except in an emergency. Or if they promise not to miss appointments again. VA said that rule is out of line with its patient-centered philosophy. It wants it stripped from the books. It is accepting public comments on a proposed rule in the Federal Register.

Volunteers Needed- May 4th Ramp Project

Volunteers are needed to build a wheelchair ramp for a very deserving person in need near Salisbury. Two shifts are available: 8am-noon and noon- 4pm. Participants will receive the exact location of the project prior to the event. Pizza lunch and snacks will be provided onsite.

Basic Safety will be discussed before the work begins: Anyone needing specific training on the use of tools is encouraged to ask. No carpentry experience is necessary... there is something for everyone to to, no matter your skill level!

All participants must sign a "Participant Agreement and Liability Wavier" prior to working. This, and further detailed information, will be emailed to participants one week prior to the project event date. Must be 18 years or older.

What to Bring:

Tools: bring any carpentry hand tools you know how to use: post hole diggers, shovels, drills, saw horses, power saws, framing squares, levels, string line level. Tools will also be provided at the site. You may elect to bring a hammer, nail pocket and glasses/goggles or other eye protection. There will be a few of those onsite as needed.

Clothing: Jeans, work shoes, gloves, appropriate shirts and a
head covering/sunscreen. Dress for the weather!

On page "316" under the Mayor's office Jim Ireton is again requesting a pay raise for Lore Chambers. He wants her to go from a pay grade 12 to a pay grade 15. This guy has lost his mind. Jim Ireton the best thing you can do for this city is eliminate that position. We can't afford to have a Mayor, a city administrator and an assistant city administrator.

Gospel Singer George Beverly Shea Dead At 104; Sang At Graham Crusades

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – George Beverly Shea, the booming baritone who sang to millions of Christians at evangelist Billy Graham's crusades, died Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 104.

Spokesman Brent Rinehart of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said Shea died in Asheville after a brief illness.

Shea was well-known as a gospel soloist before he and Graham met in the early 1940s. He joined Graham's crusade team in 1947 and stayed until Graham's declining health ended most of the evangelist's public appearances nearly 60 years later.

Who Will Protect Us From The 'Protectors'?

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, prosecutor Glenn McGovern writing about the recent shooting of two prosecutors in Texas asked, "Who will protect the protectors?" He wrote:
Working to make America less dangerous can be dangerous. The shocking murders of justice-system officials this year in Texas and Colorado are only among the most recent grim reminders of an everyday threat.

The article brings up an obvious question: Does anyone feel protected by police and prosecutors? Better yet, it seems appropriate to ask: Who will protect innocent citizens from the predations of police and prosecutors hellbent on framing innocent people for crimes, sometimes even "crimes" that never were committed?

This is not a superfluous question. The vast majority of people who have any interaction with an on-duty police officer do so under duress. Either they are stopped for a traffic violation or are being arrested or are being ordered around. In extreme situations, they are on the receiving end of abuse, either during a home invasion (called a "no-knock raid") or an unpleasant encounter on the street.
