Tonights fireworks are successful despite the torrential downpours.

Frank Kratovil's Buddy is One of Top Congressional Porkers

Maryland 1st District congressional candidate Frank Kratovil has been crowing about his campaign's designation as a DCCC-targeted race. His buddy, DCCC chair Chris Van Hollen is promising to pour all kinds of special interest money into Kratovil's race.

We shouldn't be surprised that Van Hollen is capable of funneling cash into Kratovil's campaign coffers. Van Hollen is one of the TOP 3 PORKERS in the US House, according to Citizens Against Government Waste.

Kratovil, who claims to reflect "Eastern Shore values" and attacks his conservative opponent, Maryland Sen. Andy Harris (R-7) for taking small dollar contributions bundled by the low-tax, pro-growth Club for Growth, is starting to show First District voters what he's really about.

IF "Eastern Shore values" include high taxes, begging money from special interest lobbies that want to harm our economy, higher government spending and creeping socialism - all values personified by Kratovil's new best friend Van Hollen - then perhaps Kratovil really does reflect the values of Maryland's First District.

Structure Fire - Mardela Springs

July 3, 2008 - Wicomico County stations 9 Mardela Springs, Sta.14 Sharptown and Dorchester County Sta.11 Vienna were alerted for a building fire on Rt.50 westbound in the are of mile marker 100. Crews arrived to find two large out buildings and two boats with heavy fire around all. Engine 906 arrived and put two hand lines in service and laid a supply line for the next due tanker into the scene. Tanker 901 arrived and hooked into the engine while Engine 1402 arrived and put another line in service. Crews had to deal with multiple exposures. Command requested an Engine Tanker from Sta.5 Hebron to the scene.

Crews worked for nearly 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The home owner stated that he was burning some trash and thought the fire was out and he left. The trash fire gained strength and walked the grass and into the buildings.

The Maryland State Fire marshals Office is investigating the fire.

Units on scene:
Command 9, Rescue Engine 906, Tanker 901, Engine Tanker 5, Engine Tanker 1402, Engine 1404, Truck 14, Engine 12 and Ambulance 211.

Immigration Enforcement as a Market Mechanism

Thursday, the Baltimore Sun ran an editorial decrying Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold's crack down on illegal immigrants. My, oh my! We can't arrest these poor people. We'll promote anti-immigrant feelings!

Hogwash! These people are in our country illegally. What part of that word doesn't the Sun and their left wing fellow travelers not understand?

Entering this country without papers is a crime. The police are supposed to arrest criminals, right?

Besides making a community feel safer and that little thing about actually enforcing the law, there are other benefits from the type of local enforcement efforts being undertaken in Anne Arundel county. Despite the best efforts of our nation's liberal elite, the market works. Always has and always will.

In this case local crackdowns will encourage illegals to move to jurisdictions where enforcement is not so tough. As the illegal immigrant population becomes more concentrated in those areas, the legal, hard working populace in those areas will then be calling for tougher enforcement there. Eventually, a large percentage illegals will either be arrested or concentrated in areas where the feds might actually get around to picking them up.

I have no illusions that we will actually retrieve every one of these unlawful residents. Nor do I believe that we will actually arrest every drug dealer. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

We should not only be encouraging John Leopold, but our own local officials as well to take up the banner of the fight against illegal immigration.

A VIEW FROM THE WEST: Shop Normal

So this evening on my way back from the Music and Arts Center that I found out about on the edge of town in Scaggsville, I thought I would stop in to BLOOM. I hear about it all of the time so I figure I would stop in to see what the big hub-bub was, especially after a couple of co-workers told me that it was not anything special.

First thing is first...Bloom is a yuppier version of Food Lion. This concept was created a number of years ago to capture different type of consumers. When I moved to Laurel originally, there were three Food Lion stores. Now there is two Bottom Dollars (the other Food Lion concept) and a Bloom which is just on the edge of town in Howard County.

So here we go on the adventure into a place that is suppose to be a different type of grocery store. First and foremost, I walk in, there was no singing, dancing or high-fiving anyone anywhere like the commercial. Oh, and there was no big entry way either (at least at this particular one).

Long story short, there is nothing special about Bloom. It is a regular grocery store where parking is a priority to those who are handicapped or have kids with them. OH and they have a map of the store on the shopping cart handles. But other than that...eh. But at least there is another 24 hour grocery store if I need it.

It should also be noted that upon further review, there is a bloom in Odenton as well, but no Music and Arts store close by as far as I know.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up already.

I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA .

If you were born here and don't like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry rear if you're running from them..

I also think they have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers license. I think it's good..... And I'm proud that "God" is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making "donations" to their cause.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

I believe "illegal" is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA !

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

Statement on Independence Day


Annapolis - Andy Harris M.D. celebrated Independence Day by participating in the Severna Park and Bel Air Parades.

Andy Harris M.D. released the following statement on Independence Day:

As Americans around the country come together to celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded once again of our nation's unparalleled freedom and opportunity for its citizens. Today marks our Nations Independence from the tyranny of England for 232 years!

Many things have changed over the course of this small segment of time in human existence. Man has the inborn desire for freedom, and every so often a people rise up and decide that they aren't going to live under tyranny anymore. It is at this point that the masses revolt against the powers that be. The revolts have several times resulted in a Democracy, but Democracy is short lived here is something interesting I came upon the other day and I thought it would be appropriate to share it on Independence Day.

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. ''From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. ''During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;

2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

3. from courage to liberty;

4. from liberty to abundance;

5. from abundance to complacency;

6. from complacency to apathy;

7. from apathy to dependence;

8. from dependence back into bondage.

'Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000. Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million, Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, stop reading here. If you are not, then get proactive and help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that:

Apathy is the Greatest Danger to Our Freedom.

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

Let us resolve with this Independence Day to be better, more involved Citizens!
