On Monday, Nikole Hannah-Jones, founder of The New York Times‘ “1619 Project,” admitted that her project is not a history and that the battle over it is about “memory” — a fight to “control the national narrative.” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) has moved to defund schools that teach the project.
“The fight over the 1619 Project is not about history. It is about memory,” Hannah-Jones tweeted. “I’ve always said that the 1619 Project is not a history. It is a work of journalism that explicitly seeks to challenge the national narrative and, therefore, the national memory. The project has always been as much about the present as it is the past.”

She claimed the 1619 Project “never pretended to be a history,” but said it involves “using history and reporting to make an argument.”
“The fight here is about who gets to control the national narrative, and therefore, the nation’s shared memory of itself. One group has monopolized this for too long in order to create this myth of exceptionalism,” Hannah-Jones added. “If their version is true, what do they have to fear of 1619?”

'Cheat-Sheet' Biden's 5 Simple Kamala Harris Talking Points Revealed
Joe Biden was seen earlier this week clutching a cheat-sheet full of praise for California’s junior Democratic senator (and veep hopeful), Kamala Harris.
Taking questions from the press on Tuesday, an Associated Press photographer captured Harris’ name “scrawled across the top” of Biden’s note, according to the AP report, along with these five talking points:
• Do not hold grudges
• Campaigned with me & Jill
• Talented
• Great help to campaign
• Great respect for her
A couple of things worth noting about those talking points before we get to the broader veepstakes issue.
Four out of the five of these need reminding? Everything but the first item — which we’ll get to momentarily — is pure boilerplate. Those talking points aren’t anything more than the slick praise that slides out of a politician’s mouth as easily as lies do.
Furthermore, as the AP story noted, they’re things the former veep has already said about his potential veep on more than one occasion.
That said, as a belt-and-suspenders guy myself, maybe I shouldn’t give much thought to even seasoned politicians who bring cheat-sheets to the lectern with them.

Trump Warns: We'll Send the National Guard to Take Out The 'Beehive of Terrorists' in Portland
Speaking at the White House Thursday evening, President Trump warned Oregon Governor Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler that if they don't clear out the "beehive of terrorists" in the city, he will.
"They put a ring around the courthouse and saved it. The group [additional federal agents] that is there is basically meant to save buildings, very strong, very powerful, but they didn't come out too often of this cocoon that they built in order to save this very expensive, valuable and psychologically important building," Trump said. "The Governor and the Mayor, we've been dealing with them and we think they don't know what they're doing because this should have not been going on for 60 days."
"Our people are staying there to see if they can do it today and tomorrow and if they don't do it, we'll send in the National Guard and we'll take care of it. We're telling you right now these protestors, and many should be arrested because these are professional agitators. These are professional anarchists. These are people who hate our country. We're telling them right now, we're coming in very soon, the National Guard, a lot of people, a lot of very tough people and these aren't people who are there to just guard the courthouse and save it. These are people who are allowed to go forward and do what they have to do," Trump said. "They're working today and probably tomorrow to clean out this beehive of terrorists. If they do it I'm going to be very happy and then slowly we can start to leave the city. If they don't do it, we'll send in the National Guard."
Trump's warning comes one day after the Department of Homeland Securityannounced a cooperative deal with local law enforcement to protect the federal courthouse, which has been under siege for months.

The Purpose of Government
Right now in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, and other cities across America, anarchists are rioting in the streets demanding change. That change is centered on the concept that the very existence of the United States is wrong; that somehow these rioters know better than did our Founding Fathers; and if they had been around 250 years ago, this would now be a land of “milk and honey” and not a land of injustice -- so they claim. Are their claims valid? Let’s have a look.
Since everyone seems to have problems with government, ask yourself, why were governments established in the first place? Was it to provide housing for the poor, educate the young, build roads for trade, or to build aqueducts for water distribution? Of course, the answer is "no." So, what is government’s purpose?
Governments were established to provide security, to provide for a common defense. During mankind’s prehistoric, nomadic days, it was family against family and tribe against tribe. The only way to protect your family, or your tribe, was to organize for the common defense. Once a large group gathers together, there must be some type of organized hierarchy or nothing gets accomplished. So, someone was designated the military leader, and that person usually became the tribe’s leader as well -- because he was backed by those who did the fighting. The security that ensued from the “common defense” gave stability to society. It allowed tribes to develop civilizations that then built roads and bridges, educated the populace, developed commerce, etc. However, the #1 purpose of government, at all levels, is to provide security and to protect the populace -- that’s why we tolerate the other inefficiencies of government. Without security, trade doesn’t develop because it will only be stolen. Without security, without protection, nothing else matters.

Tick, Tick, Boom, Boom, Time's Up, Obama Goons?
Remember, remember!
This third of November,
The Democrats' Russian collusion plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Democrats' treason should ever be forgot!
There's something happening here. People with titles are beginning to say out loud what people without titles have been saying for four years — that Barack Obama's FBI and CIA conspired to frame Donald Trump as an agent of Russia in order to spy on his campaign and then remove him from office. Attorney General Barr used the opportunity of being called in to testify before Jerry Nadler's House Judiciary Committee to state plainly that there were "grave abuses involved in the bogus 'Russiagate' scandal," and DOJ spokeswoman Kerri Kupec has stated, "What happened to candidate Trump was one of the greatest political injustices in history." Even Lindsey Graham, who has often seemed determined to use his chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee not to hold anybody accountable, is insisting that former members of Obama's administration will testify before the November election.
Perhaps U.S. attorney Durham will finally expose the corrupt origins of the Russia hoax in the weeks ahead, or perhaps the Department of Justice will prove conclusively that we have a two-tiered legal system, one for Democrats and their wards and one for everyone else. Whatever happens, irreparable harm has been done to the country, and Trump voters will never again put faith in an FBI, CIA, or DOJ that could so easily abandon legal and ethical constraints in order to pursue partisan political objectives equivalent to a bureaucratic coup d'état at the behest of a prior presidential administration.

Dems Fear Release of Durham's Findings Before the Election
Attorney General William Barr reiterated this week that he wouldn’t wait until after the election to release the report of U.S. Attorney John Durham, who is investigating the origins of the Russia collusion story. This has Democrats nervous and preemptively saying that anything Durham finds will be the result of a political witch hunt.
Democrats have a lot invested in the Russian collusion narrative and to have it officially debunked would be very damaging to their election prospects.
“There’s a real danger, in fact an urgent threat, that anything the Department of Justice does will be timed to aid the president,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D- Conn.) said in an interview, adding, “Barr has proven ready, willing and able to distort, distract and deceive.”At a hearing Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee, Barr was quizzed briefly by both sides on the matter but offered little to satisfy his questioners.
An “urgent threat”? Well, there’s certainly a threat to the narrative that damaged the Trump presidency, but beyond that, Blumenthal is emitting gas.
Barr’s reticence and Durham’s secrecy about what exactly he’s investigating and where it’s headed stands in shocking contrast to the circus surrounding the Mueller investigation. The volume of leaks to friendly media outlets was astonishingly unprofessional on both the media’s and Mueller’s part. How much of the information from Mueller’s investigation proved to be wrong or inaccurate?
It’s refreshing to have a professional like Durham conducting the investigation.
Chicago deputy police chief dead in apparent suicide — less than 2 weeks after big promotion
Chicago Police Deputy Chief Dion Boyd, a 30-year veteran of the force, received a lucrative promotion in July.
Less than two weeks later, Boyd was found dead in an apparent suicide.

A Viewer Writes: Then vs. Now
I was a student at Pocomoke High School when John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States and I remember him very well. Some people agreed with his policies and some did not but he was a well respected man. The entire country was traumatized when he was assassinated on a Friday afternoon in Dallas. His body was returned to Washington on Friday night and lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Saturday and Sunday. His funeral and burial were on Monday. From the time of his death until he was buried was a total of 71 hours.
Today we have a congressman from Georgia who died of natural causes at an advanced age. He neither wrote nor sponsored any legislation except for naming post offices after his friends. His only real claim to fame is that he was the victim of a beating by an Alabama State Trooper over 50 years ago. He died two weeks ago and is still not in his grave.

Tennessee State Senator Embezzled $600,000 in Federal Grant Money, U.S. Says
Katrina Robinson allegedly used the funds for personal expenses — including her wedding, honeymoon and later divorce — as well as a campaign event, according to a criminal complaint.
A Tennessee state senator has been charged with stealing more than $600,000 in federal grant money and using it to pay for campaign events and personal expenses, including her wedding, honeymoon and subsequent divorce, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The senator, Katrina Robinson, 39, faces counts of theft and embezzlement involving government programs and wire fraud, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
The money in question was intended to fund a nurse training program at a vocational school run by Ms. Robinson, but instead was siphoned off to add to her salary, help fund her other businesses and pay personal expenses, among other things, according to an affidavit filed with the complaint.
In addition to serving as a state senator, Ms. Robinson, a Memphis Democrat elected in 2018 who represents Shelby County, is director of The Healthcare Institute, a for-profit college that provides training programs for certified nursing assistant, phlebotomist and licensed practical nursing. Ms. Robinson, a registered nurse, founded the school in 2015, according to its website.

Daily Caller Experienced Google Suppression, Says Editor in Chief
Daily Caller editor-in-chief Geoffrey Ingersoll has said that the conservative news website has experienced Google search suppression similar to that reported by Breitbart News yesterday. Based on Google’s defense that it manually blacklists “violent extremism,” Ingersoll pointed out: “We are not ISIS.”
“Specifically we struggled with search slowly dwindling until May 4 exactly. We broke down the analytics. The May 4 flat line is clearly the result of the human hand in the process,” said Ingersoll in a series of tweets.

Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai was grilled about Google’s search bias at the antitrust committee earlier today, with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) pressing the CEO to explain leaks revealing that the Daily Caller and other sites were added to search blacklists.
Pichai responded by saying that sites were sometimes added to manual blacklists, to comply with law enforcement and tackle election interference and “violent extremism.”
“In order to comply with the law in every country we operate in, for example there might be an actor or a website identified as ‘interfering in elections’, and we then have to put that site on a list so that [it] doesn’t appear in our search results… other examples would be violent extremism…”

The NFL Just Declared War On Church
A deal reached by the National Football Leauge and the NFL Players Association bans players from attending any indoor church services that are above 25 percent capacity, multiple sources told NBC Sports on Saturday.
Alongside its restrictions on attending worship services, the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) also prohibits players from attending indoor nightclubs and bars (except for take-out), indoor concerts, professional sports games, and indoor parties that include 15 or more people.
The deal has not been publicly released, but NBC Sports made no mention of any restrictions on attending protests. Meanwhile, the NFL’s Twitter account has been sharing and celebrating pictures of players engaging in protests around the country.

War on the Suburbs: How HUD's Housing Policies Became a Weapon for Social Change
There are few things more synonymous with the American way of life than the suburbs. While certainly not without problems, the suburbs have been home to middle class Americans since the end of World War 2, and even before. But the suburbs are under attack from certain elements of the left as a source of social inequality and (what else?) “white privilege” and “white supremacy.”
If you are alarmed by this article, that’s a good thing. Because these elements of the American left seek nothing more than the total destruction of your way of life, from the people who live in your communities to the types of houses that you live in to the places where you will be allowed to shop and how you get from one place to another.
The policy is called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH), but beyond this specific HUD policy, there’s a philosophical and political attack on suburbs that goes well in excess of any single policy. There is, without mincing words, a War on the Suburbs in America. It is a war not against a geographical location or a type of housing or community, but an attack on a way of life.
What Is Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing?

Barr’s Testimony May Have Revealed Another Obama-Biden Scandal
Attorney General William Barr’s comments indicate there were many situations that appear to have lacked a legitimate purpose for unmasking, and that this problem pre-dated Trump’s election.
Yesterday, Attorney General William Barr testified before the House Judiciary Committee on a wide range of topics spanning from the violent riots in Portland to the Supreme Court’s illegal immigrants decision. However, beyond the fact that Democrat members of the House Judiciary Committee had rehearsed pushing the “I reclaim my time” parliamentary mute button, Americans learned scant new information from Barr’s Tuesday testimony.
The rare exception came during an exchange with the ranking Republican on the committee, Jim Jordan, when Barr told the Ohio Republican he had tasked U.S. Attorney John Bash of Texas with investigating the high number of unmasking requests that took place during the Obama administration.

Mollie Hemingway: Democrats Don’t Like Barr ‘Because He Is Holding People Accountable’
Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway said Wednesday the remarkable animosity exhibited towards Attorney General William Barr is a consequence of the top federal law enforcement official’s commitment to holding those accountable who perpetuated the great Russia hoax.
“The reason why people don’t like Attorney General William Barr is because he is attempting to hold people accountable for one of the most lawless things that have been done in the history of the country,” Hemingway said on Fox News’ “Ingraham Angle.”
“Which was this Russia collusion hoax. An attempt to take down the elected president of the country to harm international relations, and to use all the tools of the intelligence services to do this. That was a horrible thing, and Barr has said it clearly and that’s why they don’t like him.”

Obama Holdovers with Islamist Connections Still Employed by the DoJ
What’s with all the Obama holdovers who can still be found throughout the Trump administration? It is now just a little over three months before the 2020 presidential election, and despite an alarming amount of evidence of Obama holdovers still in the Washington bureaucracy, working hard to block Trump policies, all too many of these saboteurs are still in place. One of them is an appeaser, capitulator, and Muslim Brotherhood stooge named Eric W. Treene.
The Justice Department’s “Religious Freedom in Focus” is “a periodic email update about the Civil Rights Division’s religious liberty and religious discrimination cases.” It lists as a contact the Special Counsel for Religious Discrimination, Eric W. Treene. I exposed Treene’s subservience to Muslim organizations linked to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood over eight years ago. What’s Eric Treene still doing there?
Back in January 2012, after receiving a huge box (in response to my Freedom of Information Act request) full of documents relating to the Justice Department’s interactions with Muslim groups linked to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, I wrote that what struck me almost immediately was the casual familiarity between the Muslim groups including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), which has admitted its ties to the Brotherhood and Hamas, although it claims that it is no longer connected with either, and senior officials of the Department of Justice, all the way up to Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez. They discuss lunch, vacations, job changes -- always with the Muslim Brotherhood groups pushing their narrative, even in these casual exchanges.
Even more striking was the servile demeanor of Eric Treene, who was then listed as Special Counsel for the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, and the demanding condescension of Muslim Brotherhood operatives. Muslim and Arab operatives treat Treene and Co. like an errand boy, asking them for email addresses of other contacts and setting them to perform the most menial gofer duties. The DoJ even takes lunch orders and picks up the tab, and in some cases asks them how much money they need for a little soiree they’re holding. It is astonishing.

Before too long, the woke will eat their own
The self-styled "woke," whether they know it by name or not, are believers in critical race theory. It's an insidious philosophy picking up (even more) steam and spreading, virus-like, in America. To borrow a Jordan Peterson phrase, it's an "unsupported ideologically predicated theory" inspired by cultural Marxism. Ideologies, generally, are simple ideas, disguised as science or philosophy, that purport to explain the complexity of the world and offer remedies that will perfect it. Ideologues are people who pretend they know how to "make the world a better place" before they've taken care of their own chaos within[.] ... Ideologies are substitutes for true knowledge and ideologues are always dangerous when they come to power, because a simple-minded I-know-it-all approach is no match for the complexity of existence. Critical race theory sees skin color first and foremost. From Victor Davis Hanson:
The '60s protests were for racial assimilation and integration to reify Martin Luther King Jr.'s agenda of making race incidental, not essential, to the American mindset. Not so with today's cultural revolution. It seeks to ensure that racial difference is the foundation of American life, dividing the country between supposed non-white victims and purported white victimizers, past and present.
Woke-ism is cult-like. Its adherents are the product of a half-century of successful communist propaganda and ideological subversion campaigns plus decades of anti-America-, anti-white-themed indoctrination in our cultural and educational institutions. Woke-ist jargon is ever-growing, and the woke's gospel is currently a bestseller written, ironically, by an "American capitalist marketing genius."

In Unprecedented Move, Congress Proposes Taxpayer-Funded Bailout Of $550 Billion CMBS Industry
Well, with everyone and everything else getting a bailout, may as well go all the way.
Two months after we reported that the state of California is trying to turn centuries of finance on its head by allowing businesses to walk away from commercial leases - in other words to make commercial debt non-recourse - a move the California Business Properties Association said "could cause a financial collapse", attempts to bail out commercial lenders have reached the Federal level, with the WSJ reporting that lawmakers have introduced a bill to provide cash to struggling hotels and shopping centers that weren’t able to pause mortgage payments after the coronavirus shut down the U.S. economy.
The bill would set up a government-backed funding vehicle which companies could tap to stay current on their mortgages. It is meant in particular to help those who borrowed in the $550 billion CMBS market in which mortgages are re-packaged into bonds and sold to Wall Street. What it really represents, is a bailout of the only group of borrowers that had so far not found access to the Fed's various generous rescue facilities: and that's where Congress comes in.
To be sure, the commercial real estate market is imploding, and as we reported at the start of the month, some 10% of loans in commercial mortgage-backed securities were 30 or more days delinquent at the end of June, including nearly a quarter of loans tied to the hard-hit hotel industry, according to Trepp LLC.

The Biggest Fraud Ever, Part 1: The Hocus "Science" Behind Lockdowns
Fraud (from 14th century Latin) n – deceit, trickery, intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender legal rights: and art of deceiving or misrepresenting; imposter, cheat, one who is not who that person pretends to be: something that is not what it appears to be
Hoax (probable contraction of hocus, circa 1796) n - an act intended to trick or dupe: something accepted or established by fraud or fabrication; v – to trick into believing or accepting as genuine something false and often preposterous
Swindle (from Old English, coined circa 1782, “to vanish”) v – to take money or property by fraud or deceit.
- “Great Hoaxes, Swindles, Scandals, Cons, Stings and Scams” Joyce Madison, 1992
Frauds often have powerful counter-narratives.
When Wirecard went straight from a DAX-30 €12bn capitalisation to insolvency in June, we wondered not only why it had taken so long for the auditor to seek confirmation of cash balances but why so many investors had been hoodwinked for so long by its empty claims to have been a legitimate player at the epicentre of the digital payments industry. We had also long been inclined to believe that $4bn FTSE-100 member NMC Healthcare’s management had been siphoning off shareholders’ assets (and that the same was true of its smaller sister “fintech” company Finablr), but were bemused to see continued institutional demand for insider share placings and belief in faked takeover rumours, right up until the declared insolvency in March.
Whilst we think there is plentiful potential for further stock-market flops it is time to consider whether these serious corporate failings have now been dwarfed by the unnecessary damage caused by the “science” behind lockdown and the current parallel focus on a vaccine as the sole long-term COVID solution.

Jim Jordan Asks Rep. Jamie Raskin Why His Wife Unmasked Michael Flynn
House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Wednesday, during a contentious exchange at a hearing, asked fellow committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) why his wife, a former Treasury Department official, unmasked Michael Flynn.
Jordan had just finished questioning Google CEO Sundar Pichai over the search engine’s bias against conservatives and whether he would commit to not interfering in the upcoming election to help Joe Biden.
After Jordan finished his questioning, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) called his concerns “fringe conspiracy theories.”
Jordan responded, “We have the email, there is no fringe conspiracy,” in reference to an email by a Google employee discussing steps they had taken to boost Latino voter turnout in “key states” in 2016.
Subcommittee Chairman David Cicilline (D-RI) then began scolding Jordan for interrupting during Scanlon’s time to speak. Raskin then yelled to Jordan, “Put your mask on.”
Jordan fired back: “Mr. Raskin, you want to talk about masks? Why would the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury unmask Michael Flynn’s name?”
Jordan was referring to Raskin’s wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, who was one of the Obama appointees who requested the unmasking of Flynn, who was the incoming national security adviser at the time.

The Pandemic Has Closed Public Restrooms, and Many Have Nowhere to Go
SEATTLE — When courier Brent Williams makes his daily deliveries around the city here, he runs into one persistent problem: There’s almost nowhere to use the restroom. Most public buildings are closed under the pandemic, and restaurants and coffee shops that have shifted to carryout service won’t let him use their facilities.
“It’s hard to find any place where I can use the restroom,” Williams said, speaking outside a library in the Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood that has reopened its restrooms to the public.
The library is one of five citywide to have opened their doors, and other parts of the city have almost no options for those who need to relieve themselves or wash their hands.
“I understand why some people downtown will duck into an alleyway,” he said. “There’s nowhere else to go, and I’m not going to do it in my pants.”
The lack of restrooms has become an issue for delivery workers, taxi and ride-hailing drivers and others who make their living outside of a fixed office building. For the city’s homeless, it’s part of an ongoing problem that preceded COVID-19.
“It’s gone from bad to worse,” said Eric, who lives in an encampment near Interstate 5. (Eric asked to be identified only by his first name.) “It’s definitely much, much harder.”
A nearby pet supply store used to let homeless people use the restroom, but that changed during the pandemic. Conditions improved markedly when the city placed a portable restroom and handwashing station near the camp, but Eric said many more parts of town still lack similar amenities.

Berlin Building Renovation Project Grounded; Developers Opt Not To Purchase Property
BERLIN – Plans for a major downtown building renovation have reportedly come to a halt.
A project that would have included the renovation and restoration of the Burbage properties, which include storefronts on Pitts Street and Main Street, is not moving forward according to town officials.
Mayor Gee Williams said the project, which was proposed by Frank Willing and Chris Davis and received approval from the town’s historic district commission in June, had encountered unforeseen costs.
“I was informed Friday by Mr. Willing that they’d decided not to go forward with the contract,” Williams said. “Apparently once they did their inspections and saw what structural improvements were needed in addition to the renovations they had planned, it just got more costly.”

Tom Fitton: Sedition in the Obama Oval Office?
Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and their top intelligence officers huddled in the Oval Office shortly before Donald Trump was inaugurated to discuss what they would do about this new President they despised. Now we aim to find out more about this conspiracy.
We just filed a FOIA suit against the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) for all records related to the January 5, 2017, meeting at the Obama Oval Office during which the Steele Dossier and the investigation of General Flynn were discussed (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice and ODNI (No. 1:20-cv-01947)).
The Oval Office meeting reportedly included President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, FBI Director James Comey, CIA Director John Brennan, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and other Obama administration political and law enforcement officials.
At least two records describing the meeting – a January 20, 2017, memo Rice sent to herself and a set of notes taken by FBI counterespionage chief Peter Strzok – have been declassified and made public. Sally Yates also detailed the meeting to Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Portland fining Feds $500 every 15 Min. for Fence around Courthouse
Portland is fining the federal government $500 every 15 minutes that a fence stays up around part of the federal courthouse under attack by rioters — because the fence blocks a bike lane, the Oregonian reported.
The fence has been a nightly focal point as rioters have been knocking it down, cutting through it, and climbing over it in order to get to the courthouse entrance.
Federal officers have been guarding the courthouse for weeks and pushing back against rioters' use of explosives, firecrackers, lasers, and other weapons.

US Mint reduces Silver, Gold Coin supply to purchasers
The U.S. Mint has reduced the volume of gold and silver coins it’s distributing to authorized purchasers as the coronavirus pandemic slows production, a document seen by Bloomberg shows.
The Mint’s West Point complex in New York is taking measures to prevent the virus from spreading among its employees, and that will probably slow coin production there for the next 12 to 18 months, the document shows. The facility is no longer able to produce gold and silver coins at the same time, forcing it to choose one metal over the other, according to the document, which was presented to companies authorized to buy coins from the Mint last week.
The West Point facility is one of the primary sites for bullion production, along with the San Francisco complex, which only partially reopened in May after shutting down earlier in the year. During the 2019 fiscal year, the U.S. Mint overall produced 18.8 million ounces of bullion, according to its most recent annual report.
A spokesman for the Mint didn’t immediately have comment.

How the HEALS Act's 70% wage replacement in unemployment would work
Performance artists rally in front of the the Massachusetts State House in Boston for extended FPUC, the extra $600 provided on top of unemployment during COVID-19 pandemic, on July 20, 2020.
David L. Ryan | The Boston Globe | Getty Images
The new proposed $200 enhancement will work in the same way the previous $600 bonus from the CARES Act worked: Workers will receive their regular state-administered unemployment aid, which ranges from an average $497 in Washington to just $44 in Oklahoma on its own, and will get an additional $200 per week paid by the federal government on top.
What comes next, however, is different. The Republican proposal says that by October, the flat $200 federal boost will be replaced with a payment that, when combined with regular state benefits, will recover 70% of workers' previous wages. The replacement rate will be calculated either by a formula specified in the bill or by a state proposing an alternative method and receiving approval from the Secretary of Labor. That means the method of calculating a 70% replacement wage could vary by state. Boosts will be capped at $500 per week.

Tucker warns 'fraud' Kamala Harris or 'unapologetic,' 'extreme' Karen Bass could run US if Biden wins
Both California lawmakers believed to be on Biden's shortlist of potential running mates
Tucker Carlson opened Wednesday night's edition of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" by taking a closer look at Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., two lawmakers believed to be on the shortlist to become Joe Biden's running mate.
"Joe Biden cannot govern the country. He isn't capable of it," said Carlson, who cited reports the former vice president may only serve one term if elected. "So Biden's running mate will be the most consequential VP pick in American history."
Turning first to Harris, Biden's onetime rival for the Democratic nomination, the host paid particular attention to remarks she made during a May 2019 appearance on CNN.
"I am opposed to any policy that would deny in our country any human being from access to public safety, public education, or public health, period," the senator said in response to a question about whether she supported providing health care for illegal immigrants.

Black conservative journalist stabbed at Portland protest, report says
Andrew Duncomb, a Black conservative journalist, said he was stabbed during a recent protest in Portland after word leaked out that he was going to be there and he confronted a person he said was stalking him, a report said.
“I was stabbed for being a conservative journalist," Duncomb, who goes by 'Black Rebel' on Twitter, told the Oregonian newspaper.
Portland has seen 62 consecutive nights of protests and demonstrations stemming from the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. Duncomb told the paper that he was there to document the scene on the ground and prove that it was not “the feds creating the problems.”
He was there with some friends on Saturday at around 2 a.m. when he said he noticed that they were being followed. The paper posted a video that reportedly showed Duncomb approach the man from behind, put his arm on the person's shoulder and say, “Hey, buddy, why are you following us?”

Twitter Locks Trump Jr Account For Posting Press Conference By Pro-Hydroxychloroquine Doctors
Twitter locked the account of Donald Trump Jr. for approximately 12 hours, after the president's son posted a viral video of doctors touting Hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19.
BREAKING: @Twitter & @jack have suspended @DonaldJTrumpJr for posting a viral video of medical doctors talking about Hydroxychloroquine.
Big Tech is the biggest threat to free expression in America today & they're continuing to engage in open election interference - full stop. pic.twitter.com/7dJbauq43O— Andrew Surabian (@Surabees) July 28, 2020
The press conference, which received over 14 million views before it was blacklisted and scrubbed by Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, featured members of America's Frontline Doctors - a recently formed advocacy group which claims that "American life has fallen casualty to a massive disinformation campaign" against Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) - a decades-old malaria drug used by India and several other countries as part of their front-line treatment of the novel coronavirus, yet which has shown mixed efficacy in studies.
The blacklisting began on Facebook following a complaint by New York Times columnist Kevin Roose.
The #2 most-engaged post on Facebook today is a Breitbart video of a group of doctors claiming that hydroxychloroquine is "a cure for Covid" and "you don't need a mask."
14 million views in 6 hours. (For scale, Plandemic got ~8 million in a few days.)— Kevin Roose (@kevinroose) July 28, 2020
After which a Facebook spokesman said that it was removed for "sharing false information about cures and treatments for COVID-19."
The video appears to have been taken down from Facebook.— Kevin Roose (@kevinroose) July 28, 2020
Social media companies are censoring videos of Dr. Stella Immanuel and the other doctors involved in real-time because that’s what Democrats want them to do. Many doctors & studies say hydroxychloroquine works. They don’t want @realDonaldTrump to be right. pic.twitter.com/v2xHu0hsM4— Robby Starbuck (@robbystarbuck) July 28, 2020

"Like Nothing We’ve Ever Seen": Imminent Eviction Wave Is Coming To These States
The eviction moratorium expired last Friday nearly four months after the US economy effectively shutdown due to the covid pandemic, and more than 12 million renters - all behind on rent payments because of the virus-induced recession - are now at imminent risk of getting booted to the curb.
This Friday, some 25 million Americans will no longer receive their weekly $600 federal unemployment checks, and the next round of government handouts, currently discussed by Republicans and Democrats, could see benefits slashed from $600 to $200 (or be nothing at all if no deal is reached in Congress). This would crush household finances across middle-class America, resulting in an even higher number of households unable to pay their rent bill in the months ahead.
That said, Trump's top economic advisor Larry Kudlow, who has religiously pumped stocks with meaningless headlines any time the S&P is even barely in the red, recently said an extension for the eviction moratorium program could be seen. But what if there isn't one?
In late July, more than 31 million Americans collected unemployment benefits of some form. The economic recovery reversed in late June, as the next crisis among households looms.
“It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen,” said John Pollock, coordinator of the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel.
In 2016, there were 2.3 million evictions, Pollock said.
“There could be that many evictions in August,” he said.
On Sunday, food bank lines reemerged as people's benefits ran out. The number of jobless Americans is staggering and downright, depressionary, suggesting no labor market recovery this year or next.
With a fiscal cliff unfolding, benefits set to run out, and a rebound in the economy reversing, Household Pulse Data from mid-July outlines an even gloomier rent crisis unfolding.

Miami Police Set Up ‘Mask Traps,’ Issue $100 Fines For Wearing Improperly
“No one is safe from Miami-Dade’s new $100 no-mask fine. Not even people wearing masks,” said theMiami Herald headline.
Two weeks ago, officials in Miami-Dade County announced it would start issuing $100 fines for people for not wearing masks in public. But as usual, the over-the-top edict has been misapplied, with Florida media outlets jammed with reports about people being fined for wearing masks improperly, dropping the mask to eat or drink, or taking it off once safely outside a store.
“On July 17, Johanna Gianni said she had just finished shopping at a Publix in North Miami Beach and was walking back to her car when she took off the face mask she had worn inside the store. Almost immediately, a police officer came up to her and told her she was getting a ticket for not wearing a mask in a public space,” The Herald reported. “Despite showing the officer she had a mask in her hand, Gianni still got the citation. She says it felt like a set-up to catch shoppers after they followed the rules where it really mattered, inside the grocery. The parking lot was nearly empty, she said, and no one was around her when she took the mask off.”
Dean Gonzalez said he was wearing his face mask when he stopped at a North Miami Beach supermarket, but he received a $110 citation anyway.

Trump Admin halts new DACA Applications
'There are important policy reasons that may warrant the full rescission of the DACA policy'
The Trump administration on Tuesday announced that it was halting applications to anObama-era program that shields some illegal immigrants from deportations as it considers the policy's future -- just weeks after the Supreme Court shut down efforts to halt the program.
The Supreme Court ruled last month that the administration's decision to rescind the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was done in an "arbitrary and capricious" manner although they did not rule on the merits of the program itself.
As a result, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Tuesday that as it considers the future of the program, it will reject all initial requests for protection, as well as applications for Employment Authorization Documents.
“As the Department continues looking at the policy and considers future action, the fact remains that Congress should act on this matter,” acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said in a statement. “There are important policy reasons that may warrant the full rescission of the DACA policy.”
It is also renewing existing protections for only one year, rather than two.
Trump campaigned on repealing DACA in 2016 and has also floated a legislative fix for the program as part of a broader immigration deal.

Senate HEAL Act includes another $1,200 Stimulus Check
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools, or HEALS, Act Monday night, the upper chamber's long-awaited coronavirus stimulus package. The $1 trillion bill includes an extra $200 per week in unemployment insurance, down from $600 in the earlier CARES Act, and more money for schools, among other measures.
The bill also proposes a second $1,200 economic impact payment. Thesecond round of checks will follow the same eligibility formula as the first round, according to a memo from the Senate Finance Committee: Qualifying individuals earning a gross adjusted income up to $75,000 per year in 2019, and couples earning $150,000, will receive the full $1,200 or $2,400, respectively. From there, the checks will be reduced by $5 for every $100 in income, phasing out completely at $99,000 and $198,000.
Individuals who have no income and those whose income comes from programs such as SSI benefits are still eligible for the full rebate amount.
Individuals will also receive $500 for each dependent, just like under the CARES Act. Unlike the first time around, though, there is no age cap on the extra payment. The CARES Act capped the dependent payment at age 17, excluding many college students and other adult dependents from receiving a check.

Election Interference: Google Purges Breitbart from Search Results
A few days after the 2016 election, at an internal meeting later leaked to Breitbart News, top Google executives, including Sundar Pichai, Sergey Brin, and Kent Walker, lamented President Trump’s victory, comparing Trump voters to “extremists” and discussing their desire to make Trump’s election and the populist movement a “blip” in history.
True to their word, four years later, Google is deliberately working to interfere with the reelection of Trump in 2020.
There are several ways in which Google is interfering in the 2020 election, but this article will focus primarily on one of them: political search bias.

National Teacher Union supports strikes over reopening plans
One of the nation’s largest teachers unions is authorizing its members to strike if their schools plan to reopen without proper safety measures
One of the nation’s largest teachers unions is authorizing its members to strike if their schools plan to reopen without proper safety measures in the middle of the global pandemic.
The American Federation of Teachers, which represents 1.7 million school employees, issued a resolution on Tuesday saying it will support any local chapter that decides to strike over reopening plans.
In providing its blessing, the union is also offering local chapters access to its financial and legal resources as they navigate a return to the classroom. Union officials said they will provide legal support, communications support and staffing to local chapters that vote to strike.
Although the measure says strikes should be considered only as a “last resort,” it lists conditions the organization wants met for schools to reopen. It says buildings should reopen only in areas with lower virus rates, and only if schools require masks, update ventilation systems and make changes to space students apart.
In announcing the measure, the union’s president blasted President Donald Trump for pressuring schools to reopen even as the virus continues to surge. Randi Weingarten called Trump’s response “chaotic and catastrophic,” saying it has left teachers afraid.
“We will fight on all fronts for the safety of our students and their educators,” Weingarten said. “But if authorities don’t protect the safety and health of those we represent and those we serve, as our executive council voted last week, nothing is off the table.”

Harley Davidson shares tank as Coronavirus spurs quarterly loss
Harley-Davidson on Tuesday reported an unexpected quarterly loss due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, sending its shares sliding more than 9 percent in morning trade.
It also unveiled a restructuring strategy that aims to shift focus back to more profitable motorcycles and core markets such as the US.
Harley has been struggling for years to grow sales beyond baby boomers. The company has not posted retail sales growth in the US, its biggest market, in the past 14 quarters.
The pandemic has exacerbated its challenges.
In the latest quarter, U.S. retail sales plunged 27 percent year-on-year, the steepest fall in at least six years. Overall, motorcycles revenue dived 53 percent year-on-year to $669 million, hurt by the temporary suspension of production due to COVID-19 related lockdowns.

Nadler’s bid to exploit Portland against Team Trump another embarrassing failure
New York’s own Rep. Jerry Nadler was in two car crashes Tuesday. The first left him uninjured but delayed the start of the House Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General William Barr. In the second, he humiliated himself with his long-winded, unhinged attacks on the AG.
Nadler’s opening statement ran over 1,000 words, all to insist that Barr “has twisted the Department of Justice into a shadow of its former self, capable of serving most Americans only after it has served those in power.”
Barr has been “flooding federal law enforcement into the streets of American cities, against the wishes of the state and local leaders of those cities, to forcefully and unconstitutionally suppress dissent,” Nadler claims.

John Solomon: ‘Joe Biden Was the Architect’ of U.S.-Funded ‘Military Espionage Outpost’ in Russia
Former Vice President Joe Biden was the “architect” of the Obama administration’s support for the development of a Russian technology initiative known as Skolkovo, explained John Solomon, editor in chief of Just the News and author ofFallout: Nuclear Bribes, Russian Spies, and the Washington Lies that Enriched the Clinton and Biden Dynasties, offering his comments in an interview on Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’sBreitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.
Breitbart News reported on the Skolkovo initiative in 2016:
As part of her duties during the so-called Russian reset, then-Sec. of State Hillary Clinton led the way on U.S. involvement in a Russian government technology initiative that was intended to be the Russian equivalent of America’s Silicon Valley known as Skolkovo. The “innovation city,” located outside Moscow, has some 30,000 workers in state-of-the-art facilities under strict government control.
Clinton’s State Dept. recruited U.S. tech giants like Google, Cisco, Intel. Indeed, out of 28 U.S., European, and Russian companies that participated in Skolkovo, 17 of them were Clinton Foundation donors or paid for speeches by Bill Clinton.
However, as involvement in Skolkovo by Clinton cronies increased, so, too, did the danger for the technology coming out of the Russian tech mecca to be used for Russian military purposes.

Former Vice President Joe Biden unveiled his proposal on Tuesday to address racial inequities in American public life and the economy, pledging to spend upwards of $150 billion on the endeavor.
Biden, the presumptive Democrat nominee, spoke at length before an audience in Wilmington, Delaware, about his desire to build a post-coronavirus economy that was stronger and more “inclusive” than ever before.

When asked if he will investigate President Trump for pardoning Roger Stone, Barr answered, “Why should I?”

With Colleges Closed, College Towns Can't Pay Their Bills
When students went home in March, some college towns lost half their populations. Tax and utility revenues have dropped and those cities are still wondering what sort of economies they'll have in the fall.
Last summer, the city council in Champaign, Ill., increased the local food and beverage tax for the first time in two decades. It was a substantial hike – jumping from 0.5 percent to 2.5 percent – and was expected to bring in $6 million to pay for more firefighters and school programs for at-risk kids.
The tax increase took effect on March 1. The University of Illinois – far and away Champaign’s largest employer – shut down in-person instruction on March 17. Business at bars and restaurants dried up immediately.
“All of that is gone,” says Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen. “None of our new programs or anticipated revenue are there.”
All cities are having budget problems, but college towns are confronting a unique set of challenges. In many cases, half or two-thirds of their population abruptly packed up and left, months ahead of their usual summer migration. “When the students went away for spring break, we waved goodbye but expected them to come back,” says Mayor Leeman Kessler of Gambier, Ohio, home of Kenyon College.
With more universities canceling in-person classes for the fall semester every day, there’s great uncertainty about how many students will actually return in the coming weeks, or how long they’ll be able to stay. “As of now, Indiana University is one of the universities that will hold, in part, face-to-face classes,” says Yaël Ksander, communications director for Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton. “But, yes, everyone is apprehensive about what the fall brings – and by fall, I mean three weeks from now with the return of students.”
Even where students are coming back, homecoming, football and other large events are mostly being canceled. On Wednesday, Clemson University announced it was starting the fall semester online, at least for the first month. The school’s athletic conference, the ACC, is still deciding whether to play a limited season.

Banks Slash Credit Card Limits As Economic Crisis Not Over
While the Federal Reserve and the Trump administration plow trillions of dollars into corporate America, buying investment-grade bonds and rocketing the stock market to new highs, there's a much different story playing out of economic hardships for the everyday American.
There's a massive pullback by credit card issuers at the moment, reducing credit limits and canceling accounts of consumers.
CompareCards' new survey shows the economic fallout from the virus-induced recession is far from over. About 25% of Americans with credit cards had an account involuntarily canceled between mid-May to mid-July, while 33% said card companies slashed their credit limit.
About 70 million people – more than one-third of credit cardholders – said they involuntarily had a credit limit reduced or a credit card account closed altogether in a 60-day period stretching from mid-May to mid-July.
The report is a clear sign that credit card issuers are still closing cards and reducing credit limits on cardholders in huge numbers, months after an April 2020 CompareCards survey showed that nearly 50 million cardholders had a card closed or credit limit reduced in the first month in which the coronavirus pandemic took hold of the country. - CompareCards

WATCH: AG Barr Calls Out Democrats for Not Condemning Mob Violence
Attorney General William Barr called out Democrats on Tuesday during a House Judiciary Committee hearing for failing to condemn mob violence and attacks on the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse in Portland, Oregon in recent weeks.
“What makes me concerned for the country is [that] this is the first time in my memory that the leaders of one of our great two political parties, the Democratic Party, are not coming out and condemning mob violence and the attack on federal courts,” Barr said.
“Why can’t we just say: ‘Violence against federal courts has to stop?’ Could we hear something like that?”
Barr was testifying about the federal law enforcement response to protect the courthouse, which has been vandalized and firebombs by what Democrats, including former Vice President Joe Biden, have called“peaceful protesters.”
Those “protesters” have also attacked the federal officials defending the building.
Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who claimed on Sunday that the violence was a “myth,” did not respond by condemning the violence, but adjourned the hearing for a five-minute hearing instead.

I wish those humans would stop spoiling the view! Cheetahs are snapped surveying their territory on a safari truck roof
Getting close to the magnificent wild animals of the African bush is what a safari trip is all about...but maybe not this close.
A pair of cheetahs decided the roof of a safari truck was the best place to survey their territory, providing a wonderful, if a little nerve-racking, opportunity for photographers aboard the truck.
One of the big cats also strolled along the roof to take a closer look at the tourists.
