Another Wintry Weekend Coming? Be Ready!
Currently, we feel this has the all the earmarks of a classic winter storm. No, it won't set any snowfall records, but it could cause a lot of disruption in travel later this week.
We also know that this will be a cold storm with temperatures in the lower 20s and teens in the areas getting heavy snow.

'Bonanza' Star Pernell Roberts Dead At Age 81
According to his attorney, he died at his Malibu, Calif., home Sunday at age 81.
He also played chief surgeon, Dr. John MacIntyre, the title character on "Trapper John, M.D." (1979-1986).
Roberts was also known for his activism, which included participation in the Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965 and pressuring NBC to refrain from hiring whites to portray minority characters.
Roberts, a native of Waycross, Ga., spent much of his adult life "pursuing his dream of equality for all," according to a family statement released by his lawyer, Richard Stone.
"On the set of 'Bonanza,' he protested the use of all white crews and guest stars, finding some support but never enough to satisfy his sense of outrage," the statement said.
Roberts left the popular western after the end of the sixth season in 1965, although "Bonanza" stayed in production for another eight years. The storyline kept open the possibility of his return to the Ponderosa ranch. But Roberts never returned.

Comments
We are receiving at least 200 comments a day that are just plain childish and extremely immature. If they are not on topic, if they are threatening, if they are in all capital letters, if they have curse words in them, we're not publishing them.
Salisbury News has come a long way Folks but I have to share with you the fact that a hand full of people just won't seem to let up.
That being said, there are also some Left Wing Bloggers out there who do not have anywhere near the audience Salisbury News has. That being said, they attempt to send their agenda/messages through Salisbury News and we simply reject them as well. Considering we know where its coming from, we know they have their own place in the Blogosphere and if they want to push their agenda they have a place to do so.
On one Post alone today they have sent in the exact same message 11 times now and we keep rejecting it. Little do all of these fool know, every time they send in a comment it adds to our page view count and our Alexa numbers keep dropping. It doesn't mean if I reject them we don't get the hit. So if you have any smarts whatsoever you'll think twice about sending them.
OK, I've said my peace. Now I'll get back to Blogging.

Date of Occurrence: Monday, January 25, 2010, at approximately 12:45 a.m.
Suspect(s): John J. Morley, 37, of Syracuse Drive in Newark, Delaware
Resume: At about 12:45 a.m. this morning, the State Police 911 dispatch center, RECOM, sent patrol officers to the Rascals Restaurant for the report of a burglar being detained by the business owner.
Troopers arrived on the scene and took custody of the bandit in question, John J. Morley, Jr. Officers then conducted a check of the exterior and located a 2004 Saturn Vue with a shattered windshield. Inside, Troopers found a 30-year-old female who was suffering from an obvious facial injury.
The female advised that Morley was her boyfriend and she had just picked him up a short time ago in North Wilmington after his car broke down. He then ordered her to drive him to the Rascals Restaurant and wait for him outside.

It was determined that once Morley and his girlfriend arrived at Rascals, he got out of the car and damaged an exterior window to gain entry into the business. He responded to the lower level of the restaurant and confronted Morley he held him at bay until officers arrived.

Chiefs Of Police Association Engaging In Phone Solicitations
Just got a phone call from someone claiming to be from the MD Chiefs of Police Association.
This was on my business line.
They were soliciting donations for some sort of child identification program. While they were on the phone, I googled their web site, and discovered there was nothing mentioned there about this solicitation.
Needless to say, I did not offer any donation.
I called their number listed on the web site, and the fellow there confirmed that they had hired a marketing firm to solicit donations on their behalf. I informed them that without this activity posted on their site, it looks like a scam when someone calls asking for money under their name.
In any case, I really don't like dealing with "marketing firms" a/k/a "telemarketers" as their take is usually higher than what I would consider reasonable.

Fire Department Boat Questioned
The department's finances were under scrutiny before the speedboat matter arose. But department administrators argue that the boat won't be financed by taxpayers and will allow quicker response to water emergencies.
“We've always responded to any sort of river rescue,” said Capt. Jim Gentile, a Fire Department spokesman. “But our idea is if we can get there faster, it will help the public.”
Critics say the area has enough resources to cover water rescue situations, and they worry that public funds might be needed to maintain, store and staff the boat.
Councilman Franklin Thompson said he plans to vote against the purchase.
Councilwoman Jean Stothert declined to say how she'll vote, but said she can't see a benefit because the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and other agencies have the Missouri River covered.
“We have no idea what the cost of the program will be,” Stothert said. “The purchase of the boat is small, compared to maintenance costs.”
Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning met with Stothert and City Council staff last week about the boat proposal. He said that at least six agencies, including his, have boats available for rescue operations.
Dunning said his office fields an average of six to eight calls a month between May and September for water operations.
Almost none of the calls are for actual rescues, he said. He could think of only two rescue calls his staff has handled in the past 16 years. Other calls were to recover weapons or vehicles used in crimes, or an occasional body in the river after a suicide or boating accident.
“There's no shortage of boats,” Dunning said.
Gentile wouldn't comment on that point but said the boat would protect anyone who needed it. “If anybody uses the river, it's our obligation just to make sure that they're safe.”
The Fire Department has bought about $21,000 in equipment for the boat. Those items did not require City Council approval because the various costs fell below the level at which council approval is necessary, Stothert said.
She stressed that the issue is not the cost of the boat. Rather, she said, it is the unknown cost of staffing, training and maintenance.
Gentile said grants and private money would cover those expenses.
Hats Off Motorsports submitted the winning bid to provide the boat. The twin-engine, 21-foot Yamaha sport boat can seat nine people and run in as little as 2½ feet of water. Its $34,000 price tag was the lowest of two bids received that met the Fire Department's list of 25 specifications.

The Foxwell Family Thanks The Community
Our family wishes to express our profound gratitude to the hundreds of wonderful people in our community who attended the funeral service for our beloved “Haleybug.” We especially appreciate Sarah’s friends and classmates who attended and shared their precious memories with us. We are very grateful to Pastor Bill Warren and especially to Mr. Keith Downey and Mr. John Holloway of Holloway Funeral Home for guiding us through the decision process and helping us to mourn Sarah privately and to celebrate her life publicly.

Says It All
1) a new poll revealing a vast majority of investors see Obama as anti-business
2) Obama declaiming on what he has done and what he will do to create jobs
3) After a year Obama still has not yet figured out that his promiscuous talk of higher income, payroll, healthcare, and inheritance taxes, serial demonization of finance and business, and all sorts of new regulations, create a psychological climate in which the employer pulls in his horns and decides to ride things out—and this individual reaction is being repeated millions of times over, energized by the pique at everything trivial from Van Jones to apologies abroad to “Bush did it.”
What Did They Expect?
Now that the voters of Massachusetts have splashed our hypnotized young god back into his own reflecting pool, it is almost surreal to follow the left’s sudden petulance and occasional hysteria — akin to the climate of 2005-6 among some of the right when the once pro-Iraq War neocons began bailing and heading for the exits.
Then some of the most vehement pro-war sounding zealots suddenly swore that they had never supported the invasion at all. I think I called it at the time “my victory; your defeat” to explain their chameleonism between 2003 and 2006.
This present liberal bloodletting will continue, as Obama’s polls dip even more, and the next liberal Coakley appears in the political cross-hairs. The left neither quite understands the populist outrage nor would have a clue how to deflate if it did. (One of the most painful things to watch was Obama’s anti-Scott Brown stump speech: a perfect storm of gaffes in which he showed no knowledge of Brown’s record, slipped into his faux-black-pulpit cadences, did the old “Bush did it” whine, made silly jokes about pick-up trucks (can one imagine Obama driving up and down Illinois in one?), and reflected once again the Obama brand of thinking that the people are deluded and must be warned by a philosopher-king not to do what is not good for them.)
There is a pent-up fury that is a dividend of a year’s bad economic news, the constant presidential condescension, and the hubris of false hope and change—and we have not seen the extent of it yet. The people are weary of being talked down to as if they don’t understand climate change, as if they don’t get the inside scoop on deficit spending, as if they can’t appreciate the brilliance of massive new government entitlements, as if they need moral sermons hourly on their race/class/gender shortcomings, and as if they can’t quite fathom why KSM, the terrorist warrior who planned the killing of 3,000 Americans and declared al Qaeda at war with us, must be tried like a bank robber in New York. (Perhaps during the Battle of the Bulge we should have shipped back captured German saboteurs to New York for trials.)

MARYLAND COUNTIES CONCERNED ABOUT STATE MANDATED STORMWATER MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS
The MACo panelists stated they had two concerns with the regulations: (1) the need to grandfather long-term staged projects; and (2) the requirements for redevelopment may make revitalization and Smart Growth projects unfeasible. The testimony lasted over three hours and the MDE conference room was packed with over 200 people, including House Environmental Matters Committee Chair Maggie McIntosh and members of the Environmental Matters Committee.
These new regulations are the latest attempt by state officials to kill growth and development in Maryland.

Wall Street Agreeing With Main Street’s Anger
Investors seemingly grow frustrated with Obama’s economic policies
NEW YORK - It was the fat cats' fault before. But now it's becoming Obama's.
With the unemployment rate stubbornly high, people were already shifting blame for their economic woes to President Barack Obama one year into his presidency. Last week, investors joined them.
For 10 months, the stock market climbed at breathtaking speed. But the Dow Jones industrial average suffered its worst week since dropping to a 12-year low in early March. It fell 552 points Wednesday through Friday, including 216 on Friday.

Wicomico AFP Meeting Tuesday (1.26) 7pm Adams Ribs
With the Massachusetts Senate win of Scott Brown, the hostile government take over of our health care and the biggest expansion of the federal government appears to be DOA. Independents and Democrats in the most liberal state in the union sent a message to Washington and that was a resounding "NO" to nationalized health care. "NO" to out of control spending. "NO" to big government and a big "YES" to limited government and returning to our constitutional rights.
Come join Wicomico County's Americans For Prosperity to work for these changes in another blue state; Maryland. Just this month, Marylanders gathered from all over the state in Annapolis to say enough is enough, with all the big spending and we sent a loud and clear message to Governor O'Malley and all of our representatives. "Stop Spending our Taxes and Balance the Budget!"

Obama State Department Cites 'Outreach To Muslims' As Reason To Allow Two Muslim Scholars Into US
The Obama administration announced last week that it would allow two Muslim scholars into the country – lifting a ban on Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss national and professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford University, and Adam Habib of South Africa.
But the pro-Palestinian group cited by the U.S. government in denying Tariq Ramadan’s visa remains on the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of organizations sanctioned for their links to terrorism.
The Paris-based Commite de Bienfaisance et de Secours aux Palestiniens (CBSP) and its Swiss-based subsidiary Association de Secours Palestinien (ASP) were added to Treasury’s list in August 2003, after the U.S. government identified them as “primary fundraisers” in France and Switzerland for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.
“The group has collected large amounts of money from mosques and Islamic centers, which it then transfers to sub-organizations of Hamas,” the Treasury Department announced at the time.
Bill To Require ID At Ballot Box Advances In Va. House
The bill, which passed the House Privileges and Elections Committee on a 16-6 vote, would scrap a provision in state voting law that allows a person to sign a statement affirming his identity in lieu of showing ID.
Del. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Woodbridge, said the change would combat fraud at the ballot box. Opponents say it would serve only as a needless hindrance to exercising the right to vote.
"I think you would have to have been asleep for the last year continuously not to know there is voter fraud in the United States," said Lingamfelter, who sponsored the bill. "I think the last presidential election was a tsunami of voter fraud."
"How many times do you have to hear stories like the whole Dallas Cowboy defense being registered to vote illegally, before you start to scratch your head and say 'You know, I think we got a problem,' " he added, referring to a 2008 registration fraud scandal in Nevada.

A Comment Worthy Of A Post
I thought this crap stopped with Carl Peterson and Matt Craemer losing control of the the ball. I quess not.
The County Roads has been underpaid for so long it is embarssing. The Jail has been in National News in the wrong same thing. The teachers have been taken care of for sooooooo long. The deputies have taken one screwing after another by the County Council and Human Resources I am shocked they have not filed a unfair labor practice suit.
Actually every county worker who did not get FIFTY THOUSAND plus paid into their retirement account should file suit. Hell even contractual could get in on this one. Right Ed Baker and Council. Oh thats right Ed you can not give legal advise on this issue because you are the one that got the FIFTY THOUSAND bucks paid into your retirement.
Was that a bonus for screwing every man and women that wears a badge in this county. I sure hope not. I guess that fifty K was in Ricks lunch box ????
Darn my bad. Sorry fella for throwing you and the rest of the crooked ass politicians under the bus.
Is anyone listening "trash cans". We got furlough days and Ed Baker got Fifty K. W.T.F. is going on in wicomico. They took food off of your table and caught this guy up in the retirement system. WOW Maybe Sheila Dixon can come down and run the county. She is a saint compared to what we have right now. Furlough days but we do need a new Library.
Mike Lewis where do you stand on this. I have not seen or heard one word about this from you and it does affect your workers. Gary Mackes what about you. WCBOE what about you. Oh sorry B.O.E. that would be a cut for you guys. County Roads speak up. Health Dept. Corrections.
I think all the county employees need to contact the TEAMSTERS. Hellooooooo. They scared the crap out of the Chicken King for a reason. I guess sometimes you just have to go to Hell to fight the Devil. I am no fan of any labor union but you can only keep taking the beating by goverment for so long.
Mike Lewis if you sit on your hands here you will regret it. You are elected. They can not fire you. You are the the elected law of the county. I am by no means saying you are, but if you are, you will never be able to live with yourself. Do what is right and just here.
Demand an audit. Look into this rumor about Ed Baker and the FIFTY K put into his retirement account while you have deputies with the worst disbility in the state. Take action if it is true. The men and women who go out day in and day out fighting crime deserve it. Clean up that crooked cess pool located right behind your building. Demand the truth from your County Council on issues with your budget. All the county employees not just deputies are watching.
God Help this county when I retire or get fired and have no fear of reprisal.

One angry Wicomican.
SURPRISE... SURPRISE
Patrick Henry approached, punched him in the nose and shouted, "You wanted to end our liberties but you failed!"
James Madison followed, kicked him in the groin and said, "This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!" Thomas Jefferson was next, beat Zarqawi with a long cane and snarled, "It was evil men like you who inspired me to write the Declaration of Independence."
The beatings and thrashings continued as George Mason, James Monroe and 66 other early Americans unleashed their anger on the terrorist leader.
As Zarqawi lay bleeding and in pain, an Angel appeared. Zarqawi wept and said, "This is not what you promised me."
The Angel replied, "I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you in Heaven. What did you think I said?"
A Teacher Was Arrested
At a morning press conference, the Attorney General said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.
'"Al-Gebra is a problem for us," the Attorney General said. "They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values." They use secret code names like 'X' and 'Y' and refer to themselves as "unknowns", but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.
As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'.
When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President. It is believed that the Nobel Prize for Physics will follow.

Clocks In Heaven
He asked, "What are those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie Clock. Every time you tell a lie, the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man, "and whose clock is that?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved
twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his life."
"Where's President Obama's clock?" asked the man.
"Obama's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

Mexican Oysters
He asked the waiter, 'What is that you just served?' The waiter replied, 'Ah senor, you have excellent taste! Those are called Cojones de Toro, bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning. A delicacy!'
The cowboy said, 'What the heck, bring me an order..' The waiter replied, 'I am so sorry senor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy.'
The next morning, the cowboy returned, placed his order, and that evening was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After a few bites, inspecting his platter, he called to the waiter and said, 'These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday.'
The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied, 'Si, Senor. Sometimes the bull wins.
Ignite Sussex Comes To Dogfish Head
January 25, 2010
If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds?
That's the theory behind IGNITE, which was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then hundreds of 5 minute talks have been given across the world. There are thriving Ignite communities in Seattle, Portland, Paris, and NYC.
And now IGNITE SUSSEX is coming to Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth on March 10th, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Hosted by Bill Sammons of Watermark Productions and Dave Burris of Coastal Sussex Weekly, the event showcases the passions and ideas of local people who give their presentation in IGNITE’s unique format: each presenter gets just 20 slides that automatically advance every 15 seconds.
“An IGNITE event is perfect in our world of 140 character Tweets and Facebook posts. There's a new topic and presenter every 5 minutes. I attended an IGNITE WILMINGTON last year, and hoped we could bring the concept to Southern Delaware," said Sammons. "The events normally attract those in the creative and tech industries, people looking to network and expand their knowledge, but anybody with a thirst for new ideas will enjoy it. It's fun, fast, informative, and it's free."
“This is typically an event that is held in medium-to-large cities,” added Burris. “But I think we have such a funky, eclectic area with so many great stories. So we’re going to take a shot and hope the community embraces the idea.”
A partial list of presenters for March’s event include author and CNBC commentator Cassandra Tororian of Bell Rock Capital, Matthew Peterson of Element Design Group, Andrew Mason of Bayshore Community Church and Audra Marotta of Dogfish Head.
Additional presenters will be added by the organizers until the slots are filled. People interested in presenting can contact Dave Burris at dmburris@gmail.com.
To RSVP, visit ignitesussex.eventbrite.com. Seating is limited, and over a third of the available tickets have already been reserved. For more on IGNITE, visit ignite.oreilly.com.

"The Revolutionary Holocaust: Live Free...Or Die"
You may have been among the fortunate to have watched the Glen Beck Documentary on the holocaust brought about by socialism/Marxism in Europe, Asia and Latin America. But if you missed it, it was very powerful and an important education.
So your teenager is wearing a Che Guevara tee shirt? Watch and see the horrors he presided over and burn that shirt! So we had a member of the current administration who said her favorite philosopher was Mao? Is she uneducated or a communist herself? How short are memories of the millions exterminated by Hitler, Stalin, Guevera and Mao.
This was a one hour documentary on Fox on Friday and may be repeated. But below are each of the segments and well worth the time to watch and pass along to your friends.
FREEDOM WORKS. MARXISTS MURDER!

Interesting Bills In The MD Legislature
•HB52 Recognition of Out of State Permits - Strongly Support
As we've told you previously, Delegate Mike Smigiel (R), District 36, Eastern Shore, has introduced HB52 which would recognize permits from states contiguous to Maryland. This bill would allow those citizens with permits in PA, WV, VA or DE to safely transit the state border without surrendering their rights at the state line. The State of Maryland would benefit from the revenue that these people would bring to our state because the antiquated laws on self-defense currently discourage them from visiting.
These citizens with permits have already passed all of the requirements for a permit in the state of issuance and there is no reason for them to not be entrusted with exercising their rights in Maryland.
We encourage you to first take the time to contact Delegate Smigiel and thank him for his support of the 2nd Amendment.
Then we need you to use the Activist's Tools below to contact your District's Delegates and tell them to support the bill. Follow that up with letters to the members of the House Judiciary Committee. Emails are the way to go at this point, so make use of the excellent resources below.
The hearing for HB52 has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 26th at 1pm in the House Office Building. Information regarding parking and security procedures are also outlined below.
We encourage you to come and support the bill even if you don't feel comfortable speaking. This will be a good opportunity for you to observe the hearing process and maybe build your confidence for future testimony.
You may submit written testimony. This is entered into the official record of the proceedings and can not be dismissed in the way that an email can. You need 35 copies of any written testimony and it needs to be submitted to the committee office by 11am. Delegate Smigiel's Chief of Staff, Andi Moroney, has offered to make the copies and submit the testimony on your behalf if you email it to her.
•HB 119 Department of State Police - Firearm Applications - Authority of Secretary - Oppose as written
Would allow for dealers to submit firearms applications via means other than certified mail for fax. This bill does not specify what the "other" means would be. The language of the bill needs to be much more specific.
Hearing Date February 2, 2010 1:00PM
•HB157 Criminal Law - Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence or a Felony - Oppose
Prohibiting the use of specified firearms in the commission of crimes of violence or felonies; and defining "firearm".
Crimes of violence are already illegal. There is nothing in this bill that will change that. Making something "more illegal" will do nothing to deter violent people from committing acts of violence.
2. Senate Bill Summary, Status and hearing dates
•No hearing date set
•SB 22 Criminal Law - Prohibitions on Wearing, Carrying, or Transporting Firearms - Exceptions - Support
Establishing an exception to the prohibition against wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun or other regulated firearm for a person who is carrying a specified court order requiring the surrender of the handgun or other regulated firearm and who is in the immediate process of surrendering the handgun or other regulated firearm to law enforcement; etc.
This bill is a result of the domestic violence/firearms seizure laws enacted after the 2009 session and are being introduced due to Maryland firearms owners trying to comply with the law, being stopped for traffic infractions and subsequently being charged with violation of the firearms transport laws. The General Assembly crammed these bills down our throats last year so the best we can do with them at this point is to ensure that a firearm owner can't be doubly victimized if they are simply trying to comply with a court order.
•
SB44 Criminal Law - Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence or a Felony - Oppose
This is the companion cross-filed bill to HB157 and we oppose it for the same reasons.
•SB167 Regulated Firearms - Application for Dealer's License - Record-Keeping and Reporting Requirements - Strongly Oppose
Requiring the Secretary of State Police or the Secretary's designee to disapprove an application for a State-regulated firearms dealer's license if the Secretary or designee determines that the applicant intends a specified person to participate or hold a specified interest in the management or operation of the business for which the license is sought; requiring licensed dealers to keep records of specified information; etc.
This bill will effectively make all firearms in the state of Maryland subject to a recordation of sale and thus creating a database of these firearms that is available to the State Police. Currently, non-regulated firearms are not subject to recordation of sale in the manner that handguns or regulated long guns are. This is a huge leap in the intrusion of the state into affairs where they have previously been unable to go. Given the recent anecdotal reports of the Maryland State Police using the recordation of sales of handguns to cross reference ammunition purchases and then paying midnight visits to gunowners' homes, we are leery of granting any further powers to the state.
Further, this broad power grab would grant the state the ability to look at the federally mandated bound book of non-regulated purchases and access records of any purchases of non-regulated firearms that you have made.
Additionally, the onerous requirements of this bill would require a licensed dealer to report a firearm as lost or stolen within 48 hours of the discovery of a theft of a firearm. We defeated this sort of nonsense when it was applied to individual gun owners previously. While it sounds like a "reasonable" measure, who wants to entrust their business and their freedom to the hope that the state will believe a dealer's assessment of when the theft was discovered?
It also allows the State Police to inspect the inventory and records of a dealer at any time.
The sponsors of this bill, Senators Lenett, Frosh, Madaleno and Raskin need to be told in no uncertain terms that the state cannot be entrusted with more power in this area. Further, we need to contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and put this abomination down.
What we need you to do:
•Use the Activist's Tools below to contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and tell them that you strongly oppose SB167.
•Contact your State Senator and tell them that you strongly oppose SB167
•Contact Senators Lenett, Frosh, Madaleno and Raskin's offices and express your outrage at this power grab.
•SB191 - Weapon-Free Higher Education Zones - Oppose
This a repeat of last year's SB551/HB353 that was given an unfavorable report by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee as well as the House Judiciary Committee. It would appear that the anti-gun faithful of the Senate are determined to throw anything they can out there to see if it will stick. The sponsors of this bill are a who's who of anti-gun legislators. We oppose the bill for the same reasons that we did last year. There is nothing in this bill that is not already covered in Maryland law. Furthermore, it leaves unsuspecting citizens vulnerable to exposure of arrest even if they are otherwise in compliance with all of Maryland's onerous laws. Given that university boundaries are not absolute and are often times not clearly defined, people could find themselves on a college campus and not even be aware of it.
