Let's Get Politically Correct Here

The Redskins

I agree with our Native American population---I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins.

One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as warriors, but nay nay....

We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let's ditch The Kansas City Chiefs, The Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of the militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. Offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war between the states that cost this country so many young men's lives.

Besides, the South shall rise again!!

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our football team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres. The fact that there are birds on their shirts does not protect either the Arizona or the St. Louis Cardinals---gone!

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged as their way of life. We are talking the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children---and it is all about the children.

The Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Rams--promote gay men. Wrong message to our children.

The San Diego chargers promote irresponsible spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity--a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers---well, that goes without saying.... Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. A high priority directly behind efficiently managing our country's health care. Amen.

Sexual Harassment!? Kiss on Cheek Gets First-Grader Suspended

According to one school district in Colorado, a little boy's kiss of his female classmate's cheek violated its sexual harassment policy.

Six-year-old Hunter Yelton's mother, Jennifer Saunders, says her son was suspended for several days by the school. He had already been suspended once before for kissing the girl and for playing rough.

She told KRDO-TV that since the suspension she's had to answer questions from her son on what sex is.

Consumers Face Higher Deductibles Under Obamacare Plans

Now that more individuals are able to enroll in plans through the improved Obamacare website, they are discovering that the lower insurance premiums mean more out-of-pocket costs that many may not be able to afford.

The deductibles are averaging $5,081 per year for the minimal coverage Bronze plans on the HealthCare.gov website in 34 of the 36 states on the federal exchange. That's 42 percent higher than the $3,589 deductible individual plans in 2013. For a couple or a family, deductibles may be as high as $12,700, The Wall Street Journal reports.

GOP REP. BACKS KERRY INTO A CORNER OVER OBAMA SHAKING THE ‘BLOODY HAND OF A RUTHLESS DICTATOR LIKE RAUL CASTRO’

While attending the late Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in South Africa on Tuesday, President Barack Obama engaged in a reportedly spontaneous handshake with Cuban dictator Raul Castro. The White House downplayed the exchange, but Republicans were quick to criticize the move.

Secretary of State John Kerry was backed into a corner during a congressional hearing on Tuesday by Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), who blasted the president for shaking the “bloody hand” of someone like Castro.

“Mr. Secretary, sometimes a handshake is just a handshake, but when the leader of the free world shakes the bloody hand of a ruthless dictator like Raul Castro, it becomes a propaganda coup for the tyrant. Castro uses that hand to sign the orders to repress and jail democracy advocates,” the congresswoman lectured.

FOOD STAMP NATION: CHILD HOMELESSNESS SPIKES IN NYC

Andrea Elliott, in her NY Times article "Invisible Child,"articulates the disheartening existence of a family living on the meager support of government welfare. She invites her readers to look through the eyes of Dasani, the family's 11-year-old girl.

The family has a complex relationship with the welfare programs that both keep them afloat and keep their situation hopeless.

Liberals advocate that welfare programs are designed to help the least fortunate and that they demonstrate a society’s compassion. However, sometimes too much compassion by the state can devolve into what recovering drug addicts would call "enabling." Moreover, the "compassionate environment" provided by government often turns out to be wretched.

ATF Reportedly Used Rogue Tactics In A Half-Dozen Cities

Federal ATF agents in cities across the country reportedly used rogue tactics to go after guns on the street -- allegedly exploiting the mentally ill, buying up weapons for way more than they're worth and letting minors smoke pot and drink.

The details were included in an expose by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which reported earlier this year on an embarrassing set of blunders made by the Milwaukee arm of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The operation in Milwaukee apparently was not a one-off, as officials claimed.

Instead, it was part of a pattern of questionable decisions that were employed by six ATF operations, including Milwaukee, nationwide, according to the Journal Sentinel.

An Iced-Over Tree? 'Leave It Alone'

It's a common sight in the area today: Trees and shrubs encased in ice, with branches bending from the weight.

You may think you're doing the plants a favor by breaking the ice off, but an expert says, "leave it alone."

Christine Moore, an arborist and curator of the National Herb Garden at the National Arboretum, says that branches are brittle right now. Suddenly releasing the weight of the ice will cause them to suddenly snap skyward while they're still not flexible.

JOBS REPORT IS FRAUD, GREATEST PONZI SCHEME IN HISTORY CONTINUES

I am a small businessman at “ground zero.” I don’t need Obama, the Fed, economists, or the media to tell me how the economy is doing. I live it. And I’m telling you, we’re all being lied to. The economy is not getting better, it’s getting worse.

Back in late 2007 and early 2008, I publicly predicted (numerous times) that we were entering the deepest recession since the 1929 Great Depression. At the exact moment I wrote about this, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke was testifying in front of Congress that the economy was fine, we were not in recession, and there was little threat of a serious economic decline. It turned out he was dead wrong about everything. A small businessman always knows.

In my national bestselling book, ”The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide“ I predicted all of this: the decline of the economy, the death of jobs, the disaster of Obamacare, and the murder of the middle class. It’s all happening in front of our very eyes.

Did FDR Provoke Pearl Harbor?

On Dec. 8, 1941, Franklin Roosevelt took the rostrum before a joint session of Congress to ask for a declaration of war on Japan.

A day earlier, at dawn, carrier-based Japanese aircraft had launched a sneak attack devastating the U.S. battle fleet at Pearl Harbor.

Said ex-President Herbert Hoover, Republican statesman of the day, “We have only one job to do now, and that is to defeat Japan.”

But to friends, “the Chief” sent another message: “You and I know that this continuous putting pins in rattlesnakes finally got this country bit.”

Today, 70 years after Pearl Harbor, a remarkable secret history, written from 1943 to 1963, has come to light. It is Hoover’s explanation of what happened before, during and after the world war that may prove yet the death knell of the West.

Church Burn Victim Reflects On Surviving Blaze; ‘I Fought My Way By Him’ … ‘I Got Outside And That’s How I Survived It’

OCEAN CITY — About two weeks after the fatal fire at a historic downtown church that claimed the lives of two individuals, including the church pastor, the local woman critically injured in the blaze could soon be returning home in a remarkable story of determination.

The investigation into the Nov. 26 fire at the St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church on Baltimore Ave. at 3rd Street revealed a suspect, later identified as John Raymond Sterner, 56, of Ocean City, purchased gasoline at a nearby Shell station at the foot of the Route 50 bridge, walked several blocks to Baltimore Avenue, doused himself in gasoline, set himself on fire and then entered an area of the church rectory known as the Shepherd’s Crook.

It’s doubtful that anyone could feel sorry for him. See karma in real-time for yourself.

Holiday Greetings For Both Democrats And Republicans!

To My Democratic Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your
choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014 but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is
made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability,
religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

USA: The Next Detroit

One of the most important things to remember about socialism – or coercion of any kind – is it fails eventually because human beings have an innate desire for liberty and a strong need for personal property rights. In fact, the origins of government lie in the need of agricultural communities to protect themselves from violence and theft. So it is particularly ironic that in more recent times, it is government itself that has more frequently played the role of bandit.

When you start taxing people at extreme rates to pay for socialist “benefits,” when you start telling them which schools their children must attend, when you start giving jobs away to people based on race instead of ability… you quash human freedom, which bogs down productivity and if continued for long enough leads to social collapse.

The End Of Poverty In America

President Obama, on Wednesday, made a big speech about “economic inequality” and vowed to spend his last three years in office working to increase the federal minimum wage, as well as a lot of other things.

Just as an aside, every time I hear talk about increasing the minimum wage — there’s a strike on today at some fast food places to raise their wage to $15 an hour as well — I have a conversation something like this.

“I think increasing the minimum wage is a wonderful idea. In fact, let’s raise it to $100 an hour.”

“Oh, you’re being silly.”

“No, imagine. Raise minimum wage to $100 an hour. That way, everyone will be making $200,000 a year. We’ll all berich!

“Racist.”

Okay, I’ll grant that it usually takes two or three more exchanges before someone calls me racist, or a tea-bagger, or even aneconomic royalist if they’re of a classical turn of mind. The one thing I’ve never had anyone do is explain to me why if a $15 an hour minimum wage is a good idea, a $100 an hour minimum wage is a bad idea.

MSNBC: Calling It Obamacare Is Raaaaacist

When it comes to saying something bat-guano insane, in particular pulling out the Race Card, there’s a whole range of nut-balls at MSNBC to choose from. Pretty much the entire liberal staff. In this case, it’s Melissa Harris-Perry on her Sunday show, who decided To Be Brave and say the word.

(Daily Caller) “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years. And like it or not, it’s indelibly printed in the pages of American history. A word that was originally intended as a derogatory term, meant to shame and divide and demean. The word was conceived of by a group of wealthy white men who needed a way to put themselves above and apart from a black man, to render him inferior and unequal and diminish his accomplishments.

“President Obama has been labelled with this word by his opponents, and at first he rose above it, hoping that if he could just make a cause for what he’d achieved, his opponents would fail in making their label stick. But no matter how many successes that he had as president, he realized there were still many people for whom he’d never be anything more than that one disparaging word — a belief he knew was held not just by his political opponents, but also by a significant portion of the American electorate.

“And so he decided if you can’t beat them, you’ve got to join them. So he embraced the word and made it his own, sending his opposition a message they weren’t expecting: ‘If that’s what you want me to be, I’ll be that.’

“Y’all know the word that I’m talking about. Obamacare! That’s right! I said it and I’m not ashamed, and neither is President Obama!”

U.S. Wildlife Services Is Killing Millions Of Animals With No Accountability To The American Public

According to that federal agency's own figures, more than 22 million animals have been killed since 1996, including at least 13 endangered species. These aerial killings, traps, and poisons are being used without public oversight, all in the name of helping corporate agribusiness. The Center for Biological Diversity and other environmental groups have petitioned the Obama Administration to hold Wildlife Services accountable, and develop regulations to ensure the ethical treatment of targeted animals. Camilla Fox, the executive director of Project Coyote, said, "We call on the USDA to clean house and bring Wildlife Services into the modern era of predator conservation and stewardship by adopting rules that justify their actions and allow for public input and the integration of ethics, economics, and science-based ecology."

Waitress Who Claims She Got Anti-Gay Receipt May Not Have Donated Money As Promised

The saga continues for the New Jersey waitress who became Internet-famous when she claimed she’d been stiffed on a tip by diners who voiced disapproval of her sexual orientation on their receipt, an allegation that has subsequently been discredited. Now comes news that the waitress, an ex-Marine, may not have made good on her promise to donate the money she received from supporters to the Wounded Warrior Project.

After her story went public, but before the family accused of leaving that note released evidence demonstrating that they did indeed leave a tip, the waitress promised that she would donate the thousands of dollars she’d received in the wake of the supposed incident to Wounded Warrior.

Since then, not only have the maligned diners denied her allegations, but there have been multiple reports of the waitress having a history of making up rather large lies, like telling co-workers that her home had been severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy, or when she reportedly shaved her head and told friends she had brain cancer.

So a reporter for Bridgewater Patch decided to check with the folks at Wounded Warrior to see if the waitress had indeed made good on her promise to donate the money she’d received.

Maryland Governor O’Malley Breaks New Ground In El Salvador

El Salvador is Central America’s smallest country, but a new deal with the state of Maryland signals the potential for big economic growth.

Governor Martin O’Malley arrived in El Salvador Sunday, becoming the first Maryland governor to do so. There, he signed a memorandum of understanding between the state and El Salvador’s Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), which manages national transportation infrastructure. The deal forms a partnership between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and El Salvador International Airport, involving information sharing on airport operations, security, maintenance and training. In time, officials hope the two airports will begin offering direct service between Maryland and El Salvador, the governor’s office announced.

Maryland’s relationship with El Salvador runs deep. Maryland has the fourth largest Salvadorian population in the country, with over 120,000 residents. The state boasts the highest earning Salvadoran population in the United States. In 2012, Maryland businesses participated in $60 million in trade with El Salvador.

Microsoft Developing A “Smart Bra” To Tell Women It’s Time To Step Away From The Fridge

On the one hand, who hasn’t wished someone could jump in and say “Stop, you don’t want to eat that” somewhere in the middle of the fifth bowl of [insert your own guilty pleasure]? On the other hand, we sincerely hope that if Microsoft ever does introduce its “smart bra” — designed to help women from overeating in times of stress — that there’s a garment for men, too. Because goodness knows, we all need comfort food at one point or another. And also don’t tell me what to eat.

Because everything these days has to be a “smart” something, a team of researchers at Microsoft have been working on a prototype of a smart bra embedded with sensors that track the wearer’s heart activity, so that it can monitor her emotional moods and essentially intervene when she’s stressed out and tempted to overeat, reports CNN.

TOP NY COURT RULES FOX NEWS REPORTER DOES NOT HAVE TO RETURN TO COLORADO TO TESTIFY IN AURORA SHOOTING CASE

New York Court of Appeals rules Fox News reporter Jana Winter does not have to return to Colorado to testify about her sources in covering the Aurora shooting case.

From Fox News

Seriously?

A new National Research Council study, funded in part by NIH, concluded the federal government should care whether Americans are happy or sad. Statistical agencies should track how many times people smile or say they're stressed. The answers could help the government shape policies on benefits, like retirement age and pensions, healthcare or unemployment. Outside researchers say the United States lags behind other countries in trying to quantify happiness. It ranks 17th in a world happiness ranking directed by the firm Helliwell.

Hagel: Full U.S. Retreat From Afghanistan 'A Very Real Possibility'

(CNSNews.com) - Although he didn't call it a "retreat," Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said that all American troops will have to leave Afghanistan in 2014 unless Afghan President Hamid Karzai signs a security agreement with the United States.

"Well, you can use any term you want, 'retreat' or 'not renewing our efforts here post-2014.' You can say it any way you want. But what I'm saying is, unless we have the security of an agreement to protect our forces, then we'll have no choice. We'll -- we will not be able to stay," Hagel told CBS News State Department correspondent Margaret Brennan.

The interview aired Sunday on "Face the Nation."

Hagel said removing all troops from Afghanistan is "a very real possibility, because if we don't have a bilateral security agreement...that means we can't protect our forces that would be here after 2014; no international partners will come."

"Did the U.S. miscalculate in thinking he (Karzai) could be a partner?" Brennan asked Hagel.

"We were surprised," Hagel said.

New Affordable Care US Health Plans Will Exclude Top Hospitals

Americans who are buying insurance plans over online exchanges, under what is known as Obamacare, will have limited access to some of the nation’s leading hospitals, including two world-renowned cancer centres.

Amid a drive by insurers to limit costs, the majority of insurance plans being sold on the new healthcare exchanges in New York, Texas, and California, for example, will not offer patients’ access to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, two top cancer centres, or Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, one of the top research and teaching hospitals in the country.

70% Of Calfornia's Doctors Expected To Boycott Obamacare

No other business would do that,” exclaims the president of the California Medical Association, as The Washington Examiner reports, independent insurance brokers estimate 70% of California's 104,000 licensed doctors are boycotting the exchange. “The Covered California board says we have plenty of doctors, and they allege they have 85 percent of doctors participating, but they’ve shown no numbers," and if a large number of doctors either balk at participating in the exchange or retire, the state’s medical system could be overwhelmed. “Enrollment doesn’t mean access, because there aren’t enough doctors to take the low rates of Medicaid,” warns one health director. “There aren’t enough primary care physicians, period.”

Francis McGouldrick Jr. of New Haven through the DNA of a great nephew and niece. McGouldrick disappeared on the night of Dec. 13, 1968. His attack bomber collided with another plane over Laos. His remains weren't found until 2012, and only identified now. He'll be returned to family and buried with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery. More than 1,600 American service members are still unaccounted for from the Vietnam War.

WICOMICO PUBLIC LIBRARY JOINS F.I.R.S.T. ROBOTICS COMPETITION

Wicomico Public Library will join the 5th annual Eastern Shore Qualifier for Maryland’s “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST) LEGO League Tournament at Salisbury Middle School December 14th at 9:30 am.

For the first time, two teams from Wicomico Public Library will be participating in the event. The Mechanical Mayhem and Sneaksbots teams have been working at the Downtown Library and Centre Branch since September to prepare for the competition. Library based teams provide a chance to participate to children and teens without access to a school based team. This project is funded through the Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children, the Local Management Board for Wicomico County, with funding from the Governor’s Office for Children.

The Maryland branch of FIRST was founded by Dean Kamen who used robotics and competitions to help students develop the skills needed to flourish in today’s technology-driven society. Judging will begin at 10:45 am. Both teams will be judged on three criteria: robot performance on the competition table, research project and core values. The awards ceremony will begin at 4 pm in the gymnasium.

“We strongly believe robotic competitions provide positive learning experiences for all students and encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields,” said David Harner, coordinator of Secondary and STEM Initiatives for Wicomico County Public Schools.

Wicomico Public Library has locations in Downtown Salisbury, the Centre at Salisbury, in Pittsville, a computer access station in Bivalve, and the Library Bookmobile. Not only does Wicomico Public Library offer numerous resources such as free Internet access, a variety of classes and events, and an online virtual library with eBooks, but it engages with the community by supporting learning, building community, and enriching lives.
