Man Charged With Threatening Obama
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site Thursday that Daniel James Murray allegedly made the remark to a teller at a bank in St. George on May 27 as he withdrew $13,000 from an account.
Murray's whereabouts are unknown. A court affidavit says Murray is from New York and has recently been in California, Utah, Georgia, Oklahoma and possibly Texas.
The U.S. Secret Service says Murray has at least eight registered firearms, the Tribune reported.

TROOPERS SEARCHING FOR EASTERN SHORE MURDER SUSPECT
(Crumpton, MD) – Maryland State Police are searching for a suspect believed to have carjacked a Maryland husband and wife along the New Jersey Turnpike early this morning before forcing them to drive to a remote area in Kent County where he murdered the wife.
The identity of the deceased victim and her husband cannot be released at this time. Family members have not yet been notified. The deceased victim is believed to be in her twenties.
Shortly before 6:00 a.m. today, Maryland State Police and Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call from a home in the 10000-block of Crumpton Road (Rt. 290), Crumpton, Md. Troopers and deputies who responded met with the male victim who said a male suspect who had carjacked them overnight and forced them to drive to this location had assaulted his wife about one-quarter mile from the house.
Troopers and deputies searched the area along Rt. 290 south of the home and found the body of the female victim lying in a field on the southbound side of Rt. 290. EMS units were called and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The husband was transported to Kent/Queen Anne’s Hospital by ambulance. He was treated and released for what appears to be a knife wound on his arm and other smaller cuts. He may also have an internal injury.
Kent County Sheriff John Price requested that the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit respond and conduct the investigation. The Homicide Unit is being assisted by investigators from the Kent Bureau of Investigation.
The husband told investigators that he and his wife were traveling from Brooklyn, New York last night to their home in Lexington Park, Md. They left New York sometime after 9:00 p.m., driving their 2007 blue Honda Accord, with VA registration, 876718.
The husband said they stopped along the New Jersey Turnpike to get gas. While there, he said they were carjacked by a man with a gun who forced them into the car and made the husband drive. The race of the suspect is unknown. The husband said the man wore a mask, gloves and a black hooded sweatshirt.
The husband said he was directed to drive to the location along Rt. 290, which is about four miles north of Rt. 301 in the rural area of Crumpton. The husband said that at about 1:30 a.m. today, the suspect forced them out of the car. He said the suspect assaulted him and bound his hands and feet together with duct tape.
The husband said after he was bound, his wife tried to flee, but was run down by the suspect and assaulted. The husband, lying in a field along the road, worked throughout the early morning hours to free himself from the duct tape.
When he was able to free himself, the husband said he tried to flag down passing motorists, but no one stopped. He said he walked to the house about one-quarter mile away and asked the resident to call 911 shortly before 6:00 a.m. today.
Maryland State Police, Kent County deputies, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and allied law enforcement are continuing to search the area. Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division processed the scene for evidence.
The victim’s body has been transported to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. A cause and manner of death has not been identified at this time. The victim had sustained what appeared to be knife wounds to the upper body.
A lookout for the victims’ vehicle was immediately broadcast and sent to law enforcement nationally. State Police are working with police from NYPD, New Jersey State Police, and state and county police in Southern Maryland on this continuing investigation.
Anyone who may have been traveling along Rt. 290 between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. today is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Centreville Barracks at 410-758-1101. Callers may remain confidential.
UPDATE:
KENT COUNTY MURDER VICTIM AND HUSBAND IDENTIFIED
(Crumpton, MD) – After appropriate family notifications were made, Maryland State Police are now able to release the identity of the woman who was found murdered along a road in Kent County after she and her husband were carjacked in New Jersey overnight.
The deceased victim is identified as Serika Dunkley Holness, 26, of the 48000-block of Spinnaker Circle, Lexington Park, Md. The victim sustained what appear to be stab wounds to her upper body. An autopsy will be conducted in Baltimore.
The husband of the deceased is identified as Ryan D. Holness, 28, of the same address. He sustained what appears to be a stab wound to the arm and may have a fractured rib according to hospital officials at the Kent/Queen Anne’s Hospital where he was treated and released.
The victims’ car, a blue 2007 Honda Accord four-door, has not been located. It is bearing either Virginia registration number 876-718, or KDZ-1408. The vehicle was leased by Ryan Holness.
Police believe the rest area along the New Jersey Turnpike where the couple was carjacked is the Molly Pitcher Service Area, in Cranberry New Jersey. The service area is on the southbound side of the turnpike, between exits 8A and 8.
No further information regarding a description of the suspect has been developed. Ryan Holness said when he got back into his car at the rest area, the suspect was in the back seat of his car with a gun. He described the suspect as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a ski mask, and gloves.
State Police investigators have learned Ryan Holness is currently a member of the United States Navy, assigned to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County. He and his wife have a home in Lexington Park, Md., and travel to New York to visit relatives, as they were doing before they left for Maryland last evening. The couple has been married since 2003. The couple has children, but they were not involved in this incident and are safe with other relatives.
Robbery At Gas Station On Old Ocean City Road
What A Peaceful Day
This morning I got up early and turned on the computer and things were working well for me for a little while, then all hell broke loose as I could not get reconnected for several hours.
The funny part was, after spending a good hour and a half on the phone with Verizon, I thought, you know what, I'm going to do something I rarely ever do. I turned on the television thinking, I've got the remote, the Grandson and Wife are gone, no Sponge Bob, it's Joe Time!
Sounds good, right? Well, it was raining so hard, I forgot we have satellite and there was NO TV! I then thought, (since Verizon told me to check every hour or so to see if things were working again) maybe I'll take a nap. Man, I tell you what, you people must know every time I'm going to lay my head down because the cell phone and house phone started ringing off the hook!
There was the beginning of this peace that started when I couldn't get on line and it just went down hill from there, or should I say up hill? Oh well, I tried anyway.

WCBOE Public Information Officer to Receive 33% Pay Raise
While hardly a bargain for Wicomico taxpayers, we know that this is a steal for Supt. John Fredericksen. As most of you probably know, the WCBOE's "Public Information Liaison" happens to be the wife of Erick Sahler, managing editor of the Daily Times. One of the perks of such an "arrangement" is that no unflattering coverage of the BOE appears within the pages of our local rag.
While we regularly read about the problems of the Somerset BOE, the fights between the Worcester County Commissioners and their BOE, and teacher pay issues in several Sussex County school districts (Delaware has independent school districts), coverage of the Wicomico County schools is primarily limited to puff pieces of children receiving awards. Note that NO coverage was given to the WCBOE's recent decision to increase retiree healthcare benefits. Note that explanation of the WCBOE's "dollar swap" as budget cut was afforded the same type of explanation as the Daily Times usually reserves for Barrie Tilghman's transgressions; in other words, shine sunshine up people's backsides. As far as the WCBOE is concerned, increasing Mrs. Sahler's salary from around $40,000 to over $54,000 is the sale of the century. Most school districts couldn't buy this kind of coverage (or lack thereof); the Daily Times has sold it pretty cheap.

Get Lost At Seacrets For Chuck Campbell
First, I would like to thank all of you for all your support over the past few months which, has really helped us toward our goal of acquiring New Lungs for Chuck.
That being said, I am asking for your help again. On June 14th Hope Entertainment is holding a fund raising event at Seacrets to benefit New Lungs for Chuck. Eric and Juley have worked hard and created a sure success, but together we can help make it even better. We need a few things from Delmarva's Marketing Community. Obviously, the more people that know about this event, the more money we can raise. How ever you can get the word out, whether its running PSA's, live liners, or even printing out the flyer and giving it to your staffs. We are also in need of auction items. For example, concerts tickets, show tickets, trips, gift certificates, anything of value that may be in your prize vaults. Every penny raised will bring us that much closer to acquiring New Lungs for Chuck.
Again I want to thank you for your support and remind you that this effort is a marathon and not a sprint. With all of us pulling together I know that we can make this event a huge success and get us that much closer to our collective goal.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,

400 Comments In Just One Day
Like I said the other day, we just keep growing and we're very pleased to have all these new visitors. It's not my intent to tease anyone here but we're working on two really big stories that we'll be producing on Monday and Tuesday. One of them we'll be working in conjunction with WMDT in which we'll promote their findings and when they'll air the story, more than likely it will be the Tuesday article. Stacy Sakai has done some really great investigative work on this story and deserves a ton of credit. You'll understand it more when the story comes out.
The other story we'll be producing will be a dual story proving more corruption here on the Eastern Shore. We have the story, I'm just waiting to get my hands on the balance of the evidence. I think everyone knows that when I see really good investigative stories on the Daily Times, I give them props for doing so. Mind you, it's very rare any more these days but hopefully they'll recognize and respect the work we put into these stories coming out next week, we'll see. I won't hold my breath.
Anyhow, we appreciate your visiting Salisbury News and in the very least you'll have a lot to look forward to next week. Tomorrow is our Historical Comments By George Chevallier at 9:00 AM. It's a really good one too, so don't miss it.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Is David See Delusional?
CEO of a METROPOLITAN fire department? When did Salisbury become a metropolitan area? This isn't Norfolk or Baltimore. Apparently he hasn't heard the concerns or issues involving the Salisbury Fire Department other than "new toyz for big boyz". His retention rate is nothing to write home about and the fact that he has stated repeatedly his disdain for volunteer fire fighters, he has got to be delusional. Is he the only one petitioning for this seat? Are there no other, more qualified people to represent the Eastern division?
My name is David B. See and I am seeking your support in my bid for re-election to the position of Director-at-Large on the IAFC Volunteer and Combination Officers Section Board of Directors. I have served in this position since August 2006 making significant contributions to the continued success of VCOS, promoting the section and upholding its reputation as the largest and one of the most active and progressive sections of the IAFC.
I have met many of you in my travels across the country, through calls or e-mails, and have heard your concerns and issues that you deal with in your respective departments. They are the same nationwide: personnel safety, funding, personnel qualifications, recruitment and retention, and even the “two-hatter” issue. As the CEO of a metropolitan municipal combination department in Salisbury, Maryland I dealt with each of them and more on a daily basis. I continue to deal with them as I serve in my hometown’s combination department (Delmar, Delaware).
The VCOS mission is to assist volunteer and combination fire service leaders in dealing with the multi-faceted issues that face them now and well into the future. The section’s core mission and subsequent projects impact everyone in the nation’s fire service. During my tenure as a Director I have worked with my colleagues, and many of you, on numerous projects that have dealt with those issues and those projects continue to pave a positive path for the future of the fire service nationwide. Each of us is proud of those accomplishments and I am hopeful that I will be selected to serve on the Board for another term. Thank you in advance for your continued support as each of you participates in this election process. Please cast your vote for me and always remember - Everyone Goes Home!

Salisbury: How Much Will the City’s Legal Bill Be This Time?
You don’t need a law degree to learn about this opinion, which was issued by Maryland’s attorney general in 1993. It’s available on the Internet* and may be retrieved by entering several key terms in “Google.” That may not be how Terry Cohen found it, but fortunately she did. Just how she did so is not important.
What the public needs to know is why the City Attorney didn’t find this opinion and bring it to the attention of the Ethics Commission and tell us about it even earlier, when Shanie Shields raised the matter of ethics before the Council adopted the budget. Because of his failure to provide timely legal guidance, Barrie Comegys and cohorts like Lynn Cathcart, have had a field day trashing Ms. Campbell and Ms. Cohen and using their scurrilous sniper, Jonathan Taylor, to vilify them.
Thank goodness Ms. Cohen has once again found the appropriate legal authority that escapes Mr. Wilber’s grasp – just like in that Salisbury Mall zoning fiasco. Recall how he told the Council that he had done legal research and had found several cases that supported the rezoning ordinance, which was later struck down in the Circuit Court.
And here’s the really ludicrous part: once again Mr. Wilber will actually and greatly benefit by failing to find the attorney-general’s opinion and putting a stop to things at the get-go. His legal bill will likely include both attending the Ethics Commission hearing and meeting in closed session with them as well as doing lots of legal “research.” It’s the Salisbury Mall mess all over again.

Breaking Princess Anne News
Brenda Benton has become the interim Town Manager for the Town of Princess Anne.
Brenda has been with Princess Anne as the Finance Director for 17 years now and has filled this position in the past, so it's nothing new for this veteran.
There will be a slight pay increase for Brenda and she'll hold this position until January of 2010. Once again, news you'll only get from Salisbury News first.
Get Used To It
While this is one of the most disturbing sights anyone can see, besides accident scenes, eviction is becoming an every day thing all across America.
I took this picture the other day while driving through Salisbury and it begs to question, how many of you know of someone who has lost their home to this economy.
I have a friend who lives in the Annapolis area who just rented out their basement to friends of theirs who just lost their home and they're paying him $1,800.00 a month just to live in their basement. Mind you, it's a nice basement but $1,800.00 a MONTH? I know of another woman who lost her home and is now renting a trailer.
I think it's important you share with everyone stories of people you know, (no names) and explain just how tough these times really are. Let's get to know what's going on in our little part of America.
Have you lost your job or know of someone who has? Have you lost your home, or know someone who has. Are you behind in rent or your mortgage, or know someone who has? How about car payments? Again, no names, just stories.
Door To Door Visitor
My wife just called me to tell me of her random event which just happened. I leave for work around 7:30 and she will do the same around 9:00. At about 8am she heard a knock at the door. Once she answered it, there was a young college aged guy explaining that he was a recent grad from Arizona State University who was completing a study of new moms. Now it’s not very difficult to know that she is a mom considering her car in the driveway with all the tell tales in it. (ie: sun shades on the rear side windows, car seat in the back seat….) What struck me as odd is first of all this guy is going around in the rain. Second of all when she told him she was not comfortable letting him in he offered to speak with her on the back deck, not the front porch they were standing on. Lucky for me my dogs felt something strange and when they peaked their heads around the corner of the door and started barking, this guy had the smarts to excuse himself.
The event just seemed very strange and odd. Just wanted to put that out to you incase others have had the same thing happen or as if to serve as a warning to others.
Concerned Citizen.
Former Councilwoman Lynn Cathcart Knew She Was Defeated
This was the look on Lynn Cathcarts face the other day in the Ethics Board Meeting after Councilwoman Terry Cohen blew the Board away with her testimony. There wasn't a lawyer on the entire East Coast that could have represented Terry any better than she did on her own.
Lynn Cathcart, aka, "Mrs. Grinch" was devastated to the point she didn't even wait for Terry to finish when she got up and walked out of the meeting. Lynn is clearly the inside representative for Barrie Tilghman, Chief Webster, Gary Comegys, Mike Dunn and Jonathan Taylor. She was the ONLY person in the room representing the "other side."
While we await the Press Release from the City, we ALL know the charges were bogus and there's absolutely no way they'll find in favor of Jon Taylor, or shall we say Lynn Cathcart, Barrie Tilghman, Chief Webster, Gary Comegys and Mike Dunn?
After the Chief's stunt he pulled on me two days ago demanding I take a Post down as it could jeopardize the life of a Police Officer, there's no question in my mind that this group will do anything to help this man keep his job.
It's always cool to capture that "Kodak Moment."
Bubba Walks On Water?
So when Bubba's 21st birthday came around, he and his pal Jim Bob took a boat out to the middle of the lake, Bubba stepped out of the boat .... And nearly drowned! Jim Bob just barely managed to pull him to safety.
Furious and confused, Bubba went to see his grandmother. 'Grandma,' he asked, 'it's my 21st birthday, so why can't I walk 'cross the lake like my pappy, his father, and his father before him?'
Granny looked deeply into Bubba's troubled eyes and said, 'Because your father, your grandfather and your great grandfather were born in January, when the lake is frozen, and you were born in July, you dumbass.'
