America's "Prosperity" Is Now Dependent On Predatory Globalization

Nowadays, trade and "prosperity" are dependent on currencies that are created out of thin air via borrowing or printing.

So here's the story explaining why "free" trade and globalization create so much wonderful prosperity for all of us: I find a nation with cheap labor and no environmental laws anxious to give me cheap land and tax credits, so I move my factory from my high-cost, highly regulated nation to the low-cost nation, and keep all the profits I reap from the move for myself. Yea for free trade, I'm now far wealthier than I was before.

That's the story. Feel better about "free" trade and globalization now? Oh wait a minute, there's something missing--the part about "prosperity for all of us." Here's labor's share of U.S. GDP, which includes imports and exports, i.e. trade:

Alabama Coal Mine Reopens, Names Excavator After President

An Alabama coal mine is reopening thanks to President Trump’s efforts to save the coal industry from the job-killing regulatory burdens implemented by the Obama administration.

The Alabama coal mine, which closed in 2014, was highlighted by The Atlantic last month wherein former coal miner Randy Johnson said he would reopen his business and rehire his 22 coal miners. Johnson even named his new excavator “Trump” in tribute to the president he says helped save his business:

Randy Johnson looked on as his new 220-ton excavator carved up the ground, clearing the field of rocks to help unearth the coal underneath. Four weeks earlier, the central Alabama mine’s 22 employees had gathered to christen the $2.7 million purchase, painting “TRUMP” in white block letters along the excavator’s side. The day I visited, a recent Friday in July, those letters gleamed under the punishing southern sun, the machine’s every move—every swivel at the base, every curl of the claw—an implicit tribute to the 45th president. [Emphasis added]

It’s tradition in the mining industry to name the “big machines.” Apart from the land itself, they represent the bulk of capital for a new site. For Johnson, though, this excavator was emblematic of much more. The 71-year-old Alabama native and mining veteran had bowed out of the industry in 2014, when he says the Obama administration’s “war on coal” pummeled the market. But with Donald Trump’s election came a wave of “optimism,” he told me: optimism that the crush of regulations would ebb, that the “dirty” caricatures of the industry, aggravated by Barack Obama, would start to soften. So at the turn of the year, when he learned of an idle reserve in Bessemer, Johnson reopened his company, called one of his old foremen, and made the largest investment of his career. Man charged in Capital Gazette shooting asks for time to consider insanity plea

The man charged in the death of five people in the Capital Gazette newsroom may be considering a plea of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity, according to court records requesting more time to consider that defense.

Jarrod Ramos’ attorney has filed a motion Monday claiming there is “good cause” to extend the plea deadline. Maryland law requires a defendant enter a plea of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity when the defendant enters his or her official plea. A judge can allow an extension if there is good cause.

Public Defender William Davis wrote there are more than 800 documents to review in seeking the extension. Some materials, like crime scene photographs, he argued, have not been given to the defense yet.

Davis wrote he and Ramos need more time to review the records while considering the plea. Davis emphasized the reference to the plea in his request.

Share program in favor of dockless Bird, Lime options

Baltimore has shut down its problem-plagued bike share program after less than two years and entered into a pilot program with two firms that offer dockless scooters and bikes, Mayor Catherine Pugh said Wednesday. The city has entered into agreements to allow Bird, which launched a pilot fleet of more than 60 dockless, electric scooters in the city this summer, and Lime, which offers dockless bicycles and scooters, to each place 1,000 scooters or bikes on the streets. The bikes and scooters will come at no cost to the city, unlike the now-canceled program, which cost the city a total of $3.2 million, according to the Department of Transportation.

Four Girls Fight Off Would-Be Kidnapper at Summer Festival

The girls protected themselves the only way they knew how — kicking and scratching their attempted kidnapper and throwing a cup of iced coffee in his face.

That was the scene in Millington, Mich., a small village with 1,000 residents situated 35 miles north of Flint, on the evening of Aug. 10. A 22-year-old man, identified as Bruce Hipkins, tried to abduct Allison Eickhoff, 11, her father and the police said.

At about 10 p.m., Allison, her 13-year-old sister Lauren, and two of their friends were outside the Speedway convenience store on State Road, having just come from the village’s annual Old-Fashioned Summer Festival, where the community had gathered for street parties, tractor shows, a frog-jumping contest and a lively parade.

The man followed the girls out of the Speedway and across the street into a parking lot. According to the Millington Police, he grabbed Allison by the face and mouth and told her she was coming with him.

Why the Explosive Report on Catholic Church Abuse Is Unlikely to Yield Criminal Charges

The searing grand jury report issued Tuesday in Pennsylvania that accuses bishops and other Roman Catholic Church leaders in that state of covering up child sexual abuse by more than 300 priests has prompted growing calls for justice, while leaving Americans wondering about the broader impact of the revelations on the church and other institutions.

But a web of legal barriers stands in the way of prosecuting most of the cases, and efforts to ease those barriers have repeatedly run into political opposition and fierce lobbying by the church and other groups. Pennsylvania lags behind many other states in coming to grips with the problem, despite a series of grand jury investigations stretching back 15 years.

New Zealand Bans Home Sales To Most Foreigners: 'It's Not A Right, It's A Privilege'

Determined to combat New Zealand's lofty housing prices, the country's lawmakers have trained their aim at a distant target: the buyers beyond their borders. By a close vote Wednesday, the Parliament passed a law banning most nonresident foreigners from purchasing existing homes or residential land.

The goal is simple, according to the bill's backers: to correct a domestic housing market that has seen prices skyrocket and homeownership plunge in the past decade. By thinning the pool of potential buyers, lawmakers hope to ease the property shortage that has been blamed for the country's bind.

"If you've got the right to live in New Zealand permanently, you've got the right to buy here. But otherwise it's not a right, it's a privilege," David Parker, New Zealand's minister for economic development and trade, said in a speech from the Parliament floor Wednesday. "We believe it's the birthright of New Zealanders to buy homes in New Zealand in a market that is shaped by New Zealand buyers, not by international price pressures."

Bills And Bulletproof Backpacks: Safety Measures For A New School Year

As students prepare to go back to school, more and more parents are thinking about school safety. A recent poll found 34 percent of parents fear for their child's physical safety at school. That's almost triple the number of parents from 2013.

And yet schools are among the safest places for kids. According to one study, shooting incidents involving students have actually gone down since the 1990s.

But that hasn't stopped parents, schools and lawmakers from acting on their concerns. They're beefing up security and looking at ways to identify potential threats. Some parents are even investing in bulletproof school supplies.

Hundreds Of Newspapers Denounce Trump's Attacks On Media In Coordinated Editorials

More than 300 news publications across the country are joining together to defend the role of a free press and denounce President Trump's ongoing attacks on the news media in coordinated editorials publishing Thursday, according to a tally by The Boston Globe.

The project was spearheaded by staff members of the editorial page at the Globe, who write: "This relentless assault on the free press has dangerous consequences. We asked editorial boards from around the country – liberal and conservative, large and small – to join us today to address this fundamental threat in their own words."

Marjorie Pritchard, the Globe's deputy managing editor of the editorial page who spearheaded the effort, told NPR's Morning Edition, "this editorial project is not against the Trump administration's agenda. It's a response to put us into the public discourse and defend the First Amendment."

She said the reason to publish the editorials now was "because the press needs to have a voice on this. ... We've done individual editorials, but I think it's, there is some strength in numbers of just defending a constitutionally enshrined pillar of democracy."

July Retail Sales Rock, Productivity Soars

Buoyant consumer sentiment boosted retail sales more than expected in July, while bigger than expected productivity gains point toward lower inflation and possible wage gains.

Retail sales, which are the total receipts at stores that sell merchandise and related services to final consumers, rose 0.5 percent in July, according to data released by the Commerce Department Wednesday. Economists had expected sales to rise by just 0.1 percent. The sales numbers were so strong that they exceeded the top range of expectations of economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

Outside of auto and gas sales, retail sales grew an even stronger 0.6 percent.

Productivity, which has had very small gains or even retreated in recent years, rose 2.9 percent in the most recent quarter compared with the prior quarter. That topped expectations for gains of 2.5 percent and was far above the paltry 0.4 percent increase in the first quarter. Productivity measures the growth of labor efficiency in producing goods and services. Rising productivity can hold back inflationary pressures even when the labor market is tight. It can also lead to higher wages in the longer run.

DOJ Attorney Faces Deposition In FISA Abuse Probe

DOJ attorney George Toscas will be deposed Thursday as part of a congressional investigation into possible FISA abuse.
Staffers with the House Judiciary and House Oversight Committees will quiz Toscas about DOJ official Bruce Ohr.
Ohr will be interviewed on Aug. 28.

House Republicans will resume an investigation of the FBI and DOJ’s handling of the Russia investigation on Thursday with a deposition of George Z. Toscas, a national security attorney at the Department of Justice.

Toscas, who handles counterterrorism and counterespionage cases, will appear for a deposition at 10 a.m. before staffers with the House Judiciary and House Government & Oversight Committees, a source familiar with the matter tells The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Toscas was one of 17 current and former FBI and Justice Department officials included on a list submitted to the two House committees by California Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

Nunes suggested interviewing Toscas and the other officials regarding an investigation into the FBI and Justice Department’s possible abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

FLASHBACK: Omarosa Was Fired or Tossed From Govt. Positions Under Clinton… FOUR Different Times

Omarosa goes 5 for 5!

Maybe this is what President Trump really meant by this tweet last week.

5 for 5!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 8, 2018
Here’s something that is not making many headlines in the liberal mainstream media.
Omarosa was fired four times by the Clinton White House.
They say she was very “disruptive.”

Raise your hand if you knew that Omarosa was fired from the Clinton White House not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times before. Have barely seen anything on this: “She was asked to leave as quickly as possible, she was so disruptive.” https://t.co/UC8Ac2kPcS

— Joe Concha (@JoeConchaTV) August 15, 2018

The Cut reported:

…This is not, in fact, the first time Omarosa has left a White House job under less-than-glorious circumstances. In her 20s, she was a political appointee in the Clinton administration where, according to People, she held four jobs in two years.

Nolte — Media’s Omarosa Hypocrisy: ‘Dog’ Unthinkable, ‘C*nt’ Okay

Just weeks after the establishment media refused to condemn the use of the word “c*nt” to describe a female White House staffer, these same establishment media are feigning outrage over President Trump’s use of the word “dog” to describe fired White House staffer Omarosa Manigault.

Which only proves once again just what a sorry bunch of hypocrites and liars the media are.

As we have all seen over the last few years, ever since Trump arrived on the political scene, the media have worked overtime to destroy all kinds of norms regarding civil discourse in America. A new low was hit Monday when the far-left CNN encouraged violence against Trump supporters as a “moral” act.

But the media’s denigration of standards when it comes to treatment of women — okay, Republican women — has been just as shocking.

$125,000: The Pension-Debt Each Chicagoan Is Really On The Hook For

Chicagoans have no idea how much pension debt Illinois politicians have saddled them with. Officially, Windy City residents are on the hook for $70 billion in total pension shortfalls from the city and its sister governments plus a share of Cook County and state pensions.

But listen to Moody’s Investors Service, the rating agency that’s been most critical of Chicago’s finances, and you’ll get a different picture. Moody’s pegs the total pension debt burden for Chicagoans at $130 billion, nearly double the official numbers. (Yes, by chance the number is eerily similar to the official shortfall of $129 billion facing the five state-run pension funds. But don’t confuse the two.)

That’s scary news for Windy City residents. Barring real reforms, concessions from the unions or bankruptcy, Chicagoans can expect to be hit with whatever series of tax hikes politicians will try to enact to reduce that debt.

That $130 billion is the total Moody’s calculates when adding up the direct pension debt owed by the city government, Chicago Public Schools, the park district and Chicago’s share of various Cook County governments and the five state pension funds. Moody’s takes a more realistic approach to investment assumptions than the city and county governments take.

Mom Who Spent $25K on Black Panther-Themed Prom Party Accused of Disability Fraud

The Philadelphia mom who gave her son a $25,000 African-themed prom party replete with camels has been accused of illegally taking tens of thousands in disability payments.

Saudia Shuler, 44, made news last week for throwing the lavish prom party, which included camels, a black panther, and costumed characters from the Marvel superhero film Black Panther.

But after her notoriety, city officials began looking into Shuler’s finances and are now charging her with defrauding the city of tens of thousands in disability payments, according to ABC 6.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney for Philadelphia charged Shuler with wire fraud, theft of government funds, and Social Security fraud.

Prosecutors said Shuler signed up for disability benefits saying she is unable to work, even though she is not disabled. They also noted that she has been working in a fast food business during the time she said she could not work and that she took at least $36,000 in disability payments.

ISIS Militant Quietly Released after FBI Intervention Surfaces in Minimum Security Jail

An ISIS operative jailed in Chicago and mysteriously released after FBI intervention, has surfaced in a minimum security prison about 165 miles south of the Windy City. His name is Emad Karakrah, the ringleader of a sophisticated narco-terror operation, and in 2014 he was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase through Chicago streets with an ISIS flag waving from his car. When police finally captured Karakrah, he told officers his car was rigged with explosives that would detonate if searched. Bomb disposal units secured the vehicle without incident, but Karakrah’s arrest helped expose a huge narco-terrorist network with roots and financing in El Paso, Texas. Karakrah also lived in New Mexico, the border state where authorities just raided an extremist Muslim compound that trained kids to commit school shootings.

Judicial Watch uncovered Karakrah’s terrorism record and has reported extensively on his extremist activities, including a 2009 plot to bomb talk-show host Oprah Winfrey’s Chicago studios and the iconic Sears Tower. Judicial Watch also produced an investigative documentary about the narco-terrorist cell that Karakrah and other jihadists—including two of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists (Jaber A. Elbaneh and Adnan Gulshair el Shukrijumah)—operated from El Paso. Karakrah was a logistics and transportation operative for militant Islamists in the United States, according to high-level law enforcement sources. He moved people, weapons, explosives, drugs, money, and other materiel to terrorist cells operating in Chicago, Brooklyn, New York and Saddle Brook, New Jersey, among other locations across the U.S. More than a decade ago Karakrah smuggled drugs and weapons for the renowned Juárez drug cartel in Mexico.

Governor Larry Hogan Announces Funding for Final Expansion of Ocean City Convention Center

$20 Million State Contribution; Expected Economic Impact of $67 Million, Up to 670 New Jobs

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
Governor Larry Hogan today announced he has authorized the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) in conjunction with the Town of Ocean City to move forward with funding the final phase of the addition and renovation of the Roland E. Powell Ocean City Convention Center. The $34 million project cost will be funded via $20 million from the state through the Maryland Stadium Authority, in addition to Ocean City’s contribution of $14 million.

“This facility has long been an important economic driver for Ocean City, bringing in thousands of visitors for conferences and events like MACo and allowing local businesses to stay open and continue to hire year-round,” said Governor Hogan. “I want to thank Mayor Meehan, as well as the team at the Maryland Stadium Authority, for working with us to make today’s announcement possible. With their partnership, we are able to speed up this important project, which is expected to have an economic impact of as much as $67 million and continue creating jobs right here on the Eastern Shore.”

Governor Hogan made the announcement at the convention center at the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) 2018 Summer Conference in Ocean City, Md., where he was joined by Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan, Maryland Stadium Authority Chairman Tom Kelso and Executive Director Michael Frenz, and Ocean City Convention Center Executive Director Larry Noccolino.

Legislation will be submitted for the 2019 session of the Maryland General Assembly to allow MSA the needed capacity to finance the project. The convention center brings visitors to Ocean City, especially during the shoulder seasons, allowing local businesses to stay open year-round and provide full-time employment for Marylanders. Currently, the convention center has existing clients whose events have outgrown the facility and may seek out-of-state alternatives.

“The expansion of the Convention Center is important to Ocean City and the State of Maryland. Not only does the Convention Center generate revenue locally but has a positive economic impact on the State,” said Mayor Meehan. “We are thankful for the support of Governor Hogan and the partnership with the Maryland Stadium Authority.”

Eggers: Nearly 250 Counties Have More Registered Voters than Eligible Voters

Nearly 250 counties across the United States have more registered voters on the voting rolls than the number of eligible, citizen voters, Government Accountability Insititute (GAI) research director Eric Eggers reveals in his new book.

Eggers told Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow on SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily, as his new book, Fraud: How the Left Plans to Steal the Next Election, details, that voter fraud in the U.S. is a real issue that has yet to be dealt with.

“You have 248 counties in this country that have more registered voters than you have citizens of legal voting age … nearly three million people are registered to vote in more than one state,” Egger said. “Even Barack Obama’s … administration said that yeah, maybe 16 million election registrations are completely inaccurate. And in some states, this is as many as one-in-seven [registrations].”

Eggers said Democrats and left-wing organizations funded by globalist billionaire George Soros fight “at every turn to keep any effort to increase [voter] security,” which he said, “includes leveling the charges of racism anytime a state wants to do anything” about combatting voter fraud.

Was Hillary The Real Colluder?

You know the 'Russiagate' narrative is wearing thin on America's thinking public when mainstream media are prepared to run such opinion pieces as Investors' Business Daily just did...
Russian Collusion: It Was Hillary Clinton All Along

Russia Investigation: It's beginning to look as if claims of monstrous collusion between Russian officials and U.S. political operatives were true. But it wasn't Donald Trump who was guilty of Russian collusion. It was Hillary Clinton and U.S. intelligence officials who worked with Russians and others to entrap Trump.

That's the stunning conclusion of a RealClear Investigations report by Lee Smith, who looked in-depth at the controversial June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between officials of then-candidate Donald Trump's campaign staff and a Russian lawyer known to have ties with high-level officials in Vladimir Putin's government.

The media have spun a tale of Trump selling his soul to the Russians for campaign dirt to use against Hillary, beginning with the now-infamous Trump Tower meeting.

But "a growing body of evidence ... indicates that the meeting may have been a setup — part of a broad effort to tarnish the Trump campaign involving Hillary Clinton operatives employed by Kremlin-linked figures and Department of Justice officials,"wrote Smith.

OMAROSA’S CLOSE FRIEND JUST BLEW A GAPING HOLE IN HER CLAIM THAT TRUMP USED THE N-WORD

Omarosa has made headlines around the country with her claims that there is a tape of Donald Trump using the N- word. The claim has caused a media firestorm and the White House has been hounded by questions about the allegation’s validity for days.

At least one fact check, however, by a major insider in Trump-world has gone virtually unnoticed. This week, a longtime Trump-ally, administration official and personal friend of Omarosa, Lynne Patton, broke her silence on the alleged N-Word tape.

Patton released a lengthy statement fact checking the claims made by Omarosa. In the document titled “Official Statement on Omarosa Manigault-Newman” Patton claims that Omarosa contacted her upon her termination at the White House claiming that a former producer on ‘The Apprentice,’ Bill Pruitt, had played her a recording of the president using the slur for her. Patton said she spoke with the producer who flatly denied having such a tape. Patton went on to call the claim of the president using the N-Word a “baseless accusation and imaginary audio tape, as falsely claimed by a former friend.”

Worcester County Law Enforcement Agencies to Co-Host Citizens Police Academy

OCEAN CITY, MD – The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) has made exciting changes to their longstanding Citizens Police Academy and is now hosting the academy in partnership with the Ocean Pines Police Department, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police Berlin Barracks. This partnership will give participants a unique look at law enforcement, not only in the resort but across Worcester County.

“We are excited to partner with our allied agencies and welcome citizens from across Worcester County to learn more about law enforcement in our area,” commented Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro. “This program allows police to build relationships with community members and we are looking forward to sharing that experience with our partners.”

The academy dates back to 1994, when Ocean Pines Police Chief Dave Massey served as the then-chief of OCPD. Massey, who will be back in action at this year’s Citizens Police Academy in Ocean City, is proud to see the academy grow into a county-wide initiative.

“One of the most successful programs I implemented as Chief of the Ocean City Police Department was the Citizens Police Academy,” said Massey. “This program demystifies the police profession with our citizens by showing them the day to day operations of the police department. Studies have shown that 90 percent of police activity with our residents is not writing tickets or making arrests, but interacting with and protecting our residents on a daily basis.”

Massey believes that educating area residents on what happens inside local police departments is critical in building trust and positive future interactions with police. “As the largest year-round residential community in Worcester County, Ocean Pines and County residents will greatly benefit from seeing how we police our communities.”

Citizens Police Academy is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 11 at 6 p.m. Classes will take place every Tuesday for ten weeks at the Ocean City Public Safety Building, located at 6501 Coastal Highway. Class size is limited to 30 participants and applicants must be 18 years of age to participate. Citizens that are interested must complete an application and give permission for the OCPD to conduct a background check. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 4.

For more information about Citizens Police Academy or to receive an application, please visit https://oceancitymd.gov/oc/departments/police/programs/ or contact the OCPD Public Affairs Office at 410-520-5395.

Station Indian River medevacs man 8 miles off of Fenwick Beach, DE

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. — A Coast Guard station boat crew medevaced a man with an injured back on a pleasure craft eight miles off of Fenwick Beach, Delaware, Wednesday.

A person from the vessel called the Coast Guard at 7:15 a.m. and reported that someone had injured his back after taking a wave. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Delaware Bay launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Indian River to recover the man.

The man was taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware, for additional care.

"Having the right communications equipment on your vessel is key to staying safe on the water," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Steven Setnicky. "Being able to contact the Coast Guard quickly ensured we got the injured man access to medical care as fast as possible. Always bring a cell phone and VHF radio with you underway."

Drug fatalities spike in Delaware: 8 deaths in 4 days from suspected overdoses

Eight people have died from suspected drug overdoses in a four-day span, prompting Delaware officials to once again warn and caution those actively struggling with addiction.

The deaths, which began Friday, doubled the number of people who have died so far this month, bringing the total to 16 fatalities in August. So far this year, 167 people have died from suspected drug overdoses.

"This horrific toll shows that no one in active use is immune from the risk of death in our state."

A former Superior police commander filmed himself having sex in his office using a department body camera, and stored pornography on a departmental computer, according to court and investigative records that portray a law enforcement agency dominated by officers who were previously fired or suspended from other departments.

The ex-commander, Anthony Doran, was the target of an administrative probe in March by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. A report from that investigation, obtained by The Arizona Republic, alleges a Superior police secretary discovered the sex video while conducting official business on Doran’s computer.

University Of Maryland Accepts Responsibility For Football Player's Death

University of Maryland President Wallace Loh admitted at a news conference on Tuesday that the school's athletic training staff "misdiagnosed" the collapse of a 19-year-old football player and that their failures led to his death weeks later.

Loh said he apologized to Jordan McNair's parents in a private meeting Tuesday morning for the team's mishandling of their son's medical needs.

"I wanted them to hear it directly from me this morning — the university accepts legal and moral responsibility for the mistakes that our training staff made on that fateful workout day of May the 29th, which of course led subsequently to his death on June 13," Loh told reporters.

It is my understanding,

A pharmacist in a Princess Anne pharmacy stopped a robbery in his store recently with his hand gun.

3 black males in their 20's from Princess Anne with an AK 47 announced a robbery and wanted the pharmacists Oxycontin.

The pharmacists opened fire with his hand gun, and the black dudes ran out.

One turned himself in, the other one was caught as well.

Hogan Administration to Provide Nearly $60 Million in Grants for Local Roads

August 31 Deadline Set for Grant Applications

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
The Hogan administration today announced $57.9 million in grants available for roads in Baltimore City and municipalities and counties across the state. The grants will be awarded to jurisdictions based on the existing formula for the distribution of Highway User Revenues (HURs). The application, which was recently released by Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), must be submitted by August 31.

“Our administration continues to fight to return highway user revenues to the local jurisdictions where they belong, which is why we are providing significantly more in grant funding for counties and municipalities to maintain their local roads,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Maryland’s counties and municipalities depend on these vital funds to maintain our roads and keep our citizens safe, and we will continue to provide as much support as possible for these important projects.”

The Hogan administration has invested $16 billion in the state’s Consolidated Transportation Plan for fiscal year 2019 – fiscal year 2024. Across MDOT, from the Port of Baltimore and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to highways and toll facilities, there are 816 projects totaling $8.8 billion currently under construction.

For the past four years, Governor Hogan has fought to return HURs to past levels after being severely reduced by the previous administration. Despite these efforts, the funding has been cut significantly and consistently by the Maryland General Assembly.

The $57.9 million in grants are in addition to the estimated $178 million in Highway User Revenues that Maryland counties and municipalities are set to receive in fiscal 2019.

“These grants make a difference for all Marylanders so it’s important for local jurisdictions to send in their applications,” said Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn.

To be considered for the grant funds, county and municipal leaders must sign and return the Transportation Grant Application Form by August 31. These signed applications certify jurisdictions will participate in the grant and use the funds only on transportation projects.

Fake America

Europeans are told America is religious, but “church going” Americans too often exhibit an undercurrent of hate mongering and hypocrisy that is impossible to not recognize, except among themselves.

Similarly, an education in history or sociology in America is akin to studying science fiction as fact.

Economics, as taught at America’s top business schools, is more fiction than fact, more fakethan fundamentals.

Many, too many, feel America’s love affair with prevarication and fakery is new-found, a thing of recent times, from the continual lies and gaffs of Trump to the bumbling idiocy of his predecessor in outright ignorance, George W. Bush.

At its heart, America is a fake nation with fake institutions, fake religions, a fake government and fake people. Anyone who comes to America notes it. Tocqueville, the author, in his first commentary on America, “Democracy in America,” began chronicling America’s descent into “hokeydom” in 1831.

Colorado School District Switches To 4-Day Week To Save Money

A Colorado school district intent on saving money has cut one of its greatest costs: teaching.

District 27J, one of the state's larger districts, has eliminated Mondays from the school week and switched to a four-day schedule, starting on Tuesday, the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. Superintendent Chris Fiedler told NBC 9 News that the district will save on transportation costs, teaching salaries and district-wide utilities.

"We anticipate about $1 million in savings," Fiedler said.

9 News reported the change comes on the heels of six failed attempts by the district to raise additional funds through bond elections.

The district serves nearly 18,000 students and includes 12 elementary schools, four middle schools, four high schools and five charter schools. It is the 98th district in state approved by the Colorado Department of Education to adopt the shorter schedule.
