Before you start calling me a crotchety old codger, I am going to follow up this article with another one listing seven things that are better now than they were all those years ago. I've been thinking for some time about how my world has changed so dramatically. I have many fond memories of the place where I grew up (Savannah, Georgia), and here is my take on how life was better (in some ways) when I was kid ... way back then.

Could Corruption Sink Joe Biden’s 2020 Aspirations? Peter Schweizer Reveals How the Vice President’s Policy Enriched His Son, Hunter Biden
Rumors swirl that former Vice President Joe Biden will be a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. Extremely early polls find strong support for him in his party. But investigative journalist and bestselling author Peter Schweizer has unearthed Biden's history of corruption, and that will prove a major issue in the upcoming election.

Thirteen indicted in murder of Canton bartender last year
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Officials have indicted 13 gang members in the murder ofSebastian Dvorak, a bartender in Canton killed in an apparent robbery a little over a year ago.
Law enforcement say a subset of the Bloods gang, called the "500" or "500 L," was behind the June 2017 murder of Dvorak, who was walking home after celebrating his 27th birthday.
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh did not specifically identify robbery as a motive in Dvorak's murder, however, during a news conference Monday.

Waters: Trump 'Will Be Impeached,' Democrats Should Make Impeachment a Central Issue

Waters appeared on the network to discuss the fallout from former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen'sguilty plea in federal court last Tuesday. Cohen also implicated the president in a potential campaign finance violation as part of hush payments to women claiming to have had affairs with Trump. Also on Tuesday, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was convicted of eight charges in a tax fraud case.

A new dangerous “super snake” could start to emerge from deep in the swampy marshes and invade dry land, according to a study. Researchers found a previously unknown subspecies, believed to be a crossbreed between Burmese and Indian pythons, which appears to be slithering around in Florida, the Miami Herald reported.
The study published in the Ecology and Evolution journal Sunday discovered the “super snakes” while examining the tail tissue of 400 pythons captured in the Everglades. “We were initially looking for the population structure to get some information to shed some light on the invasion dynamics, or the core areas where the population may be breeding and then sending off migrants,” lead author Margaret Hunter told the Miami Herald.
Most of the snakes were Burmese, which prefer swamps, but around a dozen were also related to the Indian pythons typically found writhing along high, dry ground.
Well, species diversity is a good thing, right? What could possibly go wrong?

The Latest Ploy Liberals Are Using to Try to Block Kavanaugh
Perhaps one day a court will find that Donald Trump conspired with his personal lawyer Michael Cohen to pay nondisclosure agreements meant to silence his mistresses. He is the embodiment of the idea floated by John Barth that “Man can do no wrong.”
This is something that good writers understand, villains never see themselves as villains. In their mind, they can do no wrong, that what they are doing is for the common good or a better world.
I’m binge-watching The Americans with my wife (just finished Season 3, no spoilers please) and the slow dawning realization on all of the character’s faces that what they are doing is destroying their souls has become the dominant narrative drive.
I suspect that the second half of the show’s run will focus on extricating themselves from this nightmare.
This is what makes it compelling story-telling, if massively contrived as all TV storytelling needs to be.

BREAKING NEWS: Judge dismisses all charges against 3 'extremist Muslim' New Mexico compound suspects
District Judge Emilio Chavez on Wednesday dismissed charges against three of the five defendants, ruling that authorities violated the state’s “10-day rule.”
Child abuse charges against Lucas Morton, Subhannah Wahhaj and Hujrah Wahhaj were dropped because prosecutors missed the 10-day limit for an evidentiary hearing to establish probable cause.
During a separate hearing Wednesday, Judge Jeff McElroy dismissed the same charges against fellow defendants, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and Jany Leveille. However, charges leveled against them on Friday, in connection to the death of a missing 3-year-old boy, remained.

A Chinese-owned company operating in the Washington, D.C., area hacked Hillary Clinton’s private server throughout her term as secretary of state and obtained nearly all her emails, two sources briefed on the matter told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
The Chinese firm obtained Clinton’s emails in real time as she sent and received communications and documents through her personal server, according to the sources, who said the hacking was conducted as part of an intelligence operation.
The Chinese wrote code that was embedded in the server, which was kept in Clinton’s residence in upstate New York. The code generated an instant “courtesy copy” for nearly all of her emails and forwarded them to the Chinese company, according to the sources.
The Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) found that virtually all of Clinton’s emails were sent to a “foreign entity,” Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Texas Republican, said at a July 12 House Committee on the Judiciary hearing. He did not reveal the entity’s identity, but said it was unrelated to Russia.

His desperate bellowing goes unanswered by the indifference of the trees in forest, the cold moon above, and all the other furnishings of his tragic reality.
As these things tend to happen, it looks like the exertions of Robert Mueller have turned from the alleged grave offenses of a foreign enemy to the sequela of consort with a floozie. Down goes Mr. Trump’s private attorney, Michael Cohen, in his personal swamp of incriminating files and audio recordings. Enter, stage left, one David Pecker, publisher of the venerable National Enquirer — the newspaper of wreckage — on his slime-trail of induced testimony. And there is your impeachable offense: an illegal campaign contribution.

The media is using a sneaky trick to obfuscate who is serving as the “anonymous sources” in their reporting.
On Monday, Michael Cohen’s attorney Lanny Davis admitted to BuzzFeed News that he was one of the anonymous sources cited in CNN’s reckless reporting on the 2016 Trump Tower meeting.
In addition to debunking key parts of CNN’s reporting, Davis also inadvertently revealed how CNN duped its readers into believing Davis wasn’t a source for the story.
While Davis served as an anonymous source, CNN also allowed him to decline a comment on the record. This leads readers to believe that the only communication CNN had with Davis was for him to refuse to comment on the story — even though he was one of the sources feeding CNN the story in the first place.

Jacksonville Shooter Purchased Guns Legally In MD Despite Strict Gun Laws
The perpetrator of the shooting at a Jacksonville video game tournament that left two people dead legally purchased his firearms in the state of Maryland, despite their strict gun laws.
Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said that the shooter recently purchased two handguns used in the shooting from a licensed dealer in the Baltimore area at a news conference Monday afternoon.
According to the Giffords Law Center, “Maryland prohibits any person from purchasing more than one handgun or assault weapon within a 30-day period.”
So, with the knowledge that the shooter purchased the guns legally, it would seem like he purchased one gun, waited a month and then purchased the other.
Further, Court records obtained by the Associated Press show that the shooter was previously hospitalized in psychiatric facilities on two occasions and was prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-depression medication.

The league has a long history of enforcing behavior rules for players, so why not for anthem protesters?
Much like the mainstream media blaming President Donald Trump’s criticism as the reason it has lost the trust of the American public, the leadership of the NFL and many of its players have sought to level the lion’s share of blame for the league’s tanking ratings and loss of fans on Trump and his criticism of players kneeling to protest during the national anthem.
However, as has been noted before, the NFL brought this contentious issue upon itself by failing to act decisively in setting rules against protesting during the anthem. The league made a half-hearted attempt in May — two years too late — but has effectively backed off even that.
It’s not like the NFL leadership never penalized players or teams for actions it believed detracted from the product. For example, back in 2012, the league forbid outspoken Christian Tim Tebow from wearing eye-black stickers with Bible verse references printed on them. Or take all the variety of rules the league has created surrounding celebrations. How about all those uniform rules? In 2013, Brandon Marshall was fined by the league for wearing green cleats in his bid to raise awareness for mental health disorders. In 2015, DeAngelo Williams was fined for wearing “Find the Cure” eye-black for breast cancer awareness. And maybe the worst example of the league behaving like rule-nazis was disallowing the Dallas Cowboys from wearing a helmet decal honoring the five Dallas police officers killed in the line of duty by a deranged anti-police bigot in 2016.

Saudi Arabia executed and then crucified a man in the city of Mecca on Wednesday, employing a rare form of punishment the kingdom uses for grave crimes.
Elias Abulkalaam Jamaleddeen was accused of breaking into the home of a woman from Myanmar and stabbing her to death, Bloomberg reported, citing the Saudi Interior Ministry.
He was further charged with attempting to rape a separate woman and kill a man whose house he also broke into.

And the experts who did the research say it is possible the drug could have an impact on an infant's brain development.
They recommend women quit using marijuana while breastfeeding to make sure their babies are not harmed.

Three Pennsylvania men have been arrested and charged with 1,460 counts of “sexual intercourse with animals,” in addition to animal abuse and endangering the welfare of children, according to Clearfield County District Attorney.
In what District Attorney William A. Shaw, Jr described as one of the “most extreme cases of animal abuse,” the three suspects were detained after a search at their makeshift farm last week, authorities announced on Monday. Bail was set at $100,000 each for Terry Wallace, 41, Matthew Brubaker, 32, and Marc Measnikoff, 34.
Authorities conducted the search following a tip-off from a “16-year-old juvenile male” who was reportedly living with the trio, and has since been taken into protective custody. “Right now we don’t believe the juvenile was sexually victimized,” Shaw said, although the suspects were still charged with “endangering the welfare of children.”

NPR: Over 66 Percent of Claimed Shootings Never Happened
NPR examined a U.S. Education Department study and discovered that over 66 percent of reported school shootings for 2015-2016 school year never occurred.
The Education Department claims there were “nearly 240 schools … [which] reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting.”
But NPR contacted schools and districts and was able to substantiate that 161 of the incidents “never happened.” They verified that something did occur in four instances, “but it didn’t meet the government’s parameters for a shooting.”

While the Global Warming fanatics are out in force saying “see” the heat in Europe is caused by humans driving their cars around, they continue to ignore history...The extreme heat in Europe this year is part of a cycle.
The swings from extreme heat to extreme cold are also not unheard of. Another piece of historical evidence they ignore is known as the Hunger Stones.
This year’s drought in Europe has exposed once again the Hunger Stones that have been used for centuries to commemorate historic droughts which warn of their consequences when you see these stones again. The Hunger Stones are visible in the Elbe River once again. This is a major river which begins in the Czech Republic and flows through Germany. There are more than a dozen Hunger Stones that serve as records of previous droughts establishing that the extreme heat and drought of this year is by no means unique to history.
The various Hunger Stones record droughts that resulted in famine and soaring prices for food. The droughts that have been recorded on the stones date to 1417, 1616, 1707, 1746, 1790, 1800, 1811, 1830, 1842, 1868, 1892, and 1893, which covers a period of 476 years. This produces an average of 39.6 years. Just applying that average would bring you to 2012. However, we have to look closer. Note that two years 1892 and 1893 are back-to-back. This does not reflect two separate droughts, but the peak in intensity. Instead of there being TWO separate droughts, it is the same even just extended. That means there were really 11 events within this 476-year span of history and low and behold this alters the average to 43.27 years. ADAMS: UNC, The University of Narcissistic Criminals
This semester, I began my twenty-sixth year as a professor in the UNC system. Over the course of the last quarter century, I have seen a sharp increase in the raw intellectual ability of our students. Unfortunately, I have also seen a sharp decline in the emotional maturity of our students. These students are increasingly unwilling to debate ideas they find to be objectionable. Unfortunately, in this age of social media, they are also more likely to engage in mob-like behavior when confronted with ideas that challenge campus orthodoxy.
Recently, this tendency to elevate emotions above ideas was on full display at our flagship campus when a mob that included many UNC students toppled the statue of Silent Sam. I wish to make some suggestions about how we should deal with this kind of behavior. But first I wish to say something about the psychological mentality that is driving it. That mentality is often misunderstood and therefore mischaracterized by cultural commentators.
We make a serious error when we characterize today’s progressive students as “snowflakes.” The epithet wrongly implies that these kids are incapable of handling an opposing viewpoint due to emotional weakness. The mischaracterization is understandable given that our campus speech codes explicitly tell students they have a right to be shielded from ideas that make them feel “uncomfortable” or which they might deem to be “offensive.” Were we to actually enforce these codes uniformly, a form of reverse Darwinism would soon shape campus debate.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a 12-year old girl who was reported missing while swimming at Sandy Point State Park, Maryland, Tuesday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a notification at approximately 6:40 p.m. from Anne Arundel County 911 that the child, who was last seen wearing a black and pink bathing suit, had reportedly gone under the water and did not resurface.
Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region command center launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Annapolis.
Also searching is Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resource Police Marine Unit, Annapolis Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

One of the most important books of the 20th century—it remains a best-seller 59 years after it was first published—is “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl.
Marx saw man’s primary drive as economic, and Freud saw it as sex. But Frankl believed—correctly, in my opinion—that the greatest drive of man is meaning.
One can be poor and chaste and still be happy. But one cannot be bereft of meaning and be happy—no matter how rich or how sexually fulfilled one may be.
The greatest provider of meaning for the vast majority of human beings has been religion. In the West, Christianity (and on a smaller scale, Judaism) provided nearly all people with the Bible, a divine or divinely inspired text to guide their lives; a religious community; answers to life’s fundamental questions; and, above all, meaning: A good God governs the universe; death does not end everything; and human beings were purposefully created.
In addition, Christianity gave Christians a project: Spread the Good News, and bring the world to Christ. And Judaism gave Jews a project: Live by God’s laws of ethics and holiness and be “a light unto the nations.”
All this has disappeared for most Westerners. The Bible is regarded as myth, silly at best, malicious at worst—there is no God, certainly not the morality-giving and judging God of the Bible; there is no afterlife; human beings are a purposeless coincidence with no more intrinsic purpose than anything else in the universe. In short: This is all there is.
So, if the need for meaning is the greatest of all human needs and that which supplied meaning no longer does, what are millions of Westerners supposed to do?

On Sunday, the young men that gathered to participate in the Madden Championship Series tournament in Jacksonville probably never imagined that they would be in any sort of danger, but then gunfire erupted around 1 PM. Approximately 20 rounds were fired before the shooter killed himself, and it is being reported that 11 gamers were injured and 2 were killed. One of the victims that was killed was Taylor ‘SpotMePlzzz’ Robertson. He was a good man with a wife and a very small son, and now his son won’t have a father for the rest of his life. There have been many other mass shootings in recent years, but this one was just so senseless. Personally, I have just been really shaken up all day. Why would anyone ever want to kill somebody over a video game?
According to authorities, it has been confirmed that the shooter was 24-year-old David Katz…

Document Your Old Quilt For Posterity!
Do you have an old quilt you treasure, and perhaps would like to learn a little more about it? And if so, would you be willing to enter information about it in a database Westside Historical Society is developing for future generations to enjoy and to learn about an important tradition once prevalent on Delmarva?
Those who made quilts for the purpose of keeping warm also created a beautiful “picture-story” of their lives and times, and historians can learn much from them. This project is one way to tell that story. Each quilt will be photographed and a questionnaire will be completed that provides the information that goes into the database. Information and photos gathered for this bank of information will be available to scholars who study family history of the area as well as the art and cultural history of this art form. Information on how to date quilts, counterpanes, and coverlets and how to care for them also will be available, as well as an exhibit from Westside Historical Society’s collections holdings.
Reservations are not required, and quilts will be documented in the order in which they arrive. Participants are asked to limit to three the number of quilts per person being entered in the data base, since documentation of each quilt may take 10 to 15 minutes, depending on its intricacy. The fee is $5 for each or $10 for three items. There is no minimum on the age of the quilts being documented nor do they have to be made on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Coverlets and counterpanes also may be brought for documentation.
The event will be held in the Education Wing of the Methodist Church on Main St. in Mardela Springs; doors will open at 11 am and close at 3:00, Saturday, September 8. There will be no monetary appraisals at this event. Andrew Cuomo's Contempt for America Is Normal on the Left
The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, did Americans a favor last week. He provided that which is most indispensable to understanding anything: clarity.
“America … was never that great,” he announced.
In one sentence, the governor revealed the left’s true view of America. This is rare—because leftists are masters at hiding what they really believe.
For example, the left’s low regard for nonwhites is well-hidden under a mountain of “anti-racist” rhetoric. But people who consistently advocate lowering standards for blacks obviously do not think highly of blacks, and people who believe in separate black dorms and separate black graduation ceremonies obviously believe in a pillar of racism: racial segregation.
Another generally denied—if not hidden—left-wing belief is contempt for America. On a daily basis, the left describes America as xenophobic, misogynistic, imperialist, greedy, and homophobic. And that’s on a slow day at The New York Times, MSNBC, or your local university. Just last week, a New York Times column added “barbaric” to the left’s view of America.
But for some reason, the average American does not see all this as proof of the left’s contempt for America.
So, we have to rely on the occasional unguarded and unambiguous statement to know what the left really thinks.

A document detailing what Democrats intend to do to try to take out President Donald Trump should they take the House majority in November 2018 has emerged.
Under the headline “Scoop: Republicans secretly study their coming hell,” Axios’s Jonathan Swan on Sunday evening revealed the existence of the document that lists exactly the line of attack the Democrats plan to pursue should they win control of the House in the midterm elections. The document specifically focuses on certain investigatory pathways and lines of inquiry they have already sought.
The document, prepared by House GOP officials, walks through document and interview requests Democrats have already sent to the Trump administration, the president’s business The Trump Organization, and the president’s campaign in 2016.
“Congressional Republicans are getting ready for hell. Axios has obtained a spreadsheet that’s circulated through Republican circles on and off Capitol Hill — including at least one leadership office — that meticulously previews the investigations Democrats will likely launch if they flip the House,” Swan writes.

Meadows: "We've Learned NEW Information" Suggesting FBI/DOJ Leaked To Press, Used Articles To Obtain FISA Warrants
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) dropped a late-night bombshell on Monday suggesting there's evidence that the FBI and DOJ rigged their own FISA spy warrants by leaking information to the press, then using the resultant articles to obtain court authorization to surveil targets.
FBI/DOJ have previously leaked info to the press, and then used those same press stories as a separate source to justify FISA's," tweeted Meadows.
Until now, we've known that the creator of the so-called Steele Dossier, former UK spy Christopher Steele, leaked information directly to Yahoo! News journalist Michael Isikoff - whose article became a supporting piece of evidence in the FBI's FISA warrant application and subsequent renewals for Trump adviser Carter Page.
So while we've known that Steele seeded Isikoff with information from his dubious dossier, and that the FBI then used both Steele's dossier and Isikoff's Steele-inspired article to game the FISA system, Rep. Mark Meadows now says that the FBI/DOJ directly leaked information to the press, which they then used for the same type of FISA scheme.
Strong evidence was discovered in January suggesting that former FBI employee Lisa Page leaked privileged information to Devlin Barrett, formerly of the Wall Street Journal and now with the Washington Post. Whether any of Barrett's reporting was subsequently used to obtain a FISA warrant is unknown.

Another very fake news scandal has engulfed CNN as the network’s credibility crisis reaches another fever pitch just over a year after three senior network staffers were forced to resign in disgrace over a similar scandal.
This time, though, famed Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein is at the center of the scandal, and the network for now is dug in despite deep criticism from across the political and ideological spectrum as far-ranging as Breitbart News and Daily Caller among others on one side, and the Associated Press, Washington Post, BuzzFeed, and more on the other.
It all began on July 27 when CNN’s Bernstein shared a byline with former Barack Obama administration official and chief CNN national security correspondent Jim Sciutto, along with CNN researcher and producer Marshall Cohen, with the headline: “Cohen claims Trump knew in advance of 2016 Trump Tower meeting.”

GOP Prepares For "Coming Hell" If Democrats Take House In Midterms
While Congressional Republicans are putting on a good face in public going into the November midterms, they are privately panicking over the House flipping to the Democrats this November - a possibility which Compass Point analyst Isaac Boltansky places at 70%.
Axios has obtained a spreadsheet circulating through Republican circles "on and off Capitol Hill - including at least one leadership office," which catalogs a list of probes they expect Democrats to launch if they regain control of the House.
The spreadsheet includes requests for administration officials to be grilled by committee staff, requests for hearings to obtain sworn testimony, efforts to seize communications about controversial policies and personnel decisions, and subpoena threats. -Axios

Cooling Center in Wicomico County to Open Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30, 2018
A cooling center will be opened at the Wicomico County Civic Center (Flanders Room) on Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 500 Glen Avenue Salisbury, MD 21804. Residents will need to bring their own food, beverages, and medications. No pets are permitted. Anyone needing transportation to the Civic Center should call Shore Transit at 443-260-2300 (select “dispatch” option).
The MAC Inc., Senior Center will open a cooling center on Thursday, August 29 only, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., for residents ages 55 and over. MAC is located at 909 Progress Circle, Salisbury, MD 21804.
Infants, young children, young athletes, obese persons, those older than 65 years of age, and those persons with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or a mental illness are at increased risk for a heat-related illness. A heat-related illness can become life-threatening very quickly. The Wicomico County Health Department urges everyone to practice these stay cool safety tips:
§ Seek air-conditioned environments such as malls, libraries and public places. Stay indoors.
§ Schedule outdoor activities before 10:00 am and after 6:00 pm.
§ Take a cool bath or shower.
§ Minimize direct exposure to the sun, if you must be outdoors, seek shade.
§ Stay hydrated – regularly drink water or other nonalcoholic fluids.
§ Eat light, cool, easy-to-digest foods such as fruit or salads.
§ Limit using the stove or oven to keep the house cooler.
§ Check on others; co-workers, the elderly, and those living alone.
§ Wear loose fitting, light-colored clothes.
§ Bring pets indoors. If they must remain outside make sure they have shade and plenty of clean, fresh water.

Attorney General Frosh Announces Convictions in Connection with Organized Retail Theft Conspiracy
BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today announced the convictions of three defendants in connection with their participation in a large-scale organized retail theft scheme. Donna Moye (40), Tyrayah Graham (23), and Tiara Baker (20) pleaded guilty in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Graham and Baker pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a theft scheme of $100,000 or more. Moye pleaded guilty to theft scheme over $100,000.
“These women planned and operated a brazen, coordinated shoplifting ring,” said Attorney General Frosh. “Many of them walked into a store together, overwhelmed what security was present, grabbed expensive merchandise and fled.”
