MSNBC Hosts Ali Velshi and Katy Tur advocated "spreading the wealth" for a better school system while discussing the Los Angeles teachers strike while hosting MSNBC on Wednesday.
Velshi said schools need more money to ensure better education in the future.
"We have thought that, if you just keep on defunding schools, it will adjust itself, class sizes will get a little larger but everybody will just manage," he said.
"You can't begrudge a parent for wanting to take their child out of a school and putting them into another one if they can afford it," Tur said. "But at the same time, a rising tide lifts all boats, in the community and the school in the community, and spreading the wealth."

Horrors of WWII are brought to life in a series of colourised images
The brutal reality of the Second World War has been brought to life in a series of stunning yet emotional colourised images from one of the world's most devastating conflicts.
Striking shots show Sergeant Jake McNiece of the 101st Airborne Division, ready to drop into Normandy, a Marine comforting a brother who broke down after witnessing the death of a friend and American troops walk down a war ravaged street, Messina, Sicily.
Other vivid colour pictures show U.S. Army military policemen toasting bread over molten lava from Mount Vesuvius after its eruption and the crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress 'Memphis Belle' at an air base in England after completing 25 missions over enemy territory.
The original black and white photographs were painstakingly colourised by design engineer Paul Reynolds, 48, from Birmingham.
He said: 'I mostly colourise war photos because each photo usually has a story to tell, stories of real everyday people.
'I think colourising detailed photos really brings them to life. You notice detail that usually gets missed due to the monotone background.

Conservative radio host in hiding after receiving threat of mass shooting
Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage has “changed locations” after a restaurant he frequents received a mass shooting threat for serving him.
The undisclosed establishment allegedly received an email warning of “serious f—ing damage” if they allowed Savage to dine at the restaurant again.
“I DEMAND THAT YOU REFUSE TO ALLOW MICHAEL… IN YOUR F—ING RESTAURANT AGAIN,” reads the threat, which was obtained by the Washington Times. “HE IS A RACIST WHITE SUPREMACIST PIECE OF S—T.”
The email goes on to refer to Savage as a “crypto Jew” who the sender plans to kill, along with turning the restaurant into a “shooting gallery” unless they refuse to serve him.

OPINION: The Greenist Manifesto: Democrats’ Socialist Green New Deal
One by one, we have seen the 2020 candidates for the Democratic nomination — both presumed and declared — voice support for a “Green New Deal.” The mere fact that this idea is being taken seriously should be of concern to every freedom loving American.
The Green New Deal is truly a Greenist Manifesto: a call for reviving old socialist ideas, but this time, with green characteristics.
The list of “green” proposals is as comprehensive as it is fanciful: reaching 100-percent renewable power, building a nation-wide smart grid, upgrading every building for energy efficiency, eliminating greenhouse gases from industry and transportation, and funding massive investment in a “drawdown” of greenhouse gases, among others. All within a mere 10 years.
A low-end attempt to estimate the cost of these proposals adds up to many trillions of dollars per year. But even before considering the astronomical cost, there is a more practical barrier: the bounds of technology and even physics. Simply put, these goals are not possible.

Trump facing 'coup,' FBI brass was in cahoots, Dowd tells Fox's Kilmeade
President Donald Trump’s former attorney John Dowd told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade that he believes the president is facing a ‘coup’ and the recent reports regarding the president’s relationship with Russia prove that.
Appearing Monday on Fox News Radio’s “Brian Kilmeade Show,” Dowd accused special counsel Robert Mueller, former FBI Director James Comey, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe of conspiring against the president.
“Little did I know that it appears that they were all in it together,” Dowd said. “I mean Rosenstein, Comey, Mueller, McCabe, the whole crowd and they were out to get this president no matter what. I don't think they sincerely believed anything about Russia.”
“This is our worst nightmare that someone with that kind of power would then decide to go after the President. I mean it's a coup,” Dowd said. “That's what it is an attempted coup by Comey and his crowd. And the evidence is all over there. I take the New York Times article as an admission of their bad behavior.”
The New York Times reported Friday that the FBI opened an investigation to determine if President Trump was working for Russia.

Veteran Maryland officer accused of rear-ending vehicle while driving drunk, then resisting arrest
A longtime Maryland police officer was suspended without pay after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle while driving drunk and then fighting officers who arrived at the scene.
Sgt. Kenneth Collier of the Anne Arundel County Police Department was arrested Saturday after officers responded to an accident in Crofton.
“Through their investigation officers believed Collier was under the influence of alcohol,” police said in a statement. “When officers initiated the arrest for the suspected DWI, Collier resisted arrest and assaulted officers on the scene.”
Police say Collier, a 21-year veteran of the department, was off-duty when he rear-ended another vehicle with his truck.
Collier has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He has been suspended without pay pending the results of an investigation into the accident, in which no one was injured.

Trump Warns Of New Migrant Caravan Leaving Honduras
As the battle over President Trump's border wall drags on for its fourth week, President Trump is warning about a new migrant caravan forming in Honduras and will soon be on it way to the Southern border.
In his tweet, Trump mocked Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, warning that "a drone flying around will not stop" the advancing migrant hordes. Once the next wave arrives, "Only a Wall, or Steel Barrier, will keep our Country safe!"

Gregg Jarrett: Michael Flynn is innocent, wrongly prosecuted by Mueller to hurt Trump
If you want a textbook example of wrongful prosecution of a man who should never have been charged with a crime, just look at the case of retired Army Lt. Gen. and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
New documents released Friday by Special Counsel Robert Mueller make it clear that Flynn is a victim of an overzealous team of prosecutors absolutely desperate to show that President Trump and his campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election.
The new court filings provide yet more proof that Mueller will stop at almost nothing and run over anyone who gets in his way as he tries to build a case against the president after 19 months of his anti-Trump crusade.
Mueller doesn’t really care about Flynn. He wants to use Flynn to destroy Donald Trump.
Plain and simple, the information made public Friday shows that the FBI lied to Flynn to ensnare him in the crime of making a false statement, even though Flynn did not lie.
The new documents show without a doubt that Flynn never should have been prosecuted. They show that even the FBI agents who interviewed Flynn about his contacts with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak concluded Flynn was telling the truth. But Flynn’s statements about those contacts later became the basis of the charge against him of lying to the FBI.

Student Debt Crisis Worsens: Florida Board Of Health Suspends Licenses Over Defaults
If they aren’t paying their loans while they have an income, what makes anyone think they’ll start paying the loans once they have no income?
The Florida Board of Health has suspended thousands of healthcare licenses over defaults on student loans many used to earn their licenses.
But many are concerned that the new crackdown may only worsen the student loan crisis.
The revocation of licenses came after the student loan industry lobbied the government to enact punishments for those who can’t or won’t repay the money they borrowed. According to ABC Action News, only Florida is enforcing this law as of right now. The state also has the power to garnish up to 100% of a worker’s wages until the loan is repaid and the license is reinstated. Under Florida law, once the state suspends a license for student loan default, the only way to get it back is to pay a fine equal to 10 percent of the balance, plus other costs.

Stockman Slams "Deep State Handmaid" NYTimes Over Trump Smear: "Are You F**king Kidding Me?"
The Donald has been on a red hot twitter rampage, and he's completely justified. Actually, we didn't think the Russian Collusion Hoax could get any stupider until we saw the New York Times' Friday evening bushwhack.
The trio of authors, apparently self-tortured victims of the Trump Derangement Syndrome, actually had the gall to print a story in the once and former Gray Lady of journalistic rectitude which was nothing more than an ugly smear on the sitting President of the United States - one that would have done Joe McCarthy proud:
In the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as FBI director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.
The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow’s influence.

How much members of Congress get paid even during government shutdowns
The record-setting partial government shutdown, which began Dec. 22, continues to drag on, meaning hundreds of thousands of federal employees are being asked to work without pay or to stay home. But members of Congress are still collecting paychecks.
It's in the Constitution, as The Washington Times reported last year at this time, during a different shutdown: "Article I, Section 6 of the U.S. Constitution allows the lawmakers to still get paid their salaries, despite the federal government being shut down due to their inability to reach an agreement."
Just how much do members of Congress bring home?
They've been receiving an annual salary since 1855, when they were paid $3,000 per year. Currently, "the compensation for most Senators, Representatives, Delegates, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico is $174,000," the Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports, with a few exceptions. They also receive retirement and health benefits among others.

Former top FBI lawyer James Baker subject of criminal media leak probe, transcript reveals
The former top lawyer at the FBI has been under federal investigation for leaking to the media, a letter from House Republicans revealed Tuesday.
The letter from GOP Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows cited the transcript of a congressional interview with former General Counsel James Baker and his lawyer last fall, where the probe conducted by seasoned U.S. Attorney John Durham was confirmed.
“You may or may not know, [Baker has] been the subject of a leak investigation … a criminal leak investigation that’s still active at the Justice Department,” lawyer Daniel Levin told lawmakers, as he pushed back on questions about his client’s conversations with reporters.
Jordan and Meadows’ letter was sent to Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut, and requested additional information about the probe later this month.
"As we continue our oversight and investigative work, we felt it prudent to write to you seeking an update. Without being apprised of the contours of your leak investigation and Baker’s role, we run the risk of inadvertently interfering with your prosecutorial plans," they wrote.

Trump's shutdown trap?
Has President Trump suckered Democrats and the Deep State into a trap that will enable a radical downsizing of the federal bureaucracy? In only five more days of the already "longest government shutdown in history" (25 days and counting, as of today), a heretofore obscure threshold will be reached, enabling permanent layoffs of bureaucrats furloughed 30 days or more.
Don't believe me that federal bureaucrats can be laid off? Well, in bureaucratese, a layoff is called a RIF – a Reduction in Force – and of course, it comes with a slew of civil service protections. But, if the guidelines are followed, bureaucrats can be laid off – as in no more job. It is all explained by Michael Roberts here (updated after the beginning of the partial shutdown):
A reduction in force is a thoughtful and systematic elimination of positions. For all practical purposes, a government RIF is the same thing as a layoff. ...
Organizations must stick to predetermined criteria when sorting out what happens to each employee. They must communicate with employees how and why decisions are made. ...
In deciding who stays and who goes, federal agencies must take four factors into account:

Cleopatra, the queen of white privilege
Social justice bores are in a tizzy over the latest reports that certain actresses are being considered to reprise the role of Egyptian queen Cleopatra, not because one of them is the woefully overhyped Lady Gaga and the other is the hopelessly contrived Angelina Jolie, but rather that both of the celebrities are white.
Here's the thing: Cleopatra was white. In fact, as the same social justice bores might put it, she exemplified white privilege. A product of centuries of inbreeding, Cleopatra inherited her prestige and slept her way up to the top. In practice, she lacked the political acumen, and her real beauty must have paled in comparison to that of the iconic Liz Taylor, who infamously took on the role in her heyday.
The Ptolemaic dynasty of which Cleopatra was one, was all Macedonian Greeks. How did they maintain that racial makeup while ruling Egypt for generations? Inbreeding.

OxyContin maker promised 'a blizzard of prescriptions that will bury the competition'
A member of the family that owns OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma told people at the prescription opioid painkiller's launch party in the 1990s that it would be 'followed by a blizzard of prescriptions that will bury the competition,' according to court documents filed Tuesday.
OxyContin and Connecticut-based Purdue Pharma are at the center of lawsuits across the country accusing the drug industry of being responsible for an opioid crisis that killed 72,000 Americans in 2017.
The details of the speech by Richard Sackler were made public on Tuesday in a case brought by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey that accuses Purdue Pharma, its executives and the Sackler family of deceiving patients and doctors about the risks of opioids and pushing prescribers to keep patients on the drug longer.
The documents provide information about former Purdue Pharma President Richard Sackler's role in overseeing sales of OxyContin that hasn't been public before.

Democrats Turn On Obama's "Establishment" Legacy As 2020 Approaches
As Democrats turn their attention to the 2020 primaries, there is a marked sense of deflation over the prospects of beating Donald Trump. The thought of candidacies from Elizabeth Warren - botched DNA "reveal" aside, and the ever-confident Joe Biden, have failed to stoke much excitement throughout the Democratic base.
As Vanity Fair's T.A. Frank notes, Democrats surveying their options going into 2020 have begun to genuinely question the state of their party - and an increasing number of them are settling on the conclusion that Obama was a bad president.
If today’s Democrats can’t beat Trump, then maybe Hillary Clinton wasn’t as bad a candidate as her critics claimed. And if Clinton wasn’t the problem, then what was the problem? Such questions are behind a recent spike of debates on the left over Barack Obama’s record. More and more voices seem to be saying, either obliquely or bluntly, that Obama was a bad president. -Vanity Fair
Most on the left will agree that when Obama ran he was the obvious choice vs. his Republican opponents. In fact, Democrats who object to how Obama handled major issues such as war and peace, health care, immigration and the economy would likely conclude that he was still the better of all the evils on the right.

Springfield Joins Ranks of Sanctuary Cities, Over Objections of Mayor
Springfield city officials can’t ask people about their immigration status and Springfield police can’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities unless they have a warrant under a new local ordinance approved by the city council.
The council overrode a veto by Mayor Dominic Sarno on Monday night, enacting the so-called “Welcoming Community Trust Ordinance.”
The council voted 10-1 to override the veto, more than the two-thirds needed. The result was expected, since the council approved the ordinance 10-3 on December 17, before the mayor vetoed it.
The new ordinance includes the following provisions:
“A. A city official shall not question persons they encounter about their immigration status unless such inquiry is required by state or federal law or to provide a public benefit. Nothing in this subsection shall prohibit the Springfield Police department from using other investigatory tools to establish information about a suspect of crime.”

Brit Hume Criticizes ‘Completely Bogus’ NYT Report On Steve King, Critiques Media For ‘Weaponizing’ Racist Charge
Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume criticized a New York Times report that offered a timeline of Iowa Congressman Steve King’s “racist remarks and divisive actions.”
Appearing on Tuesday night’s edition of “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” Hume noted that, while King’s recent comments were “just too close for comfort” and were rightly condemned, the media should also be careful “flinging” around a term like “racist,” which has a specific meaning.

The Left's Legacy of Lying Comes to the Border Wall
Democrats and others on the left offer three reasons for their opposition to building a wall on America’s southern border.
1. A wall is ineffective.
2. A wall is too expensive.
3. A wall is immoral.
Each one is false, so false as to constitute lies. So, the only question is: Do Democrats and others on the left believe these lies?
This question has plagued me all my life. Leftism is built on lies—and has been since Lenin. That’s why he named the Communist Party’s lying newspaper “Pravda” (“truth”).
Did my left-wing professors at Columbia University really believe the United States and the Soviet Union were equally responsible for the Cold War? Did they really believe one of the most genocidal regimes in history—which butchered tens of millions its own people, starved as many as 4 million Ukrainians, enslaved seven Eastern European countries under totalitarian rule, and created the monstrous North Korean communist regime—was no more responsible for the Cold War than the United States, the freest country in human history?

Whoever is telling him to hold on to this information is giving him bad advice.

Lawmakers Eye Changes to Ballot Measures -- Passed and Future
Legislators are seeking to roll back some of the high-profile ballot measures that voters approved in November. They also want to make it harder for initiatives to pass in the future.
Ballot measures have become a popular way to enact new policies -- from minimum wage hikes and legalized marijuana to abortion restrictions andethics reforms.
But voter-approved measures are meeting more pushback.
Republican legislators in several states are fighting ballot measures on two fronts: As was the case following the 2016 election, they are trying to overturn provisions of some laws that voters just passed in November. They are also seeking legislative changes that would make it harder for ballot measures to pass in the future.
"Lawmakers are undermining the will of their constituents by unraveling these voter-approved changes and attacking the ballot measure process," says Chris Melody Fields Figueredo, executive director of the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, which promotes progressive ballot measures.
Progressives in particular have sought in recent years to push ideas through the initiative process that couldn't win approval through legislatures, such as minimum wage increases and the creation of independent redistricting commissions.

Analyst: Pope’s Popularity Slump Marks Fading Trust in Globalism
The approval rating of Pope Francis declined all over Europe during the course of 2018, a new analysis observed Wednesday, in large part because of his ever-less popular pro-immigration stance and other globalist positions.
Among German Catholics, the pope’s popularity plummeted by a staggering 20 percentage points in one year, notes analyst Francesco Galietti, who runs the political risk consultancy Policy Sonar, and with Francis at its helm, the Catholic Church as a whole also suffered a drop of 9 percent in its approval rating among the same constituency.
In Italy, as well, support for the Argentine pontiff waned in 2018, Galietti observes, with surveys indicating that the pope’s approval rating fell by five percentage points over the course of the year, from 77 to 72 percent.

Beto O’Rourke Wonders If The Constitution Still Works
In a lengthy interview with The Washington Post, potential presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke wondered if the United States Constitution might be too outdated to deal with the issues facing the country.
The reporter asked the Texas Democrat about a range of issues and noticed how he “boomeranged between a bright-eyed hope that the United States will soon dramatically change its approach to a whole host of issues and a dismal suspicion that the country is now incapable of implementing sweeping change,” according to WaPo.
When asked to narrow down what the future holds, whether the country will solve its problem or simply avoid them and face a long decline, O’Rourke wasn’t sure. “Does this still work?” O’Rourke asked WaPo. “Can an empire like ours with military presence in over 170 countries around the globe, with trading relationships … and security agreements in every continent, can it still be managed by the same principles that were set down 230-plus years ago?”

State Senator Wants To Pay Coast Guard Personnel With State Funds During Federal Shutdown
A Massachusetts state senator is calling on the state legislature to appropriate state funds to pay U.S. Coast Guard personnel stationed in Massachusetts during the partial federal government shutdown.
More than 2,000 active-duty and reserve personnel of the Coast Guard are being forced to work during the shutdown without getting paid for it, according to the Salem News.
State Senator Diana DiZoglio (D-Methuen) filed the bill, which calls for sending the federal government a bill after the shutdown for whatever amount the state pays out, according to the Salem News.

A Viewer Writes: delmarvanow.com listing "local" events for Salisbury - NORTH CAROLINA?!?!
"Local" calendar needs fixing (Hall Gym is in Salisbury NC):
I alerted them Sunday, but have received no reply and the incorrect listings are still there.
While web-Surfing on the delmarvanow.com site for indoor activities for me and my family this winter, I was very excited by a number of FREE opportunities at Hall Gym, a venue I had not previously heard of. Looking into this further, it appears that the events are actually for Salisbury, NORTH CAROLINA, not Salisbury, MARYLAND . Oops!

Laura Loomer sets up illegal immigrant 'sanctuary' on Nancy Pelosi's lawn
Conservative provocateur Laura Loomer’s latest stunt included bringing a trio of self-described illegal immigrants to set up a “sanctuary” on House Speaker Nancy’s Pelosi’s lawn in California.
Ms. Loomer live-streamed the stunt on Periscope on Monday as a protest against the Democratic Party’s opposition to President Trump’s proposed southern border wall and Mrs. Pelosi’s characterization of the wall as “immoral.”
Ms. Loomer and her “amigos” reportedly from Mexico and Guatemala are seen in the video jumping over a small wall at Mrs. Pelosi’s Napa home and setting up a white tent on the lawn painted with the word “immorality.”
“Nancy is a very rich Democrat, and she believes that everyone is welcome here, and sanctuary is a human right,” Ms. Loomer said in the video.
The Daily Beast reporter Will Sommer, who was at the scene, tweeted that police eventually showed up and demanded that Ms. Loomer and the others provide identification, which they refused.
“[Calif. Gov.] Gavin Newsom said we don’t need IDs,” Ms. Loomer reportedly told the police.
