A New Library Is NOT Needed

Don't you dare let County Executive Rick Pollitt or Mayor Jim Ireton fool you Folks, a new Wicomico Library is absolutely not necessary or needed. Look deeper into this topic and you'll see exactly why Council Members are being fooled into such a project.

You see, space has become an extremely valuable commodity within our local Government. The County has clearly grown, almost two fold. Space had to be given up for the County Executive and many others and this impeded on the City's space in the GOB.

The City has also grown with new positions and assistants that go along with them. There has been a contract for many years in which the City of Salisbury simply has to turn over $1.00 and sign the contract stating they take full responsibility for 1/2 of the GOB, (Government Office Building) yet the City has refused to sign the contract, even after we pushed the issue more than 2 years ago. Many Citizens were unaware of the contract to begin with and simply thought the City owned 1/2 of the building. Lord knows, you paid for 1/2, but that's not good enough.

So the County isn't complaining because they've had a tenant footing half the bills and maintenance but the City wants their own building. So how do you make such a project happen in such a horrible economy? YOU PLAY POLITICS!

ANY time our local government comes up with ridiculous ideas with wasteful spending, a red flag goes up in my mind and all I have to do, (in most cases) is look at the obvious. If there's one place money is available through Grants, it's a Library. You know, grow out of the space you're in and the Feds step in with millions of taxpayer dollars. I know, (says Gary Comegys, Barrie Tilghman and others) let's build something with a mini mall attached too for retail, just like Rockville did.

Well guess what Folks, there's an additional 12,500 square feet in the lower level of that Library. Did you also know they have a truck or two that delivers your books to regional Libraries as well. Oh, you may think this is minute but let me assure you, YOU pay for the employees doing so, gas, vehicles to deliver the books, maintenance and believe me, it adds up.

If they simply shut down the regional Library portion of their main building they would gain an additional 12,500 square feet, MORE then they'll ever need. Libraries are getting smaller, not bigger. Follow the trend. While it's hard for many to accept, the younger generations are now depending on computers and not as many books. In 10 years books will be almost obsolete, just like newspapers.

If they want to spend money, open more regional Libraries and do NOT relocate. The ONLY reason the City and County are encouraging this entire project is because THEY need more space and the current Library is PERFECT, hence the FREE GIFT of property from the City to the County, HELLOOOOO!

This kind of misleading governing has to end! We need fiscally responsible representatives and not bureaucrats. Now comes the biggest question. Is a new Library a desperate need to America? Yes, I asked that question properly because every single taxpaying American will foot the bill, (should they move forward) and we need to start asking ourselves, is the building falling down, absolutely not! Is it in disrepair, hell no it's not! In fact, that building was designed to last another 50 years!

Enough is Enough with this spending for luxury items. I have never once heard of one single legitimate reason why we need a new Library. I have been to numerous meetings and everything is a BS excuse. My Father in Law was the Director of the Wicomico Library System for some 20 years and he is outraged at this proposal. We spend millions of dollars on additional salaries for the bottom floor regional staff just to push books to other locations. It needs to be shut down completely and temporary buildings, (like Pittsville had) need to go up instead. If they're successful, build a small Library there. If they're not, shut it down, relocate the temporary building to another proposed prime spot and go from there.

However, building a multi million dollar structure, giving up extremely valuable real estate, simply because you want more space in the GOB is WRONG! I have nothing against Libraries. I have issues with being fiscally responsible and the MSM, (Main Stream Media) only reports what they're delivered and no homework is done as to WHY.

The reason Blogs have become so successful is because of articles like this. Citizens are, (in many cases) too busy to dig deeper into these matters and while most depend on local MSM to deliver them local news, you just can't do it in a 15 second television piece. The local newspaper uses the excuse, we published what we were told. So they don't ask any challenging questions and for far too many years massive multi million dollar projects went through without citizens being properly informed.

It's time we close that chapter and force the MSM to go back to their own grass roots and deliver more investigative reporting. Projects like the Wicomico County Library will only bankrupt this Country sooner than later. It is NOT necessary, it is NOT needed and the facility they are currently in will be around as a Public Library for another 50 years, DEAL WITH IT and stop playing games just so the City of Salisbury can relocate. Start buying up buildings on the Downtown Plaza and relocate the City there and put good money after good money!

Look at this project for its real incentive. Governor O'Malley will soon deliver a message stating he's cutting the budget by another $240,000,000.00. This means you're going to get pounded with more taxes and City & County Agencies are short another $240,000,000.00, let alone what he already cut this year. So Wicomico County and the City of Salisbury can't get a dime to relocate. However, IF they make this move with the Library they can get the money from the Feds and an empty building will become available for FREE. Wouldn't it be nice if our representatives simply told it like it really is. Instead, its rob Peter to pay Paul.

Salisbury Fire Department Wants More Fire Protection Downtown

After taxpayers became subjected to at least $14,000,000.00 in new debt by relocating from Downtown Salisbury, now they want the property owners to install sprinkler systems in their buildings, according to a task force.

The task force wants annual fire and building inspections along with checks every time a new tenant moves into a building. Does the task force have any clue just how busy the Salisbury Fire Department is right now? They don't have the manpower to fulfill such a request.

More bureaucracy and larger government once again in the City of Salisbury. While I agree with inspections, forcing property owners to install sprinklers, (especially in older buildings) is not only extremely expensive, in these economic times I'd say it would be just about impossible for most.

I can understand "new construction" as being a part of code but someone has to draw the line as to just how far these suggestions can go. I know, let's put sprinkler systems in the Zoo too, so we can make sure everyone is safe in their perfect world.

If Firefighters are so afraid of fighting fires, why did the City spend another $5,000,000.00 in new equipment to fight fires? Chief See tried passing this several years ago for residential properties and it was slapped down instantly. It was sad to see because I firmly believe residential sprinklers are essential in new home construction and is mandated in most Counties. The former Mayor Barrie Tilghman wanted nothing to do with it, so it died instantly.

Quit wasting every one's time and start with new construction. Reopen the old Fire Station Downtown and save the property owners millions of dollars. Taxes go up in double digits, you remove our Fire Station/protection from Downtown, if you want more fire protection simply open up the old Station again.

By the way Mr. Ireton, we didn't like having Health Care shoved down our throats, what makes you think we're going to accept bigger government shoving expensive sprinkler systems down our throats as well. We don't live in a "prefect world" so stop trying to play God because you conveniently think it's your duty as a Democrat.

By the way, we have Insurance, God Forbid something horrible like a fire breaks out.

Increase In Women Who Drink And Drive

WASHINGTON

The number of women arrested for drunken driving has jumped nearly 30 percent in the past decade, a dangerous trend that was all too evident when a wrong-way crash involving a woman in New York killed eight people.

The Transportation Department said the number of women arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs increased 28.8 percent between 1998 and 2007. The number of men arrested under the influence fell 7.5 percent during the same period.

"If you're over the limit, you're under arrest. This is a matter of life and death," said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

Tennessee Cops Shoot 59 Rounds To Kill One Man

Civil rights leaders worried race played a role in death of suicidal neighbor

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Alonzo Heyward carried a rifle around his low-rent Chattanooga neighborhood one day last month, ranting about suicide and ignoring the pleas of friends for hours before six city police officers surrounded him on his front porch and decided it had to end.

His father says Heyward told the officers, "I'm not out here to hurt anybody."

But police, who tried unsuccessfully to disarm Heyward, fired 59 rounds to kill him on July 18. The medical examiner found 43 bullet wounds in his chest, face, arms, hands, legs, buttocks and groin. Police contend Heyward was a danger to others and threatened the six officers.

Fatal Crash On Us Rt. 9

DSP News Release: August 19th, 2009

Location: US 9 .75 miles east of SR 5, just east of Harbeson

Date of Occurrence: August 19th, 2009

Resume: Harbeson- On Wednesday August 19th, 2009 at 9:27 AM, State Police responded to a fatal injury crash on US Route 9, just east of SR 5. The crash involved a trash truck and a passenger vehicle.

The crash occurred when an Oldsmobile, traveling eastbound on US 9, exited the roadway for an unknown reason and collided into the trash truck on the shoulder of the roadway.

A 2007 10-wheel Blue Hen trash truck was stationary on the eastbound shoulder of US 9. The operator of the trash truck, Matthew Cooper, 42, of Millsboro, was in the driver’s seat of the stopped truck and operating the truck’s mechanical arm. While Cooper was emptying a trash container with the mechanical arm, the Oldsmobile Cutlass collided into the rear of the trash truck.

Both the operator and the front seat passenger of the Oldsmobile died upon impact. They were the only two occupants of the vehicle and they were both seatbelted. The male operator was 47-years of age and his male passenger was 52-years of age. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been notified.

The Bank of Delmarva was just robbed in the branch on Eastern Shore Drive in Salisbury. An unknown amount of cash was taken.

Obama Health Plan: Rationing, Higher Taxes, And Lower Quality Care

President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats are rushing to enact legislation that would overhaul the way health care is financed and delivered in the United States. It would dramatically increase the role of government in virtually all aspects of health care. Such an initiative should be carefully studied to determine whether it actually solves problems in the health care arena or makes them worse.

National health plans similar to what President Obama is proposing have been adopted in other countries. They always start out promising universal access and free or reduced-price health care. But they end up with massive institutional bureaucracies whose purpose and function are to deny health care and medical services. Often they fail to control spending despite resorting to withholding care to politically weak groups.

President Obama insists that his plan to fundamentally restructure health care is needed to reduce costs. He has touted a report from his Council of Economic Advisors that specifies exactly how that would be done. That report, however, elaborates a policy of thorough government health care rationing achieved through government control of the financing and delivery of care.

This study will explain how the health policy changes President Obama and Congressional Democrats support would cause millions of Americans to lose their choice of doctors and insurance coverage, require that access to care be strictly rationed, and cause the quality of care to deteriorate. Despite all this sacrifice, nationalizing health insurance in America would require major tax increases, slow economic growth, and increase the national debt.

Study: Pet, Wildlife Source Of Waterway Bacteria

Maryland environmental officials say a new study finds pets and wildlife are a significant source of waterway bacteria.

The Department of the Environment says researchers found waste from dogs and wildlife such as fox and deer accounted for about two-thirds of the bacteria in the watersheds of the Furnace Creek and Marley Creek, two Glen Burnie-area waterways where bacteria levels are above state standards. State officials said Tuesday that the findings suggest that failing to clean up after pets can affect water quality significantly.

Researchers studied eight Anne Arundel County watersheds and found the major contributor to bacteria was wildlife, followed by pets, humans, and livestock.

‘60 Minutes’ Creator Don Hewitt Has Died

Pioneering newsman, 86, also produced 1960 JFK-Nixon debate

Don Hewitt, the CBS Newsman who invented “60 Minutes” and produced the popular newsmagazine for 36 years, died Wednesday. He was 86.

He died of pancreatic cancer at his Bridgehampton home, CBS said. His death came month after that of fellow CBS legend Walter Cronkite.

Hewitt joined CBS News in television’s infancy in 1948, and produced the first televised presidential debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in 1960.

Suspect: Dominic R. Russell, 24, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 17 August 2009 at 5:17 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate an altercation that had occurred inside a residence in the 700 block of N. Westover Drive. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female victim who stated that she was sitting on a sofa inside a friend’s residence when her ex-boyfriend, Dominic Russell, entered the residence and demanded the $20 that the victim allegedly owed Russell. When the victim informed Russell that she did not owe him any money, he pulled her off the coach, threw her on the floor and walked out the front door with the victim’s purse.

Another deputy in the area located Russell who was riding away from the area on a bicycle. That deputy located the victim’s purse in Russell’s possession. Russell was placed under arrest and subsequently transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Russell was detained by the Commissioner in the Detention Center in lieu of $15,000.00 bond.

Suspect: Paul Gomez, 36, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 9 August 2009 at 7:54 AM a deputy on patrol stopped to investigate an unattended vehicle left at the dead end of forest Plains Lane in Salisbury. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the deputy observed what he recognized as marijuana in a baggie laying in plain view inside the vehicle. The deputy was able to seize the marijuana and managed to locate the vehicle’s operator, Paul Gomez, at a nearby address. Upon interviewing Gomez, he admitted to leaving the baggie inside the vehicle.

The investigating deputy obtained a warrant for the arrest of Gomez and it was served on 16 August 2009. After an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner, Gomez was released on Personal recognizance.

Suspect: Lisa Diane Caroll, 34, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 30 July 2009 at 8; 25 PM, a deputy from the WCSO began an investigation into the theft and forgery of a commercial check. On that date, a local business owner discovered a blank check from a business account had been removed from the business’ checkbook and cashed in the amount of $800.00 at a bank in Salisbury. The victim informed the investigating deputy that the bank identified the payee on the check as Lisa Diane Caroll of Salisbury. The victim, who was familiar with Caroll, then viewed the surveillance video at the bank and confirmed that the person who cashed the check was indeed Caroll. The victim further advised that on 30 July 2009, Caroll was at his place of business, but that Caroll was neither given the check nor authorized to cash it. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Caroll had forged the victim’s signature on the check.

Caroll was arrested on a warrant on 11 August and transported to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Caroll was detained in the Detention Center by the Commissioner in lieu of $10,000.00 bond.

In George Orwell's allegorical novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the picture of "Big Brother" appears constantly in the adoring media.
Perceived enemies are everywhere — supposedly plotting to undo the benevolent egalitarianism of Big Brother. Citizens assemble each morning to scream hatred for two minutes at pictures of the supposed public traitor Emmanuel Goldstein. The "Ministry of Truth" swears that the former official Goldstein is responsible for everything that goes wrong in Oceania.

In Orwell's Oceania, there is a compliant media that offers "Newspeak" — recycled government bulletins from the Ministry of Truth. "Doublethink" means you can believe at the same time in two opposite beliefs.

America is not Oceania, but some of this is beginning to sound a little too familiar.

We see Barack Obama's smile broadcast 24/7, in a fashion we have not seen previously of earlier presidents. A Newsweek editor referred to Obama as a "god." MSNBC's Chris Matthews claimed physical ecstasy when Obama speaks. A Washington Post reporter swooned over Obama's "chiseled pectorals."

Health Care Reform Dead? Think Again

It's a lock that Congress will pass it; the real issue is the shape it will take

From all the attention focused on the rambunctious town hall meetings, ranting about “death panels” and repetitive shrieking against government health care on right-wing radio, one might think health reform is pretty much dead in America. Think again.

Health reform is a lock to pass. The only issue is in what form. You need to look past the noise, fear-mongering, misquotes, inconsistent claims, inaccurate assertions and political gamesmanship and pay attention to what is truly at issue as Congress gets down to the business of reform in the fall.

Why am I so certain reform will happen? Well, August is media silly season. Anything that can get you to look up from your beach or lake reading to watch TV tops the news. That is why creepy Michael Jackson, animal abuser Michael Vick and a few thousand angry old white guys, some packing heat, all yelling at Congressmen, dominate the airwaves. Summer will soon be over, though, and that signals a return to a very different world of politics and media coverage.

UBS To Divulge More Than 4,000 Account Names

Swiss banking giant, U.S. announce deal on the secret accounts

GENEVA - IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said Wednesday Swiss banking giant UBS will give his agency the details of 4,450 client accounts suspected of holding undeclared assets.

The deal to end a contentious international lawsuit between U.S. tax collectors and Swiss bankers was announced Wednesday morning.

Shulman said in prepared remarks that the deal will give the IRS thousands of long-sought account names and is expected to provide even more UBS clients who voluntarily disclose their financial details to the agency. UBS has an estimated 52,000 accounts of U.S. customers. Shulman said the 4,450 accounts were the ones most suspected of containing undeclared assets.

Barney Frank Goes Toe To Toe At Health Care Town Hall

(CNN) -- Most Congress members conducting town hall meetings this month have chosen a noncombative posture to deal with angry participants who disrupt the proceedings. Not Rep. Barney Frank.

At a lively two-hour meeting Tuesday night in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Frank gave as good as he got in confronting opponents of overhauling the nation's health care system.

The crowded hall had both supporters and detractors, but the opposing side was much louder and more raucous, booing the Massachusetts Democrat from the moment he was introduced and shouting questions and challenges at him throughout.

"You want me to talk about it or do you want to yell?" he asked over and over when interrupted while trying to answer. Continued shouting brought a sterner rebuke.

"Disruption never helps your cause," he said more than once. "It just looks like you're afraid to have rational discussion."

Body In Suitcase Identified As Swimsuit Model

28-year-old Jasmine Fiore disappeared over the weekend in San Diego

BUENA PARK, California - A body that was found stuffed in a suitcase and thrown in an Orange County trash bin has been identified as that of a 28-year-old former swimsuit model who disappeared over the weekend.

Police said Tuesday that Jasmine Fiore had been strangled.

Lt. Gary Worrall says police want to speak with Ryan Alexander Jenkins, of Alberta, Canada, who reported her missing Saturday night after he reportedly took her to a poker party in San Diego the night before.

Taxpayer money is invested in a corporation. This gives government the right to set compensation for the executives of that corporation. If the corporation is a publicly traded company, that did not accept taxpayer money, the stockholders have no voice in compensation. Congress who has proven incapable of running anything efficiently much less profitably is behind this madness.

Now consider major league baseball and the National football league. Congress exempts these from monopoly laws. Many stadiums, if not all, are built with taxpayer money. Athletes are paid whatever they can negotiate. Brett Favre just signed for $12 million for the year. Congress is bent out of shape over the new AIG ceo getting $7 million.

A ball player who hits for a 300 average can make $20 million a year, a company ceo must be right all the time to earn $7 million and a congressman who is never right, is paid $175,000 a year. If the ballplayer has a bad year he might be traded or his contract will not be renewed. The ceo that fails is soon fired. For some strange reason the incompetent congressman gets re-elected.

Bill McCain – The Most Arrogant Member of the Wicomico County Council

Wicomico County councilman Bill McCain (D-At Large) must be the most arrogant elected official in Wicomico County, perhaps the whole Delmarva Peninsula.  It’s obvious that he answers to his special interest pals, not the people who elected him.

For the last several council meetings, members of the local chapter of Americans for Prosperity have been showing up at council meetings and asking that the Wicomico County Council begin holding at least half of their meetings in the evening.  While only a few of us actually went to the podium to comment, as many as 15 – 20 AFP members would show up at a meeting to show their support for evening meetings.  The idea behind this is simple.  Most taxpayers work during the day.  In order to give these citizens an opportunity to see their government in action, evening meetings would be necessary.

Admittedly, this is an issue dear to my heart.  I’ve been advocating for this since the current council took office in 2006.  Councilman Joe Holloway (R-5) has been leading the charge on this attempt to bring county government closer to the people.

Some council members don’t want to hold evening meetings for various reasons.  Councilman Dave MacLeod (D-4) argues that evening meetings would prevent seniors from attending.  While I don’t agree with his argument, I also don’t doubt that MacLeod is sincere.  Other members argue that they have experimented with evening meetings in the past and that attendance did not increase.

I understand this argument.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold much water.  If council would commit to holding all (or half) of their meetings for a period of time (I have suggested one year), then we could really find out if attendance would increase.  Holding an evening meeting every once in a while certainly won’t tell us anything.

Back to Bill McCain …

While I may disagree with other council members who argue against evening meetings, it is McCain who shows utter contempt for the voters of Wicomico County.  He is interested in keeping his real estate and developer clients happy while also courting favor with the local enviros (admittedly, no easy feat).  Making sure that the Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) gets to waste plenty of money is number one on McCain’s list of priorities.  McCain doesn’t want average citizens to see how he votes and behaves on the council.  He can’t do his job for his REAL constituents – WET, CBF, developers, and the teachers’ union – if too many voters are watching him do it.

Therefore, when average citizens ask for a simple change in meeting time to accommodate the hard working taxpayers of Wicomico County, here is what McCain has to say:

"One person comes up here and wants a change and we're supposed to change what we've been doing for years?" McCain said.

First of all Bill, more than one person came to a council meeting and asked.  Sure, I’ve asked (off and on) for almost three years.  However, Julie Brewington, Joe Collins, Sally Rogers (and possibly others) have also gotten up before council and asked.  Besides those that actually spoke before council, many others came to show their support for the concept.

Show Bill McCain that there is more than “one person” who believes that our county government should be more responsive to its citizens.

Kratovil Tours Health Facilities

Rep. Kratovil Tours Health Facilities to get First Hand View of Patients, Practitioners, and Community Needs

Washington, DC – After holding 12 public events where he was able to speak directly with constituents about their concerns regarding pending health care reform legislation in the House of Representatives as well as share many of his own concerns, Rep. Kratovil spent the early part of this week touring various health care facilities throughout the First District to get a firsthand view of the needs of patients, practitioners and the communities they serve.

“The debate over healthcare reform in this country will affect all of our families. This is why I am taking this August recess to listen to citizens throughout the district, hear their concerns, and share with them my thoughts and concerns,” said Rep. Kratovil. “I also wanted to make sure I got firsthand accounts from the people on the front line of health care in this country. Doctors, nurses, and pharmacists understand best how to administer care and what the barriers are to more effective health care services. I was able to take this opportunity to listen to those on both the patient side and on the practitioner side to better understand the state of health care in Maryland’s First Congressional District.”

On Monday August 18th Rep. Kratovil attended the groundbreaking for the new Queen Anne’s County Emergency Center, telling the crowd, “Often times rural areas like those here on the Eastern Shore are overlooked when it comes to funding and services. While this may have been the case in the past; I suggest that we use today’s event to re-dedicate ourselves to the constant fight for parity and equality between urban, suburban and rural neighborhoods despite income and population but instead based on essential needs and services.” From there Rep. Kratovil went on to meet with ER Doctors, pharmacists and social workers at Easton Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD.

On Tuesday August 19th Rep. Kratovil met with representatives from Western Shore Medical facilities, the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD and Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. The concerns of those who attended these roundtables were different than other areas of the district but still focused on delivering better healthcare to a growing community. “On the Eastern Shore families are dealing with doctor shortages, while on the Western Shore a growing population related to BRAC is requiring that the health care community expand to provide essential services,” said Rep. Kratovil. “It is a prime example of how any reform to the health care system cannot be homogenous. Even in communities separated by only the Chesapeake Bay, unique concerns call for unique solutions. That’s why we need to take the time to get health reform right, because this issue is too complex to be solved with empty rhetoric or cookie-cutter solutions.”

Kratovil then traveled to Cecil County to meet with patients and the medical leadership at Perry Point Veterans Administration Medical Center in Perry Point, MD. Here Rep. Kratovil, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, discussed the unique medical needs of our veteran population. “Honoring our commitment to our America’s Veterans means providing first class medical care not only when they return home but for as long as they need the services of the Nation they helped defend,” said Rep. Kratovil. “In Congress I have been urging my colleagues to commit to focusing on both the mental and physical well-being of the Nation’s active military, as well as veterans, and to support the policies, resources, and funding necessary to successfully combat the mental and physical healthcare challenges that they may confront. Given protracted deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan the VA will be dealing with a new generation of patients with unique needs, and in order to serve them properly the VA must be properly prepared and well funded.” Later on Tuesday evening Rep. Kratovil will also attend the ribbon cutting for the new American Legion in Easton, MD, again re-affirming his commitment to local veterans.

In addition to touring these facilities, Rep. Kratovil also attended town council meetings in Templeville and Chestertown, MD.

The Democrats Were Right

As much as it pains me to say this, I have to admit it - my Democrat friends were right.

They told me if I voted for McCain, the nation’s hope would deteriorate, and sure enough there has been a 20 point drop in the Consumer Confidence Index since the election, reaching a lower point than any time during the Bush administration.

They told me if I voted for McCain, the US would become more deeply embroiled in the Middle East and now tens of thousands of additional troops are scheduled to be deployed into Afghanistan .

My Democrat Party friends told me if I voted for McCain that the economy would get worse and sure enough unemployment is at 9.4% and the new stimulus packages implemented recently have sent the stock market lower than at any time since the Islamic Terrorists attacks of 9-11.

They told me if I voted for McCain that we would see more “crooks” in high ranking positions in Federal government and sure enough, several recent cabinet nominees and Senate appointments revealed resumes of scandal, bribery and tax fraud.

They told me if I voted for McCain, we would see more “Pork at the trough” in Federal government and sure enough, 17,500 “Pork Bills” showed up in Congress since January 2009.

I was also told by my Democrat friends that if I voted for McCain, we would see more deficit spending in Washington D.C., and sure enoug h, Obama20has spent more in just 30 days than all other Presidents together - in the entire history of the good ole USA!!

Well, I voted for McCain in November and my Democrat friends were right… all of their predictions have come true!

German Government: 1 Million Electric Cars By 2020

Chancellor Angela Merkel's Cabinet aims Wednesday to finalize a plan that envisions one million electric cars zipping along the nation's famed autobahns by 2020.

The plan calls for "financial incentives" starting in 2012 to support the sale of electric cars. Specifics on the finances are to be discussed in the next legislature period in the fall.

"The program is aimed at having a positive impact on investment decisions, give producers security and support the sale of electric cars," according to a copy of the plan, obtained by The Associated Press.

Germany's car companies have scrambled to catch up to their Asian competitors in electric technology.

Volkswagen AG has said it hopes to introduce its first electric cars on the market in 2013, while Daimler AG is working together with California-based electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. on developing better battery and electric drive systems for vehicles destined for the consumer market.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my mail. Being as busy as I know you are ducking unhappy voters I appreciated your effort.

After reading your very comprehensive and lengthy letter I would like to state that I too am for Mom and Apple Pie.. However, since the high cost of health care is the key issue, I am disappointed that I did not read anything in your letter about something being done about:

1. TORT REFORM, a major contributor to our health care costs.

2. Building about 50 medical schools. Our shortage of doctors is endemic and will get worse with the retirement of the "baby boomers".

3. Incentives for young people to attend Medical Schools. Scholarships and grants that can be forgiven after five years of public community work, like providing geriatric care.

4. Curbing the cost of pharmaceuticals, a major cost in health care.. The Federal Government would subsidize research with tax breaks/write offs, if the market price is reduced when the medication is released.

5. Building more, hi-tech hospitals and clinics, for MRI, CAT Scan and a host of hi-tech procedures, we need more of these as well.

6. Prevention: our indolent life style and junk foods contribute to our failing health and the cost of maintaining it..Reductions in premiums for those that practice a healthy life style, like reduced insurance rates for non-smokers. This will allow those with un-healthy lifestyles to bear their fair share and who knows, they may change and live better, longer..

Federal money, my tax dollars, for the new schools, hospitals, clinics and scholarships to be funneled through and administered by the states. This would help keep Government's big hands out of the mix.

My issue, and I say this with all due respect, with you and your buddies in Washington is that you spend more time looking at the hole and ignore the doughnut.

We are not against spending but we are against "DUMB SPENDING" and are bound and determined to elect Officials that are prudent with our tax dollars and more interested in serving the people rather than being served by the people.

So in closing, you can heed these words of advice or your replacement can.

Guardrail Upgrades Will Require Nighttime Lane Closures on Route 1

Bear -- The Department of Transportation announces nighttime lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound between Route 40 & School Bell Road for the removal and replacement of guardrails.

Intermittent lane closures will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on Monday, August 24 and ending on Friday, September 4, weather permitting.

Motorists should drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.

Adult Soccer League To Begin In Wicomico County

Informational Meeting August 26; League Begins in September

(Salisbury, MD) The Wicomico County Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism will host an adult soccer league informational meeting on Wednesday night, August 26, from 6:30-7:30 pm in the upstairs conference room at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

The adult soccer league is a new program this fall and will include players ages 18 & older. Games will be played under the lights at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex on Thursday nights beginning in mid-September. The league will consist of 8 regular season games and will also include league playoffs.

The Socialists Within Want To Take Over

Shall we allow them? The United States is close to be taken over from within by Barack Hussein Obama, a development similar to those in Germany at the beginning of the 1930s.

I grew up under the Nazis, and what I saw then there I see now here. There is nothing theoretical when I speak about what happens when a nation throws God out of government and society and when Christians become religious bystanders. I am not part of those who want some people to look bad by calling them Nazis, as Nancy Pelosi and so many people do nowadays. My writing is based on my own experience and that of my family. We were there.

The White House launched what could be called a "snitch" program by asking Americans to forward to a White House e-mail address anything regarding health care reform that they consider "fishy." This should help the government, explains the White House director of new media, Macon Phillips, to uncover the truth about the president's position and find the "disinformation" about health care "reform." The "snitch" program is opening the door to Gestapo methods.

When I was a child, Gestapo agents took positions in front of our church and wrote down the names of those who entered. It was intimidation, and everybody knew what it meant to be of different opinion than the Nazi government. My parents entered the church nevertheless, along with us four children. My father, a civil servant, in spite of being sacked when the Nazis came to power, did not compromise. For my parents, the greatest preoccupation in those years was the integrity of us children whom they didn't want to be infected by Nazi philosophy. The Gestapo had their informants everywhere, and they liked to discover through innocent children what their parents were up to. It was forbidden by law to listen to foreign radios and could lead to death penalty if found out. My father used to listen at 10 p.m. to the Swiss station Beromünster so we children wouldn't notice.

A Worth While Fundraiser For Breast Cancer

In October this year, myself and two other baristas from Eastern Shore Starbucks are going to be walking in the Breast Cancer 3-Day in Washington DC. Over the course of three days we will be walking 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer research. In order to do so, we each have to raise $2,300.00

There's no excuse for this, and I want to do all I can to make sure no one else loses their loved ones to breast cancer.

Woman, 63, Missing For 5 Days Found On Raft

Survives with only two cans of Mountain Dew and a bottle of water

IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 63-year-old woman trapped on a small raft caught in tangled river brush could hear passing cars and people talking but wasn't discovered until a fisherman on his way to his favorite hole spotted her five days later, the woman's son said Tuesday.

Jeanne Schnepp's odyssey began last week with a fishing trip on a tiny inflatable raft along the Wapsipinicon River. But when the Iowa woman found herself on raging waters that nearly flooded the banks, she partially deflated the raft and headed for the side.

Water masked the brush, which caught the raft and held it — and Schnepp — for five days before rescuers pulled her from the river Monday afternoon.
