Ron Paul: DC Influence To Blame For Ken Cuccinelli Loss

Government bureaucrats strongly inclined to vote for Democrats sunk Republican candidate Ken Cuccinelli’s bid for Virginia governor, especially those staffing the military-industrial complex, said former Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul on Wednesday.

Paul, a 2012 candidate for the Republican nomination, supported Cuccinelli in his bid for the Virginia governor’s seat against the winner, Democratic Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe. Paul blamed government workers that reside in the D.C. suburbs of northern Virginia for Cuccinelli’s loss.

“You know, a couple weeks ago Ken was way behind and nearly caught up,” Paul said on Wednesday’s “Your World” on the Fox News Channel. “So, I would say it was still an issue. But I think government workers was a bigger issue. I think it was sort of like throwing in D.C. people into the race because of northern Virginia. So, that’s a completely different story.”

State And Local Governments Cutting Work Hours Due To Obamacare

It’s no longer just restaurants and stores cutting hours and employees due to Obamacare—state and local governments are making changes as well.

The law defines a “full-time” employee as one working more than 30 hours per week, and employers with more than 50 full-time employees must provide government-approved health insurance or pay a penalty. Even though the employer mandate has been delayed for a year, the stories keep rolling in of businesses that have already acted.

Jed Graham of Investor’s Business Daily has compiled a list of 363 employers who have cut back employees’ hours due to incentives created by Obamacare’s employer mandate.

Here are a few state and local governments taking action because of Obamacare:
Indiana’s state government cut hours for part-time and temporary employees from a maximum of 37.5 hours per week to fewer than 30.

Georgia’s Fulton County is cutting a number of employees to fewer than 30 hours per week.

Delaware’s state government is cutting hourly and seasonal employees to a maximum of 29.75 hours per week.

Alabama’s Huston County is cutting hours of part-time employees to fewer than 30 per week.

Today we honor the nation's 22 million veterans. But what about the hundreds of thousands of vets that were discharged? A New York Times Op-Ed reveals that administrative discharges for minor misconduct, along with dishonorable discharges make veterans ineligible for the health care, employment, housing and education benefits offered by the Veterans Affairs Department. Many times these offenses are the result of war-time stress. Some think that Congress and our communities need to give more support to this disadvantaged group and not let those that served fall between the cracks.

An Anonymous Instagram Account Is Ratting Out Witnesses Of Violent Crime In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — City police were trying to find out who is behind an anonymous social media site that has been identifying witnesses in violent crimes across Philadelphia with the stated intention of trying to "expose rats."
The "rats215" account on the photo-sharing site Instagram has posted pictures, police statements and testimony identifying more than 30 witnesses since February, The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1abk873 ) reported.

Amazon Partners With USPS To Deliver On Sundays

Amazon.com announced its partnership with the U.S. Postal Service to deliver orders on Sundays, USA Today reports. Amazon is the world's largest internet retailer. The new Amazon service started yesterday in Los Angeles and New York metropolitan areas and plans to expand in 2014. The company hopes that adding a Sunday delivery option will generate more sales. The deal is a well-received new source of revenue for the Postal Service.

How Obamacare Will Change Employer-Provided Insurance

Millions of Americans are being informed they're being dropped from their insurance plans because the plans don't meet minimum Obamacare standards, but President Obama so far has stood by his promise that "if you have insurance that you like, then you will be able to keep that insurance."

Insurance plans that existed on the individual market before the passage of the Affordable Care Act were "grandfathered" in, the president and his supporters have argued, and consumers only lost coverage if insurers altered those policies after the law took effect. In that case, Mr. Obama said last week, insurers had to "replace them with quality, comprehensive coverage."

More Than 750 Dolphins Killed By Virus

WASHINGTON - An outbreak of a measles-like virus is killing off a record number of dolphins on the east coast.

It's the deadliest outbreak of morbillivirus ever recorded. At least 753 bottlenose dolphins have washed up on beaches from New York to Florida since the beginning of July. The last major outbreak in the 1980s continued for about nine months. This time around, with just four months into the current epidemic, NOAA officials say the death toll is already at an all-time high - and could rise.

Since there's no vaccine that can be administered to a large dolphin population, researchers can't prevent it from spreading.

State Quietly Announces Delay Of Small Business Health Exchange

State health officials confirmed what MarylandReporter.com first reported two weeks ago — the Jan. 1 opening of the small business health insurance marketplace will be delayed.

According to a weekly report issued late last Friday by the Maryland Health Connection, the Small Business Health Options Program, known as SHOP, will not open Jan. 1 as scheduled. Instead, for the second time this year, SHOP’s opening has been pushed back, this time to April 1, 2014.

“Maryland has a well-functioning small group market which offers the same prices as those that will be offered through the small group exchange, known as the SHOP,” Exchange officials said in Friday’s report. “The Board approved a plan to open the SHOP on April 1, 2014, which will allow more time for testing and coordination over the next several months.”

Stand Your Ground Upheld In Florida Despite Efforts Of Obama’s DOJ

Florida lawmakers have repudiated the Dream Defenders and supporters of Trayvon Martin who tried to get Stand Your Ground overturned in the state.

The Florida House Subcommittee on Criminal Justice voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to not only defend the self-defense law, but expand it.

“Stand your ground is core to the American way of life,” Republican State Rep. Jimmie T. Smith said, MSNBC reports.

“I don’t support changing one damn comma of the stand your ground law,”said State Rep. Matt Gaetz in August. Gaetz oversaw Thursday’s subcommittee hearing on the law. Around 300 people attended the hearing.

The Advocate reports that the Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal's office will cancel food stamp benefits for anyone who participated in a fraud and shopping spree catalyzed by an EBT malfunction.
More than 12,000 people were sent an insufficient funds notice when the problem with the EBT cards was fixed on Oct. 12; those who transgressed may lose their EBT cards for a year.

Advocates Line Up In Defense Of Maryland Taxes

Sensing an election-year push to cut taxes in Maryland, advocates of environmental, health and social service programs are plotting to ensure that that doesn't happen.

The call by some politicians to repeal a stormwater fee, cut the corporate tax rate or otherwise deliver relief to the business community has energized advocates who spent years persuading Annapolis to raise more cash for state programs. They are determined to convince the public and lawmakers that cutting taxes in 2014 is a bad idea.

"We're calling it offense on the defense," said Halle Van der Gaag, executive director of the environmental group Blue Water Baltimore, which supports the stormwater fee derided by critics as a "rain tax."

Mikulski Calls For A Two Year Deal

Sequestration and the federal budget will be Topic One when the House and Senate resume work tomorrow. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has called for a two-year deal to replace sequestration cuts. But 2014 could be hard enough. Hundreds Run For Injured Trooper; Mom Says Trooper Will Leave Hospital

More than 750 people braved chilly windy weather and ran a 5K race Sunday morning, to raise money to help an injured state trooper and her family pay her medical bills.

The 5K for JK took place Sunday at the Maryland State Police Academy in Sykesville.

The proceeds from the race helps Trooper Jacqueline Kline who was badly injured last month, when she was struck by a car, while assisting another trooper in a traffic stop on Route 100.

SU Commemorates Veterans Day Monday, November 11

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University commemorates Veterans Day with the ceremony “Honoring All Veterans and Military for Their Service” on the front steps of Holloway Hall 3 p.m. Monday, November 11.

The event begins with the SU ROTC color guard and the singing of the national anthem by the Peninsulaires barbershop chorus. President Janet Dudley-Eshbach, Student Military and Veterans Association President Zackery Bayhan and Association Vice President Nick Engelhardt address the audience.

SU senior Conner Cooney speaks on “Still Supporting the Fight.” Dr. Clifton Griffin, dean of graduate studies and research, and advisor to the Student Military and Veterans Association, provides remarks in remembrance of Terry Allen, recently deceased former association advisor.

“We show special appreciation for those within the SU community who have served in the U.S. military or will serve in the future,” said Engelhardt. “We also are proud of the commitment shown by students enlisted in the ROTC Program, as well as the faculty and staff who lead, guide and direct them at SU.”

Cops: Black Mob Kidnaps, Rapes Teen Girls

The latest case of black-mob violence in Chicago is far from the worst. We’ll get to that one in a minute.

But when a mob of black people rushed into three Chicago-area Sports Authority stores this week and rushed out dragging entire racks of winter clothing, the local CBS affiliate dubbed that “unbelievable.”

CNN said the videos were “shocking.”

Not really: “That crime was only unbelievable or shocking to the reporters who spend all their time ignoring and denying black mob violence,” said one Chicago cop, who would rather keep his job than be identified as a source of stories on racial violence. “More organized, yes. Unbelievable? Hardly. Not to anyone who knows anything about the epic level of black-mob violence and black-on-white crime in this city.”

Maryland Prison Escapee Arrested In OKC 30 Years Later

OKLAHOMA CITY - A 62-year-old man who escaped from a Maryland prison more than 30 years ago has been arrested on Monday, November 4 in Oklahoma City.

According to police, officers were responding to the report of a fraud at a northwest Oklahoma City home, when they discovered that the caller was actually a fugitive out of Maryland.

Anthony Rackley, who used the name "Jack Watson" to hide his identity, told police that he had escaped from a Maryland prison in July 1980 and moved to Oklahoma City. He had been raising money for the Belle Isle Lions Club with another man.

Resume: Wilmington-Troopers have charged a 23 year old male graduate student in connection with an early morning alleged rape of a female student which occurred at a Goldey-Beacom College apartment early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. when the 18 year old female student met Carlos E. Bastardo-23, of whom she is an acquaintance, at his apartment in the Jay W. Miller Hall located on the campus of Goldey-Beacom College. Once inside, Bastardo began to make unwanted sexual advances toward the victim and eventually forcibly sexually assaulted her inside of the apartment. The victim was able to free herself from Bastardo and fled the apartment. She responded to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation and contacted State Police.

Carlos E. Bastardo was located on the Goldey-Beacom College campus by Troopers and taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with Rape Second Degree without Consent and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $120,000 Cash Bond.

Detectives continue to investigate this incident and in consideration of the victim, only limited information will be released.

Arrowhead Stadium, 49 Plane Flyover

At Arrowhead Stadium Sunday....As you know the budget cuts have eliminated the military flyovers at large events. Well, there's a group of guys in Kansas City who do some formation flying in their own planes and that decided they'd volunteer to pick up the slack. They invited a couple of other groups to join them and before they knew it they had 48 guys with their homemade RV airplanes signing up to join in. If they had more time, they probably would have gotten an even larger group as people kept joining and a 49th was added near the event. One additional feature of the flyover was the use of pink smoke for cancer awareness. The folks from the Guinness Book where there and are expected to confirm it as the largest formation flight ever. And to top it off the crowd later set the record for the loudest gathering at a football stadium. Hope you enjoy this short video as much as I did.

Honoring Our Veterans With A Commitment To Full Employment

Supporting Maryland’s more than 440,000 veterans, and reducing unemployment within this invaluable community, is one of our highest priorities as a state. After facing so many barriers to protect us in the U.S. and abroad, these individuals should never come home and face barriers to supporting themselves and their families.

That’s why the Veteran’s Full Employment Act is so important. It allows us to do right by our veterans and their families by making sure we remove barriers to employment here at home.

Today, I met with members of our veteran community—veterans, employers, and representatives of the agencies and organizations that support our servicemen and women–to update them on our progress implementing VFEA. Cabinet heads from across state government talked about what we’re doing to overcome barriers to employment in Maryland, for both veterans and military families. These Marylanders all have skills, experience, and training in demand by Maryland employers. By breaking down these barriers, we are not only doing right by our veterans, but we are also making our economy stronger by tapping into these skills. Every single person—and every person’s talent—is needed in order to create jobs and expand opportunity.

I also shared with the group the new Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs website, which is designed to be a streamlined source of information for veterans and their families in Maryland. This new site will allow our veterans to find all the information they need about jobs, benefits, health care, financial assistance, and every resource Maryland has to offer, in one convenient place.

While the veteran unemployment rate–in Maryland and around the country–remains slightly lower than the overall unemployment rate, we have an obligation to ensure that all of our Maryland veterans have employment opportunities when they return home from service. The Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs continues to work, in partnership with its sister agencies, toward reaching our goal to fully employ veterans in Maryland by 2015:
MDVA maintains an email distribution list of almost 15,000 residents and Veterans in Maryland and through collaborations with local employers, job openings are being shared via email with Veterans across the State;
Over the last five years, the O’Malley-Brown Administration has provided $5.1 million in funding for the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Scholarship Program to help veterans attain their educational goals and enhance their ability to gain employment;
Since FY10, through Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development, we’ve provided $775,000 in funding for the Military Personnel and Veteran-Owned Small Business No-Interest Loan Program; and,

Attempting To Flee And Elude/DUI/DWI-Salisbury

DATE & TIME: 11/11/2013 @ 0145 hours CASE NUMBER: 2013-00043816
LOCATION: Zion Road @ Rt. 13, Wicomico County Md.
INCIDENT: Attempting to flee and elude police, Reckless Endangerment, Assault, DUI/DWI, numerous traffic charges.
On the above date and time, Maryland State Police in Salisbury were notified of a black Dodge Durango that was fleeing into Wicomico County from Deputies in Dorchester County on Rt. 50 near Vienna. The vehicle was eventually stopped at the intersection of Zion Road and Rt. 13 and the driver of the vehicle, Richard Wayne Dawson, 20, of Denton Maryland was taken into custody. Two passengers in the vehicle, a 13 year old female and a 15 year old male, were released to their parents by Dorchester County Deputies. While fleeing from the police during this incident, Dawson nearly rammed a Maryland State Trooper’s vehicle at Rt. 50 and Nanticoke Road. Dawson was taken into custody by Maryland State Police and was charged with DUI/DWI, along with numerous criminal and traffic charges. Dawson will be transported to a District Court Commissioner for a hearing later this morning.

Wicomico Schools has worked closely with ParentLink to diagnose and resolve problems with the ParentLink rapid notification system, and effective today the system is fully operational again.

ParentLink is used for countywide announcements from Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen -- most commonly for changes in school status due to weather -- and for announcements from schools including attendance calls, school news, and targeted information about a particular class, grade level or field trip.

East Main Street Curb And Gutter Replacement

As part of Salisbury Public Works’ ongoing effort to keep the public informed of improvements within the City of Salisbury, please be advised that a contractor will be affecting the flow of traffic in order to replace curb and gutter along East Main Street in front of Wicomico Middle School.

The work will be performed starting Tuesday, November 12th at 7:00 PM and will be completed by Wednesday, November 13th at 5:00 AM, barring any unforeseen delays.
