Why Isn’t America Freaking Out About AT&T/DirecTV Merger — And Should We Be?
While pretty much everyone is scrutinizing the pending mega-merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, not much attention is being paid to the possible marriage of the country’s second-largest wireless and pay-TV companies. And that leaves us with two big questions: What, if anything, makes these two mergers so different? And should we be more worried about a unified AT&T and DirecTV than we are?
Their arguments for merging
For the two companies, the benefits of a union are obvious.
AT&T began life as a telephone company and in many ways, that’s where its business still lies. They do DSL, fiber, and mobile connections. Although AT&T does provide TV services to U-verse subscribers, that’s not their biggest business by a long shot.
DirecTV, on the other hand, is the second largest pay-TV provider in the country, outranked only by our old friend Comcast. But in an era when more and more cord-cutters want to keep their broadband and stream their TV, instead of channel-surfing live, the future of their business starts to look dim. The company does not provide broadband connections of their own. Instead, they partner with providers — AT&T high among them — to frankenstein together double- and triple-play bundles.

NY State Police Order Gun Shop To Turn Over Customer Info Or Face SWAT Team
Gun laws are so murky nowadays, and frequently subject to constitutional challenges, that it is a dangerous overreach by the New York Police Department to demand confidential customer records from a gun shop. The Albion Gun Shop in Albion, NY, was forced to turn over 165 customer records to the police to avoid being rushed by a SWAT Team. Allegedly, the shop was selling “bullet button” AR-15s, which the police believe violate the recently passed SAFE Act.
According to The Blaze,
An AR-15 with a “bullet button” modification makes it so the rifle’s magazine is not detachable without a special tool. Though the legality of bullet button semi-automatic rifles appears to murky under the SAFE Act’s unclear definition of a “detachable” magazine, [gun show owner Joseph] Palumbo said he was only recently informed in “vague” terms that the weapons he sold are not compliant under the law.
It is illegal to purchase or sell semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines in New York following the passage of the SAFE Act. Rifles obtained before the gun control law was passed are required to be registered with the state government. The law also limits all magazine capacity to 10 rounds, regardless of when they were made or purchased.

Obama: Ebola outbreak in West Africa is a U.S. national security priority
President Barack Obama says helping contain the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa is a U.S. national security priority. He says the U.S. military will help set up isolation units there. Troops will provide security for public health workers arriving to help. He asks Congress for another $30 million to help with expenses incurred by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The National Institutes of Health publishes research about the vaccine it's been testing on humans this month. It says tests on monkeys showed the vaccine was effective. But it wore off unless the chimps received a booster shot made from a different formula.
REBELLION! Schools Explode Against Michelle Obama
Schools around the country have had enough of Michelle Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. They are rejecting her unappetizing meals, even though it means their lunches are going underfunded.
Michelle’s admirable goal of fighting childhood obesity will, apparently, not be met in these two districts–at least not through direct federal intervention.
The report [from WND] says that the new regulations have “not only increased cafeteria costs, [but also] resulted in a drastic drop in the number of participating students.”
Forcing kids to eat tasteless food at school does not stop obesity. Parents must take action at home – including making lunches for the kids to bring to school. Michelle Obama would rather follow the Hillary Clinton method of responsibility – It Takes a Village – and have the government take care of our kids instead of parents. We all know where that Big Brother attitude leads.

U.S. warplanes attacked the Islamic State in Iraq over the weekend
Central Command officials say a mix of fighters and bombers conducted four air strikes near Haditha, site of a large hydroelectric dam. The strikes destroyed five ISIL Humvees, an armed vehicle and a checkpoint. They also damaged a bunker. The Haditha Dam is second only to the Mosul Dam in producing electricity in Iraq. A single air strike was conducted near the Mosul Dam. Since Aug. 8, Central Command has conducted 138 air strikes across Iraq.
Levin: Chamber of Commerce Run By 'Big Gov't Statist'
Talk radio host and author of “The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic,” Mark Levin slammed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over a report that they were backing Democrats in several House races on Thursday.
“Republicans need to understand, the Chamber of Commerce is run by a chameleon, Thomas Donohue is a chameleon. He supported the stimulus, he defends major parts of Obamacare, he supports massive deficit spending each and every year, he supports raising the debt limit, he supported TARP. He is a big government statist. He is a crony capitalist of the worse kind,” he argued.

Chick-Fil-A Founder S. Truett Cathy Dies at 93
Chick-fil-A founder and billionaire S. Truett Cathy rose from poverty, building a privately held restaurant chain that famously closes every Sunday but drew unwanted attention for the Cathy family's opposition to gay marriage.
Cathy died early Monday at 93.
He opened his first postwar diner in an Atlanta suburb in 1946 and by 1967 he had founded and opened his first Chick-fil-A Inc. restaurant in Atlanta. Over ensuing decades, the chain's boneless chicken sandwich he is credited with inventing would propel Chick-fil-A expansion to more than 1,800 outlets in 39 states and the nation's capital. By early 2013, the company says on its website, annual sales topped $5 billion as the chain offered up a taste of the South that went beyond chicken to such offerings as sweet tea, biscuits and gravy.

GOP lawmaker accuses DOJ of hiding former employee linked to IRS scandal
WASHINGTON – A top House Republican is demanding the Department of Justice hand over contact information on a former employee accused of having a conflict of interest in the IRS targeting scandal investigation.
In a Sept. 3 letter, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, once again asked Attorney General Eric Holder for information on Andrew Strelka’s whereabouts.
“Despite notifying [Oversight and Government Reform] Committee staff that the [Justice] Department no longer employs Mr. Strelka, the department has refused to assist the committee in speaking to Mr. Strelka directly,” Jordan wrote. “The department’s efforts to prevent the committee from learning Mr. Strelka’s whereabouts suggest the department has cause for keeping him from speaking with the committee.”

Quality Of Jobs Created In August Deteriorates Again
Back in January 2012 we noted [5] that while the market, and at the time the Fed, have been focused exclusively on the quantity of jobs created each month, a far more important aspect of the US economic recovery is the quality of newly created jobs. It took the Fed about three years to catch up but it finally did, and Yellen no longer cares so much about the headline NFP print or the unemployment number but rather how good the newly created jobs are, manifesting in the quality of wages and earnings. So what was the quality of seasonally-adjusted job gains in August? In a word: disturbing. Of the 142K jobs created, just under half came from the lowest paying jobs possible: education and health; leisure and hospitality; and temp-help. The best paying jobs, finance and information, added a whopping 4K jobs between them. Finally, about that much delayed US manufacturing renaissance: stick a fork in it - in August the number of manufacturing jobs created was exactly 0.

SOME POLICE AGENCIES NOT RACIALLY BALANCED
An Associated Press analysis of Census Bureau data and Justice Department figures about law enforcement found that Hispanics are more often underrepresented in police departments around the country than are blacks.
Some of the least racially or ethnically balanced police departments:
—Anaheim, California: More than half the community is Hispanic, yet only 23 percent of the police officers are. Theresa Smith, a member of the Anaheim Community Coalition, which aims to improve police oversight, said the city's Hispanic community has made more of an effort to improve relations than the police have, even with the appointment of a Hispanic police chief last year. Smith said not everyone in the community is inclined to call police for help. In February, Anaheim announced it will test a public safety board with nine residents who will review public safety budgets, practices and incidents such as police shootings. Police spokesman Robert Dunn said the department has been making strides in improving relationships with all the city's communities.

Harold was a bright child
By all accounts, Harold was a bright child. He grew up in America. He went to school and had a bright future ahead of him. Harold’s full life was cut short in a violent moment. While few people had ever heard of Harold before his death, many did afterwards. And in death, something shocking happened. What was so shocking, especially when it is compared to the death of someone else recently in the news? Harold is Harold Greene, Major General United States Army. On August 5th, General Greene was killed by a Taliban terrorist. He was returned to America with full military honors.
It has been a tradition that the President attends the funeral of flag officers killed in the line of duty. Richard Nixon attended the funeral of a Major General killed in Vietnam and George W. Bush attended the funeral of Lieutenant General Timothy Maude, who was killed in the 9/11 attacks.
While Major General Greene was buried, Barack Obama was golfing. The Vice President wasn't there either. Neither was the Secretary of Defense. Flags were not even lowered to half staff.
Four days after Harold Greene gave his life for America, Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri. It is safe to say, Brown was at best a thug. The media has repeatedly shown photos of Brown flashing gang signs. Some media outlets have even associated him with a specific gang. In the minutes before his death, Brown committed a robbery at a local convenience store.. According to other reports, Brown struck officer Darren Wilson and shattered his orbital bone.
Obama is sending a three-person delegation to Michael Brown’s funeral. Obama would not attend the funeral of the highest ranking military officer killed in the line of duty since 9/11, yet he will send a delegation to the funeral of a thug.
When Margaret Thatcher, one of America’s staunchest allies and Ronald Reagan’s partner in bringing down Soviet communism died, Obama sent only a small, low-level delegation to her funeral. The snub was not missed by the British.

American heroes die and Obama goes to the golf course. A thug dies and he gets a White House delegation.

Study: Net Job Growth in NC Since 2000 Went to Immigrants
The net increase in the number of employed working-age adults in North Carolina has gone entirely to legal and illegal immigrants since 2000, according to an analysis of government data conducted by the Center for Immigration Studies.
According to the limited immigration group, while the “native” working age (16-65 years old) North Carolina population has increased by 61 percent since 2000, the share of “natives” in that state’s work force has declined.
“The total number of working-age (16 to 65) immigrants (legal and illegal) holding a job in North Carolina increased by 313,000 from the first quarter of 2000 to the first quarter of 2014, while the number of working-age natives with a job declined by 32,000 over the same time,” the report reads, explaining that in the past 14 years has seen the labor-force participation of natives in North Carolina in decline.

Troopers Continue to Search for Quick Change Scam Suspect
New Castle County, DE - Troopers continue to search for a Philadelphia, PA man wanted in connection with numerous thefts using a quick change scam which have occurred at multiple retail locations throughout New Castle County, Delaware.
From November of 2013 until January of 2014, Warren Sampson, 68, committed thefts in at least nine stores in the Wilmington, Greenville, Newark, and Bear, Delaware areas. Sampson would usually purchase small items using a $100 bill. After the transaction was completed, Sampson claimed that he had received incorrect change and initiated a series of rapid money exchanges with the cashier in order to correct the cashier's purported mistake. Once Sampson left the retail establishment, the cashier would realize that Sampson had left with the merchandise, the change, and the original $100 bill.
Through further investigation, troopers were able to positively identify Warren Sampson as the suspect in the thefts and obtained arrest warrants for him charging him with numerous counts of theft.
On September 5, 2014, troopers responded to two more reported thefts from retail establishments located in north Wilmington in which the suspect used the same quick change scam and were again able to identify Warren Sampson as the suspect.
Warren Sampson is 6’05” tall and 210 lbs with a bald head and brown eyes.
If anyone has any information about Sampson's whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Troop 1 Retail Theft Unit at 302-528-4339, or by utilizing the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip Application available to download at: http://www.delaware.gov/apps/. High School Girl Taunted, Beaten At Bus Stop For Acting ‘Too Much Like A White Person’
A 16-year-old high school girl in Rock Hill, S.C. told police that another high school girl taunted her on a school bus and then beat her up after she got off the bus. The assailant allegedly was angry at the victim because she was behaving “too much like a white person.”
Both the alleged attacker and the victim are black, reports The State, a Columbia, S.C. newspaper.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on a bus carrying students who attend Northwestern High School.
The unidentified assault victim, 16, told investigators she exited the bus on McDow Drive, a winding street dotted with small ranch-style houses. Shortly after she got off the bus, she said, her attacker violently punched her a bunch of times, then fled the scene.
A Rock Hill police report notes that witnesses told the same basic story.
The police report also indicates that the student who got beat up suffered numerous injuries including a serious cut above her right eye.
An ambulance transported the girl to a local hospital for treatment.
One witness, Shelly Hemphill, is the mother of one of the victim’s friends. The victim went to Hemphill’s house after she was allegedly assaulted. Hemphill was responsible for calling the ambulance.

Maryland Troops Get Official Welcome Home
Before stepping aboard the military transport flight in Kandahar in late May, Maryland Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Luis Benitez Jr. turned around for one last glimpse of Afghanistan: mountains in the background, clear skies and a line of troops walking toward the plane, smiles all around.
"All those smiling faces — that was a nice feeling," said Benitez, a 30-year-old mechanic from Aberdeen who boarded the plane that day with more than 150 other members of the 1229th Transportation Company, wrapping up nearly a year in Afghanistan spent repairing vehicles, and moving equipment and supplies all over the country.
They carried out 55 separate operations, shuttling equipment into, out of and around the country, more than 23,000 tons of trucks and supplies constantly on the move.
There were no casualties during the 11-month deployment, said Col. Charles S. Kohler, a Maryland National Guard spokesman.

30 Million Americans On Antidepressants And 21 Other Facts About America’s Endless Pharmaceutical Nightmare
Has there ever been a nation more hooked on drugs than the United States? And I am not just talking about illegal drugs – the truth is that the number of Americans addicted to legal drugs is far greater than the number of Americans addicted to illegal drugs. As you will read about below, more than 30 million Americans are currently on antidepressants and doctors in the U.S. wrote more than 250 million prescriptions for painkillers last year. Sadly, most people got hooked on these drugs very innocently. They trusted that their doctors would never prescribe something for them that would be harmful, and they trusted that the federal government would never approve any drugs that were not safe. And once the drug companies get you hooked, they often have you for life. You see, the reality of the matter is that some of these “legal drugs” are actually some of the most addictive substances on the entire planet. And when they start raising the prices on those drugs, there isn’t much that the addicts can do about it. It is a brutally efficient business model, and the pharmaceutical industry guards their territory fiercely. Very powerful people will often do some really crazy things when there are hundreds of billions of dollars at stake. The following are 22 facts about America’s endless pharmaceutical nightmare that everyone should know…

Adult obesity rates increased in six U.S. states and fell in none last year, and in more states than ever — 20 — at least 30 percent of adults are obese, according to an analysis released on Thursday.
The conclusions were reported by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and were based on federal government data. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that obesity rates ranged from 21.3 percent in Colorado to a high of 35.1 percent in Mississippi and West Virginia.

Faith-Based Fascism: Turning Churches into the State’s Bagmen
The economic heart of fascism in the 1930's was the "government-private industry alliance."
It still is.
In this alliance, the state provides limited funds and promotion of favored businesses. The businesses provide profits that are taxed. The state's bureaucrats increase their influence over the economy by way of favored business enterprises.
The state is now heralding faith-based welfare. State money is used to favor some ministries, which conform to state requirements. In this way, the churches get "matching funds" from the state, and the state gets another avenue into the lives of the public. There will be more welfare clients, and there will be restraints on what the ministries can say and do with the money. The state extends its influence by means of confiscated money from the voters.
There are no free lunches. But church leaders forget this. They preach that grace is free to recipients, but then they preach the need for ethics: personal reform. They do not see that the state is imitating the gospel, but with confiscated funds. "Free money from the state, but then personal reform." The state is in charge of the reform program.
He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Received Over $100,000 Before Pushing Comcast Merger
Comcast has been touting the wide support it has for a proposed takeover of Time Warner Cable Inc. However, one of those politicians the cable giant says is lined up on its side, Obama operative and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, was a recipient of at least one hundred thousand dollars in campaign donations.
Comcast is the country's biggest cable and Internet service provider and Time Warner Cable is number two, but Comcast wants to gobble up Time Warner to create one gigantic, coast-to-coast cable and ISP company.
Comcast executive vice president and chief merger lobbyist David L. Cohen recently claimed that nearly 70 mayors and an additional 60 state and local officials have announced support of the merger plans, but this list also seems to correspond to big campaign donations from the cable provider's employees.
In his announcement, Cohen specifically applauds Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's support of the merger, saying that Comcast is "proud to have the support" of the Windy City mayor.
But one thing Cohen didn't note in his posting was just how much cash Comcast employees doled out over the years to Emanuel's various political campaigns.

The Party of the Past
Far from being the wave of the future, Democrats and their policies seem increasingly dated.
Liberals like to think and talk about themselves as if they were the wave of the future. Note, for example, how Barack Obama and John Kerry have denounced Islamist terrorists and Vladimir Putin for behaving as if they are still in the “19th century.”
On domestic policy, liberals see history as a story of progress from tiny government to ever-larger government — though never stating exactly how far that movement should go.
Obama came to the nation’s attention in 2004 as a new figure, young and future-oriented. His successful 2008 campaign was seen as a drive for “hope and change.” But in many ways today’s Democrats seem stuck in the past, a party whose headliners are increasingly legacy candidates.

Jobs Numbers Tank as Obama's Policies Fail
The economy created only 142,000 jobs in August, down from 212,000 in July, indicating the economy significantly slowed this summer.
Jobs creation is well below the pace needed to re-employ all the workers displaced during the financial crisis — the economy is in crisis!
Although official GDP estimates indicate the economy expanded in the second quarter at a torrid pace — 4.2. percent — much of that was inventory build, as consumer spending continued to drag along at a nonplus pace and capital investment, especially in manufacturing, remained subpar.

Waxahachie Police Officer Shoots Emu To Save Elderly Man
WAXAHACHIE (CBS 11 NEWS) - A blocks-long chase of a stray emu ended with police having to put the animal down for attacking a human. It happened last Wednesday in southeast Waxahachie when the animal suddenly appeared in a residential neighborhood. Feathers on the ground are a mute reminder of where the bird met its end in Malcolm Brigman’s yard.
“First thing I saw was that durn thing coming,” 90-year-old Malcolm Brigman told CBS 11 News. He faced German soldiers in the Ardennes in World War II—and then a very tall challenge again last Wednesday in his own yard. “It scared me, you know, when it come out,” he said of the animal.
Brigman was caught in the climax of a blocks-long chase of a stray emu. Fully grown emus can be 6-feet tall, weigh 150-pounds and run 55 miles an hour.

Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) invites the public to participate in a free, 8-session Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course.
Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) invites the public to participate in a free, 8-session Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course.
The training takes place at the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department South Station, on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. from October 8 - November 8, 2014, with Cardiopulmonary Response (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training to take place during class on October 22.
CERT is an extremely informative, hands-on, educational program packed with information to equip residents, who have no prior emergency medical training, to support their families and communities during a disaster. Participants will gain the decision-making and practical skills necessary to offer immediate assistance to those in need following an emergency until further help can arrive.
"CERT helps you prepare yourself, your family, your community to face a wide variety of emergencies," WCES Emergency Planner Tom Kane said. "CERT just makes you safer."
"CERT helps you prepare yourself, your family, your community to face a wide variety of emergencies," WCES Emergency Planner Tom Kane said. "CERT just makes you safer."
Participants will learn basic lifesaving skills, such as CPR/AED, First Aid and fire suppression. They will also learn to recognize both natural and manmade hazards. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to create disaster plans and supply kits and aid in responding to hazardous material emergencies.
Those who successfully complete the training will receive CPR and First Aid certification thorough the American Heart Association.
During the course, instructors will provide information on hazards typical to Worcester County, hazardous materials in the home and the National Incident Management System. Instruction is geared to help residents better prepare and survive during the first 36 to 72 hours after a catastrophic event when local first responder resources are stretched to their limits.
CERT is made possible through a grant from Atlantic General Hospital, thereby allowing WCES to offer this valuable training at no cost to all interested residents.
**Space is limited to 20 individuals and is available on a first come, first served basis. For more info or to register, contact Tom Kane at 410-632-3080 or tkane@co.worcester.md.us.

Woman beheaded: Details emerge of Edmonton suspect Nicholas Salvadore
Details have begun to emerge about the man who has been arrested after a great-grandmother was brutally murdered in her back garden yesterday.
Identified locally as Nicholas Salvadore, the 25-year-old is believed to be a would-be cage fighter, living only a few doors away from 82-year-old Palmira Silva’s home in Edmonton, north London.
Police arrested Salvadore, who was named by The Evening Standard, on suspicion of murder after a violent confrontation on Nightingale Street, during which a Taser was discharged and a police officer injured.
Salvadore was under armed guard in hospital today.
Detectives say they have ruled out terrorism as a motive.

COAST GUARD TOWS DISABLED BOAT APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES TO OCEAN CITY, MD.
BALTIMORE — A Coast Guard boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City assisted four boaters Saturday after their 25-foot boat became disabled approximately 50 miles east of Ocean City.
A crewmember aboard the 25-foot boat contacted the Coast Guard via VHF marine radio channel 16, stating their boat was disabled, and they were in need of assistance.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore launched a crew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat. The crew arrived on scene at approximately 4:30 a.m., where they took the four boaters aboard and placed the boat in tow. The crew made it back to Ocean City at approximately 10 a.m.
“It was a long evolution,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Scott, a crewmember aboard the MLB. “Because the crew of the disabled vessel was prepared and had a marine-band radio aboard to contact the Coast Guard directly, we were able to respond and had no issues finding them.”
The disabled boat was towed to the Ocean City Marina.
Holder's double standard on a 'Ferguson' in Utah
The Obama administration should be even-handed in its racial investigations
There are police shootings, and then there are police shootings. The Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who seem to show up at such shootings before the lawyers or the rescue squads, apparently haven’t heard about the shooting of Dillon Taylor, 20, in Salt Lake City. They’re still among the missing.
Mr. Taylor’s family and a few friends continue protests outside state and federal government offices, seeking answers to their questions about the why and how of the shooting of Mr. Taylor, who was white and unarmed, outside a convenience store by a police officer, still unidentified, and described only as “not white.”
Television news crews have yet to decamp to provide around-the-clock news coverage, even though the Taylor shooting has a lot in common with the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

Bastard Nation: America's Welfare State Comes of Age
You knew this, but it’s nice to be reminded. We get what we pay for. Conservatives 60 years ago said this would happen. It happened. It will keep happening. There is no turning back until the welfare state runs out of other people’s money.
You want an explanation for America’s growing inequality? Start here. The federal government, of course, never starts here. State and local governments never start here. Liberal media never start here. But we should.
When a society defines a family as a married couple, the following does not happen. When it defines a family as an unmarried mother, children, and a welfare check, this is the result.
It can be summarized on a bumper sticker. “They copulate. We pay.”
Yes, yes, I know: I am not politically correct. Tough.

24,639,000: Record Number of Foreign-Born Hold Jobs in U.S.
(CNSNews.com) - The number of foreign-born individuals holding jobs in the United States hit a recorded high of 24,639,000 in August, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS has been tracking the number of foreign-born workers annually since 2005 and monthly since 2007.
The BLS does not distinguish between foreign-born individuals who are in the United States legally and those who are here illegally.
“The foreign born are those who reside in the United States but who were born outside the country or one of its outlying areas to parents who were not U.S. citizens,” the BLS explains. “The foreign born include legally-admitted immigrants, refugees, temporary residents such as students and temporary workers, and undocumented immigrants. The survey data, however, do not separately identify the numbers of persons in these categories.”

Obama To Unveil Strategy To Defeat Islamic State Militants In Speech Wednesday
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will begin laying out a strategy this week to defeat Islamic State militants in the Middle East, meeting with congressional leaders Tuesday and giving a speech Wednesday, the eve of the 13th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
Obama disclosed his plans during an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"I just want the American people to understand the nature of the threat and how we're going to deal with it and to have confidence that we'll be able to deal with it," he said in the interview conducted Saturday at the White House shortly after his return from a NATO summit in Wales where the Islamic State threat was a key topic of discussion.

Jack the Ripper unmasked
How amateur sleuth used DNA breakthrough to identify Britain's most notorious criminal 126 years after string of terrible murders
It is the greatest murder mystery of all time, a puzzle that has perplexed criminologists for more than a century and spawned books, films and myriad theories ranging from the plausible to the utterly bizarre.
But now, thanks to modern forensic science, The Mail on Sunday can exclusively reveal the true identity of Jack the Ripper, the serial killer responsible for at least five grisly murders in Whitechapel in East London during the autumn of 1888.
DNA evidence has now shown beyond reasonable doubt which one of six key suspects commonly cited in connection with the Ripper’s reign of terror was the actual killer – and we reveal his identity.
A shawl found by the body of Catherine Eddowes, one of the Ripper’s victims, has been analysed and found to contain DNA from her blood as well as DNA from the killer.
The landmark discovery was made after businessman Russell Edwards, 48, bought the shawl at auction and enlisted the help of Dr Jari Louhelainen, a world-renowned expert in analysing genetic evidence from historical crime scenes.

1 Md. Casino Booming While Others Losing Revenue
WASHINGTON - There are now five casinos operating in Maryland and while some are losing money, one is booming.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency's August, 2014, revenue numbers show the Maryland Live Casino in Hanover, Maryland, brought in the most money.
The casino in Arundel Mills Mall generated more than double the revenue of Maryland's other four casinos -- combined.
It raked in $57 million in August, about a 7.4 percent increase from the same month last year.
The Hollywood Casino in Perryville and the Casino at Ocean Downs in Berlin both saw a drop in gaming revenue, down 4.25 percent and .65 percent, respectively.

Day to Serve: We’re All in this Together
2014 marks the third year in a row that the people of Maryland will join our neighbors in Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC for a Day to Serve.
From September 11th to the 28th, we’re urging Marylanders from across our state to come together and serve. When you choose to participate in Day to Serve you help feed the hungry, improve our neighborhoods, and clean up green spaces in and around our communities.
Each year since 2012 we’ve doubled our success. With the hard work of a diverse coalition of Marylanders, from faith-based groups to social and environmental organizations, more than 20,000 Marylanders volunteered to serve in 2013 — completing 60,000 hours of service at 456 events. Just last year, we planted more than 1,500 trees and cleaned up 1,500 bags of garbage during Day to Serve.
September is also Hunger Action Month, and last year, we collected over 350,000 pounds of food donations during Day to Serve. The Maryland Food Bank has enlisted the assistance of the Maryland State Police and the Department of Transportation to open more than 100 food drive drop-off locations to make donating easy.
You can also join us for Day to Serve Night at Camden Yards on September 15 as the Baltimore Orioles take on the Toronto Blue Jays to raise money for the Parks and People Foundation.

6th Annual (Save the…) BreastFest
All of the proceeds will go to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC), who assists women of the Eastern Shore. The contributions will support the mission of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) to empower our community through outreach, education and support services, in order to facilitate the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. The dedicated staff and volunteers will continue to provide education and raise awareness about early detection. DBCC provides services to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients through our Peer Mentor Program by providing one-on-one emotional support, education, and resources.
We want to raise breast cancer awareness with the main focus on the importance of breast self-exam and early detection, and show that breast cancer can affect women and men of any age. The DE Breast Cancer Coalition will have a booth at the event accepting donations, giving out informational material, and selling t-shirts, coozies, and bracelets.

Red light camera company fights to prevent citizen vote in Brooksville
BROOKSVILLE, Florida - You could call it a love triangle, except there is no love lost between the three parties fighting over red light cameras in one of Florida's smallest cities.
Florida's leading red light camera-provider American Traffic Solutions confirms to 10 Investigates Wednesday that it has joined the fight to prevent a citizen-backed referendum on red light cameras from ever reaching a ballot. The city is also fighting the referendum on grounds that it infringes upon city council's power.
However, the enemy of the city's enemy is not its friend in this case; the city is objecting to the intervention from the industry-backed group.
